Dimitriaka=cereal. Ceres is the latin name of the goddess Dimitra, goddess of agriculture. Hence the element Ceres (Ce) and the asteroid Ceres. Also cereal killer=a criminal who is rich in fibre.

Lakonikos=s'one who uses few words to express his/hers opinion. From the word Lakonas=s'one from Sparta. The ancient Spartans were legendary for not using toom any words to express smth. There is a story, about two Spartans carrying a sack sayingIt needs wheat. Yet, they could just point the empty sack and say Wheat, since it was obvious the sack was empty.


Konstantinoupoli=Constantinople. A city named after a general with the same name as me ( ). Also known as Poli. The Byzantines used to say Eis tin Polin i.e. to the city. Hence the Turkish Istanbul.

Malak: I mixed it up with ancient Greek. I learn Latin at school, my teacher teaches both Latin and ancient Greek and somethimes she tells us some simillarities with languages. Anyway, thanks for the explanation.

 

My ancient Greek lessons were years ago, but I thought angelos was indeed spelled with two gammas (aggelos), but pronounced 'angelos' even in ancient Greek ?

I just checked in a few books. The correct spelling would be: anggellos. Dictionary says there is also a formaggellos, without 'n', but it means the same.
