Tournament: Greatest movies of the Sci-Fi / Fantasy Genre (WINNER ANNOUNCED!)

This is kinda tough.

LOTR:
Visually beautiful
Great characters
Gandalf
Balrog
Sauron

Aliens:
Fun and funny
Dropship
Hordes of Aliens
Ripley as new mom
Suspense
Berk get what's coming to him
"Get away from her you *****!"
"We're *******! We're doomed!"

Toughy.

 

Both were visually stunning for their time. Both have great plots and characters. Both have great lines of dialogue. Both have great music. Both lived up to their hype.

But the one I chose lived up to its hype and changed the formula when compared to previous installments or incarnations of the story. Did the story in a different way and came out better. It also produced action figures that I believe rival Star Wars.

Ripley grabs his hand. They share a moment, albeit

Queen Alien > The Balrog > Shelob > every other beast in Middle Earth

 

While I love Aliens, the best of the series, FOTR blew me away and is still my all time fave movie.

Yeah, I voted, but I can honestly say that I'll be happy whichever way this goes.

 

Either way, you can't go wrong. They're both classics.

I agree, it came down to two highly exceptional movies. I'm happy with either.

 

Well I got the results. Man was it close. For a while there the votes were literally alternating back and forth. One for Aliens, one for LotR, another for Aliens, then another for LotR. It was a dead heat for a while there.

Alright, I have the results. The winner is .... oh look a cute bunny.

Granted, I would've been fine with FOTR, but Aliens has 20 more years or so of history and viewings. And I don't think there has ever been a better bad guy alien than the Xenomorph.


Plus the Colonial Marines just kick major ***. Thanks, OB506 for doing this --it was fun.

 

It's fitting, isn't it?

 

I'm not to crazy about the Alien franchise.
