I noticed that too. Thankfully, though, I'd seen Top Gun enough times when I was an innocent little kids, where such thoughts were far from my mind, so i'm able to bury any notice of sexual tension between the 2 under years of childhood innocence. Don't ever speak of this again, lest such thoughts re-emerge.

Wow, it's a good thing this announcement came out before the War of the Worlds is released. What brilliant timing!

all Top Gun and Tom Cruise stuff this makes me think of is the bit of dialog by Quentin Tarantino in the film sleep with me.

She's got the cap on, she's got the aviator glasses, she's wearing the same jacket that the Iceman wears. She is, okay, this is how I gotta get this guy, this guy's going towards the gay way, I gotta bring him back, I gotta bring him back from the gay way, so I'll do that through subterfuge, I'm gonna dress like a man. All right? That is how she approaches it. Okay, now let me just ask you - I'm gonna digress for two seconds here. I met this girl Amy here, she's like floating around here and everything. Now, she just got divorced, right? All right, but the REAL ending of the movie is when they fight the MIGs at the end, all right? Because he has passed over into the gay way. They are this gay fighting(beep) force, all right? And they're beating the Russians, the gays are beating the Russians. And it's over, and they (beep) land, and Iceman's been trying to get Maverick the entire time, and finally, he's got him, all right? And what is the last (beep) line that they have together? They're all hugging and kissing and happy with each other, and Ice comes up to Maverick, and he says, "Man, you can ride my tail, anytime!" And what does Maverick say? "You can ride mine!" Swordfight! Swordfight! (beep)' A, man!

I don't like the Tom-Cruise-is-gay jokes. He's a nice guy and a good actor, and I think it's going a bit far. It's okay in a "Haha, funny" way, but I refrain from it.

As for the relationship looking like a publicity stunt...it does sort of have that tinge, but does Cruise ( not to mention Spielberg ) really need that sort of box-office boost? No, I don't think so.

 

I'm just wondering what a Scientology wedding is like. Do both the bride and groom pay $500,000 to read bad sci-fi in the hopes that they can gain superhuman abilities and free themselves from the chains of the evil alien Xenu?

Or is the marriage normal, but afterwards the husband creates a farcical cult, cheats on his wife, and eventually has the wife thrown in jail for the same crimes he committed?
