By the way, does anyone know what it is that Gimli is yelling at the end there? I cannot make it out.

There's were some great lines in this great film. This might not be exactly what they said but here are a few of my favorites...

"Fool of a Took! Next time throw yourself in...then we can be rid of your stupidity."

"So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. What is there's to decide is what to do with the time they have."

 

All my favorites are already mentioned!

This movie has some great expressions as well as lines. I love the look on Legolas's face when Gimli says "and my axe!"

 

oops, Arsenal. My bad.

 

"I doubt I shall ever wear pants again. In fact, I don't mean to."

"You were meant to find the pants, Frodo. That should be an encouraging thought."

"Let's go hunt some pants."

 

"Your love for the halflings leaf has slowed your mind."

Of course, Saruman is referring to tobacco, not marijuana. But did anyone else notice that the word "pipeweed" was painfully absent from the dialogue? It was always "weed" or "leaf." There were deadheads in the aisle next to me who kept giggling at the movie because of that.

I'm not sure about the quote said by Gimil.That was the time after they defeated the troll.

 

Oh, about Lurtz's beheading... I think that was not necessarily a funny thing, but a satisfying thing. People in this country were pleased to see vengeance brought upon someone who had taken such delight in murdering a person they had grown to love. I don't think I have to explain why.

What DOES Gimli say at the end?

 

He yells "YAAAAAAH!"

It's simply a cheer.

 

I like when Bilbo is overcome with greed and tries to snatch the ring from Frodo. I forget exactly what he says, but I jumped a mile in my seat the first time I saw it.

I also liked when Gladriel was tempted by the ring, and started talking about being an evil queen. Anybody know that speech? I was in awe of her...I know she mentioned that people would despair just to look upon her.

 

"There is only one Lord of the Ring, and he does not share power." - Gandalf.

I really liked that one because I feel that it is really poignant and accurate. How true - the ring has only one owner, and all others who have it will be tormented by the evil that the ring wraughts.

"...my captain...my king." - Boromir

This is really a couplet, I feel. Aragorn goes talking about "their" people, while Boromir says "my king". I think the irony there is really present.

Perhaps the best piece of advice to anyone...

 

"If by my life or death I can protect you, I will." Aragorn

Bilbo's party speach was pretty funny. Like the "liking half of you, half as much..."

 

From the book:

"And now, at last, Frodo shall give me the ring willingly! In place of the Dark Lord he shall place a queen. And I shall not be fierful, but beutiful and terrible as the Morning and the Nigth! It may not be exactly like that, since I'm translating from my portuguese copy, but I think it's not very far off. I hope.

I also like the way Gandalf eyes the Ring on the floor and is afraid to even touch it.

 

Gandalf: "We must take the pass of Caradhras."

(Every audience I've seen the film with have gasped when the mountain is shown after Gandalf speaks these words)

 

during the opening scenes of the Battle of the last Alliance

Elrond orders his troops to fire the arrows, in some elvish toungue.

I love how his hair flew about as the arrows flew by.
