Are the Wachowskis working on a new "Matrix" trilogy? That's the rumor coming from Latino Review, who say that the Jupiter Ascending filmmakers are returning to the franchise which brought in $1.632 billion for Warner Bros. Pictures.

It's been over 10 years since the last film hit theaters. The Matrix, starring Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss and Hugo Weaving, opened in theaters in 1999 and was followed by both The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions in 2003.

According to the site: "We’ve been told that the Wachowski’s have already started the writing process with early treatments and outlines already turned into the studio. No word if they will want to direct but my money says “Claro que Si!”…

The derisive ending of the original Matrix trilogy include the bearded Architect suggesting that Neo wasn’t the first “One,” opening the story world for prequels."

    Sounds pretty baseless.

Well, if it panned out, I imagine the rationale would be

If they do it I don't need prequels. Sequels only, and they need to take a good look at the legit criticisms of the trilogy. That being said, I'd be all for it.

I loved the first Matrix film. As long as the story looked interesting I would check it out. Although the latest Wachowski flick Jupiter Ascending doesn't look so hot.

It's a no-win scenario. If they fail at the end once again, we just re-watched the same story. If they do win, the first trilogy is rendered pointless.

Some people I know didn't like it because the ending was too open ended. They wanted more closure.

It didn't bother me, but a lot of people I know wanted a simple man is good, machines are evil, man defeats the machines ending.

In The Matrix Online a woman named Sarah Edmontons...anagram for Thomas Anderton...wakens in a hospital from a coma and departs. Neo's body was never retruned, but was not broken down. Neither was Trinity's.

So a scene near the end of the second film is now the end of the trilogy, eh?

    And, "derisive"? Really?

And that is why they fail. The film didn't fail. They at least were smart enough to go in a different direction and one that you can see coming in the first film.

The films failed when they stopped plagi-- getting their inspiration from Grant Morrison's The Invisibles and went all Judeo-Christian on us.

I'll wait for a better source to come along with this information. Anything from the Latino Review is just as suspect as anything you read on the wall of a public restroom.

No, it's not. The second they stopped copy-- getting inspired by it, they started sucking. That's what happens when you are not that talented.
