Thank you all for your support. My dad is doing great, but my sister?s been back in the hospital again. We?re not sure if she?s going to be released today or not, things are kind of up in the air.

Vision of Naboo? Maybe, maybe not? What do you think? The tricky things with visions is that you can never know exactly what they?re pointing at until the situation is staring you in the face, and even then things are normally never what they seem to be.

Since I?m in the mood for noticing weird things today, you are the third person with ?Jaina? in your user name in a row replying to a Jaina-centric chapter.

You know what the really annoying thing about visions is? Writing them. Seriously, they drive me just as crazy as they do you, and I know exactly what they are pointing at! It?s not so much a matter of going, ?Hey, this scene will pop up twenty chapters from now!? It?s a bit of an elaborate process to get it to do just the right about of taunting, to use your description. And then you start throwing in the metaphors and have to deal with the appearance of the vision? this one was quite clear to me, actually. I saw it in my head like a film and was trying to describe it as I saw it. Interestingly, what I envisioned was in the same colouring as Speilberg?s Minority Report ? I believe they overlit everything and then bleach-bypassed the negative. I attempted to get that across, but I don?t think I did the best job of that. I have a very silly imagination some times and things can be difficult to describe accurately.

Ramble, ramble, ramble?

That sounded incredibly brutal fighting-wise

Brutal, definitely? and a bit different. I wonder what it would look like on the screen. I?ve always wanted to try to orchestrate a fight scene when one of the characters was incapacitated.

The orbs are one of my creations, but their planet of origin, Lok, is not. I?d suggest revisiting, momentarily, the end of Chapter 47? it might give you some ideas. I try not to point things out deliberately, but it?s been a while as that chapter was posted back in October. Not sure how I thought of the orbs ? can?t quite remember.

Yes, the result of Jaina?s reaction to said yellow gunk is fueling Palpatine?s belief that humans are the superior race. But he might not be taking everything into account?

Thank you! I?ve always found the images of Tatooine sunsets used in the film (especially the one at the end of RotS with Owen, Beru and baby Luke) hauntingly beautiful, so that was what I was thinking of when I wrote that opening.

Very cool chapter! The vision is kinda freaky, but I'm glad Jaina got a little edge over Palps for once.

 

Just read this through, it's amazing! I can't wait to see what happens when Anakin and the others get to Jaina or God-forbid if they don't get to her before Palpatine decides he has to "do something" about her.

Palpatine?s voice echoed in Jaina?s mind, the words returning to haunt her, continually refusing to leave. The entire incident that had taken place between the Sith Lord and the Jedi had shaken her to her bones. Never before had she felt such power rush through her. The memory of it still lay within her, giving her weakened body a small amount of strength she would have otherwise lacked after being released from the force field.

She was in her cell. As always, it was dark and she was unable to see the walls around her. Jaina lay curled on one side, her left arm pressed firmly against the cold, hard floor to give her some sense of stability she could not gain with her prosthetic one. How much longer now? Her entire life had revolved around life-or-death situations ? in some ways, she had grown up with them ? but now to be waiting in the silence and the dark for someone to come along and kill her was different. Her stomach tightened. It was impossible to keep track of time in this cell. She had tried calling out to the one person who always heard her, but A?Sharad was gone. He did not answer and there were no sounds from his side of the wall. Most likely the Emperor had dealt with him too, as was the fate of all Jedi in this prison.

Without warning, the door slid open. Light burst into the tiny room and Jaina flinched, shutting her eyes from the sharp pain that struck her eyes as the brightness flooded her cell. She sat up as a shadow crossed the light?s path. It was not Krayt ? this person was shorter than him. Jaina squinted and immediately recognized the dark-haired woman who was always present whenever they were required to bring Jaina from her cell to another part of the prison. However, she was always accompanied by other guards. This time she was alone.

Jaina slowly got to her feet. ?What do you want?? she demanded, her voice hoarse.

The woman folded her arms as she leaned against the wall. ?Oh, you really are a pitiful one, aren?t you?? she said coldly. ?What a performer, always playing the brave Jedi, yet here you are, desolate and?? There was something equivalent of a sneer in her eyes. ?Lost,? she finished, smirking.

Jaina?s eyes narrowed. ?Really? So, what are you going to do then? Taunt me to death??

