It doesn't mention it because they probably don't know yet, but who says that the guy who shot them didn't target them because they were Mormon or missionaries (or both). If that's the case, then it certainly has a lot to do with the story.

That's why I said "not necessarily." But I grew up in Provo and I've seen kids get their asses kicked for not being Mormon. The tragedy of it doesn't come with being Mormon. The tragedy comes from some sick guy who killed two young kids when they most likely didn't deserve it.

Just about everybody in the civilized world knows a Mormon Missionary when they see one. White shirt, black name badge, two of them together.

It's sad, because so far there's no motive. The article kind of drives one to hypothesize that it was a religious based killing, which we've seen before in our religion.

I'm not a Jehovah's Witness, and I don't agree with their beliefs, but I'll defend until the day I die their right to worship that way. If their religion says to go door to door a la Mormonism, then so be it. Who am I to say they're wrong to live their life according to their own mandates?

Being an atheist, I find such downplaying of life despicable.

Yes, and just about everyone else recognizes a white guy, a male guy, someone who is not part of your group (if you belong to a gang or some cult that participants of which all dress in a certain way or just all know each other,) and you also recognize another human being in general.

A religious-based killing which have also been seen during the crusades, holocaust, 9/11, etc. You've also seen the Mormon Meadow Massacre where 120 non-Mormons (men, women, and children) were slaughtered in 1857 by Mormons and possibly Southern Paiutes in your religion.

I view Mormonism to be just as wacky as all the other religions, and agree that people should be allowed to believe whatever they wish. I'm getting the impression that you're going to believe this situation shows the horror and torment Mormons have been through which shows how much the group has been through which in turn supports your conclusion that you are on the path of truth and a good person as well no matter what evidence is shown that those don't follow in a complete and organized line . . . So I should stop arguing, but I have my own understanding of truth which I wish to spread for the benefit of species. At least we have something in common, eh? ;)

Not quite fixed- obviously that perspective doesn't come with being a human being giving one spoke it . . . How about "Being in possession of a humane sense of humor, I find . . ." ?

Though I obviously don't pray; personally, I think this is the ideal response. I hope these grieving people soon find peace as well.

Zas, your response indeed shows how one sided your claims are.

I won't argue what you're trying to say, but I see you forgot to mention the attrocities placed on the Mormons in Missouri, Illinois, and every other place they've lived.

This thread is not about Mormonism, it's about the senseless killing of two people who were seemingly minding their own business.

I was raised one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Man could I ever tell you some stories of things that happened at the door. This is a shame.

IMO this isn't a religiously motivated killing and shouldn't be treated as such.
    Doubtless it will be though.

I'm not Morman myself but dated a Morman girl for about a year and a half a few years ago, so I got to know about the religion quite a bit. I've got to say that I kind of respect the missionaries for practiacally giving up their lives for months at a time simply for their religion. That's faith, and you can't knock people for it. I've had missionaries come to my house a few times and I'm always polite and courteous with them because I know how hard it is for them. I never felt pressured at all to convert. Hell, I've been more pressured by the Scientoligy kiosk at my local mall than by the Mormons. It's a real shame when something like this happens.

Ditto and exactly, why does it matter what someone is walking around doing, unless they are hurting or endangering others? What makes people think it's any different saying "I want to kill all evangalists" and "I want to kill all people from the middle east"? You're just furthering their cause, making them into a saint if you do. I'm sure that's what the families are saying about this(if it was because of their faith). It is the greatest honor for a Christian to die for their religion, or to be persecuted for it(at least that's what the bible says). So, go ahead.

My ex-girlfriend shot a cat that wandered into our back yard once. She didn't like cats much.

I just hope that they can find this guy to figure out his motives.

It may not be religiously inclined, but chances are that it could have been.

How often does a guy just walk up and put a cap in two people for no reason...didn't even rob them or stick around to watch the bodies fall. Just walked up, shot, and left.

There's something that we're not being told here, and I hope we can figure it out.

On the plus side, theres gotta be like 5 or 6 lonely Mormon widows wandering around waiting for me to scoop them up on the rebound. That's pretty much all that comes to mind when I hear a Mormon died, but I guess this one was a missionary so I got nothing.
