If you don't like how someone smells, just spray them with Febreeze when they're not looking. Or when they're sleeping, that's what college has taught me so far.

Well, I don't like it when someone overdoes it with perfume/cologne, but I'll take that any day over the stench of sweat... [face_sick]

I find the fat chicks spray the most on. As if it will make them better looking.

My old church had a perfume/fragrance free section for those who couldn't tolerate or were allergic to perfumes, etc.

It's supposed to be a light scent folks, not a hurricane assault to the senses!

Don't get me start on fabric softeners and allergies. [face_frustrated]

It's not that difficult really. One spritz in the air and you walk through it. That way the only people who can really smell you are the ones in your personal space. I figure 99.9999% of people do not belong there anyway, and those that do would most likely tell me if I'm wearing too much. :p

Oh, and a PSA: Patchouli is not a deodorant, people.

Unless I want to feel particularly stylin', I tend to forgo cologne when I'm lecturing. I add my own scent to the room via coffee breath and Mexican Mondays.

I prefer walking around with an aura of my own farts wafting around me. Smells wonderful.

    This.

I wear a little bit of a "fresh" smelling perfume to work most days. But I think heavy perfumes are annoying. I wore a sample of a more powdery floral scent one day and it was just...ugh...overwhelming all day.

I am not excusing the behaviour or saying you can't verbally acknowledge someone's offensive scent and perhaps an embarassing experience would be what they need to be aware of their order in the future, but I would think the difference comes down to choice in the moment. I can choose to be quieter in the moment, I can choose to cover up. There is an option available. So far as I know people can't choose to stop smelling in the moment, they can't make the situation any better for you at the time. As I said all they can do is be aware of it in the future.

My grandmother has to stay in the house for a few months with her gun and perfume. Every morning the bathroom is full of perFUMES.

This is why I mix my cologne with baby oil. It gives me the perfect stripper scent.

I'm with you, harpuah! I have fragrance allergies and we have a no perfume/cologne rule at work. One of my co-workers has no problem telling people they 'smell like a French whorehouse,' if they're wearing any perfume/cologne at all.

    She actually cannot breathe.

My kids like to torture me by going into the perfume section of the department store and spraying on all the sample perfumes just to make mommy sneeze!

I hate fabric softeners and Febreze, too!!

I also hate perfumes with a strong musk scent. It takes days to get the taste out of the back of my throat.

This. Generally, natural human smells are horrid and the manufactured aromas you get in a bottle (however pungent and artificial) are definitely preferable.

Not to those of us with fragrance allergies! I have to buy fragrance-free laundry soap, bath soap, and deodorant.

Easy does it when it comes to applying perfume or cologne.

Well yes, but I wear an unscented deodorant. Perfume should not be used to cover the smell of body funk.

Not to cover it, no. One should be clean.

But if I was given the choice of breathing in said funk, or parfum lavishly applied, I choose the latter.

So now here comes the time for advice... how should I go about asking this person to not kill me with his fragrance?

I don't want to be an ***hole, I mean dude isn't purposely doing anything to me... but if I have to sit next to him for the rest of the semester, I have to somehow tell him that his cologne is rank.

    Thoughts?

Tell him that wearing too much cologne causes cancer. I'm sure pertinent research will confirm this in the near future.

That's your problem right there. :p Sometimes, being nice/too nice won't cut it. For example, in the 7 person crew I'm a part of at Wally World, one of them (the 2nd lead of the crew) has bad breath. Horrible breath, feels like I'm in a trash dump every time he talks to me. What did I do? I flat out told him that his breath smells like a pile of ****, and that he should do something about it.

Wow... I do believe that was the first time I've ever been accused of being too nice... and it was Tunick of all people. :p