The woman?s expression hardened. ?No,? she answered. ?I have come out of curiosity. I am not a Jedi, I am not a Sith. The ways of the Force-sensitives are strange to me, but still they are merely beings, just like I am. And just like us [i]lesser[/i] mortals ? as you seem to view us ? there are several paths that you could have chosen to walk. From the reports you seemed like such a warrior. How does a woman of such status become what you have? It is clear that there is nothing left for you with the Jedi. There never will be. The Emperor gave you a way out. Why did you not choose it??

Jaina?s hands clenched as her eyes met the officer?s cold gaze. She felt a strange, detached laughter begin in her stomach and suddenly she found herself chuckling. The woman did not look impressed.

After a moment, Jaina was able to control her laughter. ?You?re a fool,? she said, ?the prime example of a perfect Imperial. You take the quickest route to survival with no thought for the condition of anyone else. You take orders because it means that you get to keep your life. I won?t submit to serving Palpatine forever. I refuse to. We have the power of choices. I?ll control my own life.?

The woman?s cheeks flushed red. Her expression turned steely. ?Don

 

What was Obi-Wan talking about. What about Jaina? I can't wait. Please update soon!!!

Anyway, I have to say this as I was thinking about it while reading it: in Episode II and V, Both Kenobi and Han Solo respectably, navigate a dangerous Asteroid Belt. But, what I don't get is that in the real world, we have an Asteroid Belt between Mars and Jupiter and we've sent numerous space probes through it with 0 casualities. As a matter of fact, NASA has two that are going to explore some Asteroids personally - and the distance from Earth to them is about about a light minute or so, so if danger was to confront them, it would take about 2 minutes to avert; something that Star Wars doesn't afford in George Lucas' imagination... and yours too. I don't know where I was going with that and yes: I'm a nerd.

Well, you've served quite an appatizer there, what will you have prepared for the main course?

Sorry to hear about your sis. Not 'sure' about the disjointedness, but yeah. Those were contributing factors. Yeargh, what an intense chapter! Kyp, Anakin, you'd better pull Jaina out of this fire fast!

 

Oh my my my so much excitement!! At least one baddie dead so far- now onto the escape and beating Palpy.

 

First off: I'm very sorry about your sister; I'll pray for her too. I know what it's like when a family member's health is iffy and I'm rather amazed you're still outputting chapters (but thankful!)

Now, onto the story. So Jaina's been rescued and hasn't died [yet]! If I had an ff.net account, I would've voted for the evil author option, by the way. Now our dashing group of heroes just have to successfully drag her away without the Force and with guards chasing them, meet up with Obi Wan and R2 without any way of communicating with them, find a cure for Jaina, and take out Sidious with an injured Chosen One sometime in the middle. Easy 'nuff, right?

It's probably a good thing that Ursal died when she did - I'd certainly rather die in that fashion over whatever dubious punishment the Emperor might have for failing.

And lastly: ?Oh, not good.? - Nice .

Can't wait for another update! And I do want to know if it's possible for you to end a chapter without a cliffie...

Wow, talk about evil cliffhangers.

This was an excellent chapter. It was so easy to picture the gloom and sterility of the prison. But I'm so pleased that after all this time, our intrepid Jedi have found Jaina, but just hope it's in time.

Just great! Leave us hanging.... again, why don't you? Great chapter though! I love you built up the suspense. Now, what did Obi-Wan find and how does it affect Jaina? And why do I get the feeling that it will be Jaina who saves them all? Hmmm... I guess I'll just have to wait until the next chapter to find out.

Darth Sem the astriod belt in our solar system wouldn't make a planet the size of Mars. The Hoth astroid Field on the other hand could be made into two good sized planets.

I WAS ABLE TO NEGOTIATE TERMS THAT RELEASED THAT INFORMATION. THE PRISON SECURITY SYSTEM IS ABOUT TO ASK FOR ACCESS CODES. I CAN PROVIDE THEM FOR YOU. ONCE YOU ARE THROUGH, THEY WILL INSTRUCT YOU TO LAND AT A SPECIFIC DOCKING BAY. YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO IDENTIFY YOURSELVES, SOMETHING WHICH SHOULD NOT BE DIFFICULT FOR JEDI. YOU WILL THEN NEED TO PASS THROUGH A DOOR WHICH REQUIRES ANOTHER SET OF CODES THAT IS PROGRAMMED INTO PERSONNEL IDENTICARDS. STEAL ONE.
