From what I have heard of this, it sounds like its great for getting people up to speed if you are new to Star Wars, and alright at for putting some legends material back into canon, but short on any new information, unlike say, the Atlas and the Guide to Warfare.

So to ask the horrible question, what is the allure of this book when, most this information is already out there in some form or another?

Go on, someone sell it to me :p

That's Lucasfilm Marketing's job, I'm afraid. If Lucasfilm Marketing paid me the big bucks, I would be happy to sell it to you. Sadly, Lucasfilm Marketing does not pay me the big bucks. Lucasfilm Marketing pays me no bucks at all, in fact.

You answered your own question as to whether or not you should buy it, though. It is intended for new and returning fans who want to get up to speed with the new canon, or the hardcore folks who want to find out how much has been "recanonized." If you fall into either of these categories, congratulations! You'll find this book immensely satisfying. It is not packed with "new" information, however (although there may be some), and if that's what you're after then check it out at your local bookstore to decide if it's worth your hard-earned coin.

It is a really beautiful book. Not saying that alone makes it worth the purchase, but it's a point in its favor.

Keep in mind also that Amazon has a mysterious second listing for this book, listed as a September release, which may contain additional TFA-related information (and might hopefully correct some editorial mistakes that made it into the first printing). We don't know much more than that about this edition of the book yet, if it is in fact different than the just-released April version.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is a demonstration of why I've never been a successful salesman.

Indeed it does, it's actually in the starwars.com Databank.

Not sure what the problem with "Stewjon" is. I doubt the names "Jon" and "Stewart" exist in the GFFA.

Also, what does the book say about IG-88?

Nope, but you helped me by confirming for me what this book really contains, which was what I was looking for all along :)

Scipio got moved to the Outer Rim according to Databank, Ultimate Star Wars put in the Albarrio sector (which makes sense considering where Mygeeto is and Mygeeto was a Banking Clan stronghold in old canon) but the problem:

Ultimate Star Wars places the Albarrio sector in the Core Worlds region.

    Oops!

I'm told this is a 100% actual map that appears in the guide. Maybe they should have paid Modi more for these revisions.

I think the editors didn't know what they were doing. The mistakes from the previews I've seen alone are enough to wonder.

The book also gives Qui-Gon Jinn a homeworld. He's from Coruscant

There are quite a few guys named Jon in the GFFA. Jon Antilles, Jon Arco, Jon "Dutch" Vander and Jon, you know, the farmer, amongst them.
I think Stewjon is a silly name and I think an off the cuff remark by George while getting cute with a late night tv show host is an incredibly stupid thing to have been taken seriously.

I really couldn't give a crap about Stewjon. It's no more inherently silly than a hundred other planet names, and there's no reason whatsoever Obi needs to be from somewhere that matters. His strength as a character comes from his starting out as Random Jedi #42.
I'm gonna make an educated guess and say, not that.

And honestly, Anakin is the only prequel Jedi whose real homeworld isn't Coruscant. Does Obi-Wan remember Stewjon? Does Plo Koon remember Dorin? Do Shaak Ti and Ahsoka remember Shili? Nope, they were all raised in the Temple. It really doesn't matter where any of them were born. That's their homeworld.

A rogue assassin droid from Holawan Laboratories and Boba Fett's chief rival. Works alone. Gadgets: head ringed with sensors, blasers, pulse cannons, vibroblades, posison darts and toxic gas dispensers.

What does it say about OOM-9? He seemed smarter than the average Battle Droid Commander.

There is an actual "article" for OOM-9: Pretty much just the commander of the droid forces in the invasion of Naboo

Overall I think it's a great book. It includes a lot of stuff and contains some interesting information (although most of it isn't new). I really like the layout/design of the book and the selection of pictures in it is really nice.

However I'm a little bit disappointed that many of the minor/background characters didn't make it into the book (Cantina patrons, Endor rebel pilots, Bravo Flight from TMP, Toryn Farr, Chief Bast, etc.). Would have been nice, if they were at least included with just a picture and name, if there wasn't enough space for a full "profile article" left.

Second thing I'm a little bit disappointed about is that most of the vehicles/starships don't include any information about their size/length/height.

With the news of a potential Boba Fett origin story Anthology film, I was curious what the guide said about Boba Fett? Is there a clear mention that the Boba in the Prequels is the Boba in the OT?

Yeah, he's even the same person in TCW also. I remember Pablo giving a snarky remark to someone who asked him about that year old rumor.
