I’m not suggesting a whole new subplot or anything like that, just little moments here and there. I wouldn’t be surprised, for instance, if we saw Che’ri in this comic.
Yeah. I’m not holding my breath on the Ascendancy stuff getting adapted, but at least Che’ri would make sense here.
Even if it does at the rate they are going. They’ll finish it up in 2040. it doesn’t need to adpated, but I am not as confident we’ll get another story by Zahn again as I was a while ago. The dude’s in his 70s. I know he says he wants to do another couple Thrawn and or Eli books but I honestly don’t know if Lucasfilm sees enough profit in a an Eli trilogy. And I don’t expect any Thrawn books until after the HTTE movie comes out. And that’ll be in like 5 years. still at least we have this
I mean, they did a novel about a random Inquisitor who showed up in a few issues of a Darth Vader comic. Eli Vanto doesn’t strike me as especially more niche than Iskat, and Zahn’s a big enough figure within the realm of Star Wars publishing that his name could probably do a lot of the heavy lifting in getting attention to a book.
I would be shocked if they could get through just what's in the novel in 4 issues, much less add anything new.
Well, if they will radically cut Padme's solo trip (that was quite prolonged, as well as extremely boring in the novel), there will be a chance to get through the rest without that much of reduction.
I do imagine they'll cut down the Padme backstory, at least somewhat. Running three simultaneous plotlines across 4 issues seems impossible. They truncated the Palpatine-Thrawn-Vader opening scene, after all. I do absently wish that Vader's troopers had some kind identifiers to make them more unique, otherwise they just look like, well, Stormtroopers.
Kimmund (..?) having just that one scar running down his helmet to differentiate him from a typical stormtrooper is a little lacklustre. I do hope he isn’t masked the whole comic.
I thought the Thrawn comic was abridged and could have been 8 issues. And they want to do only 4 here? We’ll see how it plays out.
That 2017 novel always felt like an awkward fit for a comic adaptation. It’s a series of mysteries for Thrawn to solve with Eli that covers many years, loosely connected by the Nightswan thread, while Governor Pryce’s story runs in tandem. It works as a novel, but I pretty much understand why they made choices in the comic. Alliances is a different beast, because, yes it’s two timelines, but it’s also much more of a straightforward action story that covers a much smaller amount of time.
Can’t wait to read this. This also gave me my OMG moment too as I haven’t been to my pull box since October. I got every few months and buy in bulk to have a lot to read.
Regarding visuals - after Nightswan was revealed to be looking like Wolverine in the first novel's adaptation, there is potential for another characters to have rather interesting appearances.
Yeah, there is a potential for great designs. Returning to currrent adaptation - Dooku's funny henchmen can have ones. Also wonder if cortosis droids are going to look like in the EU.
Even back in 2015-2016 when I bought trades when they came out. I don’t think I ever thought of buying individual comics. Despite me being interested on and off in comics for over a decade since I picked up the walking dead I still have the patience to wait for trades. to me there is never enough juice in a single comic to get fun or interest out of. You need to experience them one arc at a time. And just avoid spoilers like hell.
Spoiler: Issue #1 Well, so far seems like a decent adaptation, with main story points shown. Although Thrawn's face in present storyline is too emotionless. Grysk ships do not look very alien so far.
Spoiler Haven't read it yet, but I noticed Wookieepedia has an image of Duja's body. When I read the novel I imagined her to be pretty beaten up and left in a crummy casket, not like, y'know, asleep in the tanning booth at the day spa.
First issue did a pretty good job of covering a fair amount of the novel. Helps that this was 40 pages. They obviously cut out a lot of the smaller conversations but it somehow flows together pretty well and works as a comic. My little critique is that the art style for the present day plot is a bit simplistic for my tastes. Serviceable but the depictions of Kimmund, Rukh etc look a bit basic. Spoiler based on how the panels were laid out whenever it cut to Thrawn in his fighter, I think we’re definitely going to get a Che’ri reveal by the end of the mini.
If you wouldn’t mind please, but can you show us some pics of their ships…? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
