Yeah, there's making something that attracts the idiots of the masses, which apparenlty is very easy to do. Just put some rythmic bass beats in it, make sure you can grind to it, and you're in the big. I mean, think about it, "songs" are coming out now that talk about who's milk shake is better than who's, and girls crawling on the floor as sweat drips down some dudes testicles. It's digusting. The only rap I respect, or even listen to at all, is from the early and mid 90's. In my opinion, ever since cash money hit the scene, hip hop sunk into all suckiness.

ha! isn't that the truth, what I hate the most is those little stupid suburban white middle schoolers that are always telling me to shizzle my nizzle....it pisses me off greatly.

It's too true. The most "ghetto" people I see are from the friggin suburbs. I live in the inner city and am surrounded by ghetto, I despize going into the burbs and seeing all these pathetic white boys who think they're the sh*# cause they're dressed all ghetto and what-not. I'd love to just pick up a dozen of those punks, drop 'em in the city and just say "live", they'd be dead or running home to mommy within the week. It's totally what Malibu's Most Wanted was like in the first half hour. Hell, I'm a white boy living in the city with a somewhat decent car, and I got mugged in the burbs. Irony for ya huh?

Rap? Is that crap still around? I thought surely it had gone the way of polyester leisure suits, pet rocks, and Michael Jackson.

    All the songs are about:

Maybe you should stop judging the entire genre based on the crap played on MTV and the radio.

I also have never understood the difference between rap and hip-hop.

And somehow I don't think the actual rappers should be given credit for their mega million success. Now back in the day of Run-DMC, NWA, and the other "originals", yes. But not today or within the last 5 years. It's all formulaic. If you're doing what the record industry thinks will sell 10 million records, then they sign you. If you're not, then they don't. I give the credit to the the suits at the mega labels and the dumb *** suburban kids spending their parents money to buy the CD's.

But the total irony of it all is the same record label suits are trying to throw the same dumb *** suburban kids in jail for music piracy off of the internet.

And those that tell me to change the channel if you don't like it, well, it's hard to change the channel when every commercial on any network (broadcast or cable) for any product sounds like a rap song.

Ok honestly whats the difference between a "Gothic Rocker" or whatver they are called who put on this whole dark attitude of not needing anyone. Its just an attitude that the music inspires. As a black male I am in the whole rap and hip hop lifestyle. I find it a great way to experess yourself. A hell of a lot better than dressing in all black and goin around with gothc make up on ad lokin depressed. So you to say its ridiculus is to say all of music attitudes are ridiucus as well. Personally I think people on these boards have other personal issues to work out that they need to confront with themselves.

That's the smartest thing said in this thread so far.

I also have never understood the difference between rap and hip-hop.

It's hard to define what the difference is between the two if any. I've always believed that there is and you just really need to listen to the songs by the artist to know. Hip-Hop kind of leans more towards the R&B side and the songs will have singing in the chorus and whatever. While Rap is just all rapping even though there are some artists, who I define as Rap, (2Pac, Eminem, Dr. Dre) that have singing in a couple of their songs. Artists that I would put in the Hip-Hop category would be OutKast, Swollen Members, Nelly (even though he's awful), and Ja Rule (just as bad as Nelly).

Yeah so, that's my take on it. Don't worry if it doesn't make sense to you. It's the best I can do. :p

I personally don't like when people put on facades inspired by music. My philosophy is dress how ever you want, but when you bring in the attitude in with the style of dress you better have a good reason for it. Like me I dress sort of goth, all black, no make up though but I don't go around being anti-social, or pretending I have a lot of problems, because the fact is I don't. I'm happy with my life as of now. So in relevence to this topic I don't care what music you like or how you dress it's just when you add that fake attitude in that pisses me off.

Comparing hip-hop to other genres of music is like trying to compare apples and oranges. This argument isnt about the music, it's the lifestyle that some, not all, hip-hop videos and artists promote. Some promote gang violence, some promote womanizing. Others promote drug use and others promote promiscuous sex. There is nothing wrong if someone takes objection or is offended by any of those. If a parent objects, then its because they don't want their child to grow up behaving like those idiots on TV.

I love how idiots like to make generalizations based on what they see on MTV and what the "concerned parent" on the 10 o'clock news tells them.

BTW, the phrases "Rap is crap" or "You can't spell 'crap' without 'Rap'" lost their originality a long time ago.

On the womanizing aspect of Commerical Hip Hop, I see the same thing in Rock and roll. Heck the motto, "sex, drugs, and rock and roll", seem to have come from the lifestyle of rocknrollers.

RUN-DMC is cool!! I don't dress like anything 'cause my school has uniforms.

Like I said, I love Yoshikazu Mera. He has a voice that blows Josh Groban out of the water (although when I first heard the Mononoke-hime theme song I thought he was a woman). ANYWAY, you people pose interesting opinions.

Or maybe, people look at what the kids are going to be seeing when they flip on the TV. The popular, mainstream rap is what people bring up, and they do it because it is what the kids are going to be seeing. You can preach all you want about the rap with actual meaning that isn't vulgar, I know it exists, but its not in the mainstream and therefore kids aren't going to be seeing/hearing it when they flip on the TV.

That is why such arguements are made.
