Well since I made the 2010 movie thread I might as well make one for the movies next year as well.

    (from movieweb.com)

Agora - Set in Roman Egypt in the fourth century A.D. Weisz plays astrologer-philosopher Hypatia of Alexandria, who fights to save the collected wisdom of the ancient world. Her slave Davus (Minghella) is torn between his love for his mistress and the possibility of gaining his freedom by joining the rising tide of Christianity. Director: Alejandro Amenabar. Producers: Mateo Gil, Alejandro Amenabar. Starring: Rachel Weisz, Max Minghella, Oscar Isaac, Ashraf Barhom, Michael Lonsdale, Rupert Evans, Homayoun Ershadi.

Akira - Akira set in a neon-lit futuristic post-nuclear war Tokyo in 2019 where a teen biker gang member is subjected to a government experiment which unleashes his latent powers. The gang's leader must find a way to stop the ensuing swathe of destruction. The anime classic originated in 1988 as manga and then was made into an animated film by Katsuhiro Otoma, which is considered by many fans of Japanese animation to be among the finest works in the genre. Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio.

The Alchemist - The story centers on a young Spaniard who embarks on a quest to find a hidden treasure within the Egyptian pyramids. Since its debut in 1988, the adventure novel by Paulo Coelho has sold more than 40 million copies in over 150 countries. Starring: Lawrence Fishburne.

Amelia - Hilary Swank plays Earhart, a noted American aviation pioneer, author and women's rights advocate who disappeared over the central Pacific Ocean near Howland Island during an attempt to make a circumnavigational flight of the globe in 1937. Starring: Hilary Swank, Richard Gere.

Army of the Dead - Set in a quarantined Las Vegas in the not-too-distant future, "Army" revolves around a father who tries to save his daughter from imminent death in a zombie-infested world.

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes! - Kent Nichols and Douglas Sarine, creators of the hit Web series "Ask a Ninja," are writing an adaptation of the 1978 cult monster movie. The original "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes!" by director/writer John De Bello was released in 1978 and spawned a 1988 sequel starring unknown George Clooney as well as an animated TV series in 1990.

Austin Powers 4 - The fourth film in the "Austin Powers" franchise will be developed entirely from Dr. Evil's point of view. Starring: Mike Meyers, Graham Gordy.

Battle Angel - "Battle Angel" is based on the Japanese Manga series of graphic novels by Yukito Kishiro. The movie combines the first three books, Ido, Alita, and Hugo.

Set in the 26th century, the story takes place 300 years after a societal collapse caused by a major war. But in that society, it's a technological dark age following a pinnacle of achievement far, far beyond where we are right now. It's a post-apocalyptic world from a very high level with cyborg technology as just a way of life. People are augmented a lot as workers and so on, so being a cyborg is not unusual. The main character is a cyborg. She has an organic human brain, and she looks like she's about fourteen years old. She has a completely artificial body and she's lost her memory - she's found in a wreckage and she's reconstituted by a cyber-surgeon who becomes her surrogate father. Director: James Cameron.

The Birds - A reimagining of Daphne Du Maurier's short story, which inspired the 1963 Alfred Hitchcock classic about killer birds that

I am sure that I missed plenty. I did not include every movie coming out in 2009 because it would take up the whole screen even more than is does now with what I posted.

Gonna hope that that Christmas Carol featuring Jim Carrey in every role is one of the ones that doesn't make it.

I sincerely hope that the Akira remake doesn't go ahead. The anime film is a work of art, why ruin it with live action? I don't care how good an actor Di Caprio is, this will be awful.

Only things I'm interested in are Star Trek and T4, I mean come on, Christian Bale as John Connor? That's going to rock, he saved Batman, maybe he can save the terminator series. :)

Reading the thread again please for the love of god tell me that Leo in Akira is a rumor! Great actor but he does not belong in Akira. I'm curious to see how they try to translate that to the screen.

'cause Goyer and the Nolans deserve absolutely no credit for that...at all...

Public Enemies, Body of Lies, Nottingham, The Human Factor, and Watchmen are the only films I'm looking forward to.

"Fast and the Furious - Brian (Paul Walker) is freed from prison (the authorities found out that he let Dominic played by Vin Diesel go at the end of the first film) to help the feds stop a heroin importer known as Braga."

If I am reading this correctly, then in the beginning of this new movie, Brian goes to prison but gets freed to help the feds.

This was the exact plot of 2 Fast 2 Furious, however. In the beginning of that movie, the feds already knew what he did for Vin Diesel, and so they catch Paul Walker. Then at the end of the movie his record was wiped clean because he successfully helped them catch the bad guy.

Now I love 2 Fast 2 Furious, but the synopsis of the upcoming movie just doesn't make sense. I guess the plot is, or will be, different than what is stated here.

Of course they do, sorry I forgot to mention them. [face_blush] Didn't mean any disrespect towards Goyer or the Nolans. All around its a flawless movie, everyone deserves credit for it.

This is why I hardly ever post here, was just giving my two cents. But somedays I just should keep my mouth shut [face_blush]

I don't think you can call it SAVING when we're dealing with a franchise so big that you have to go out of your way to make an installment that does poorly at the box office.

You're asking the Fast and the Furious movies to make logical sense.

Do you see the problem here?

Oh, why oh why do these nimrods think they can remake Hitchcock? Has one of these remakes *ever* been successful?

Haven't seen it, and it sounds not too close, nor was it called "Rear Window"

It's not that close, but you can tell it takes it's roots from Rear Window.

No sweat ;). I sometimes can read something and it be thrown way out of context. Hey I think there is one thing that we all can agree on, at least Schumacher no longer has his filthy paws on it. :-D

I'm interested to see how this goes with Heath Ledger's death and how will it affect the film. But I can't wait for Two-Face, though I'm hearing you really don't see him in this one.

    So many bad movies... [face_hypnotized]

Seriously. A Goonies sequel? A John Woo western based off of King Arthur legends with the gun from Supernatural? A Scorpion King sequel without the Rock? Another crappy Dan Brown novel adaptation? (and when I say crap I'm referring both to the books and the DVC film. Go read a classic idiots. They are called classics for a reason.) More Transformers, Fast and the Furious, more '80s nostalgia remakes and video game films? Who is funding this drivel?

But it doesn't aspire to be Rear Window which is why it works so well. It's a fun, generation y, spin on the concept. It homages a lot of other films as well.

Would've been better if it were R rated though.

I think Disturbia worked well for its rating and its target audience. I personally respond better to "remakes," when they do like what Disturbia did and reimagined (sp?) it for a new generation. If the Bird's remake is a totally different take on the story then maybe it'll be okay. Let's just hope its not like Gus Van Sant's catastrophe of the shot by shot remake of Psycho. *gag*
