Wow, who would have thought that this Nissan X-Trail SUV will end up in a commercial featuring Rogue One fight scenes and cool vehicles? And after a check through good ol' Wikipedia, turns out that you guys in the USA and Canada call it the Nissan Rogue... What a perfect coincidence in terms of vehicle name!
Hmmm, since this X-Trail is a popular SUV in Malaysia, I wonder if Nissan will also release the Rogue One edition here... Now that's the ultimate collectible vehicle for any Star Wars fan, I must say!
I just want the Y-Wings to get some love rather than being "sidekicks" to the ever-popular X-Wings. That ship is unjustly maligned as a flying coffin, being labeled as the "most often destroyed Rebel ship" (as the description reads from a Hasbro Titanium Series toy) even though we saw more on-screen X-Wing deaths.
It's used mostly as a bomber; bombers by nature are less maneuverable and more prone to being shot down if not given a proper escort.
A bunch? Just based on the gillette commercial there are 6 or 7 flying in to Scarrif. Obviously the gillette commercial isn't canon, but with the number of shots in there filling in what we've already seen in the trailers I wouldn't be surprised if the squad of them rolling in shows up in the movie.
I'm just wondering why the Rogue One team has to transmit the data tapes rather than escape the planet. It seems like the Cargo Shuttle they used to get there may well get destroyed and then an unoccupied (except for pilots and Bistan) U-Wing is sent to extract them but gets destroyed as well. If they had more U-Wings in the atmosphere why did another not get diverted to pick up the Data Tapes? Thinking about it even an X-Wing could have landed to take the Tapes off planet.
'Cause McGuffin? Maybe they all do get destroyed by the time it is said and done, same with the x-wings and any other ships that show up there. Maybe the limitations of a small craft mean that they couldn't get there in an acceptable time. Now that I think about it, it could just be a matter of double redundancy. They could put it in a U-wing, but if that was the whole game plan, how bad would it suck to see it take off and turn into a fireball a few seconds later. Something physical could still be intercepted, or just destroyed. Much like real life, if they put it on "the net" it's going to be out there forever.
I'm thinking of two possible scenarios: 1) The situation goes terribly off hand and Jyn's group is unable to escape (and the Rebel ships are unable to pick them up as they're being overwhelmed by the Empire fleet) and in a last-ditch effort they transmit the DS plans. 2) In order to avoid being tracked to the Yavin IV base, they decide that the best way of getting away with those plans is to simply transmiting them. In both scenarios, the Tantive IV would just "pass by" as a diplomatic ship ready to receive that transmition.
I'm hoping we don't see them. I don't want R1 to just be packed with every imperial vehicle we see throughout the OT. Leave some for the specific episodes they were introduced in.
Yeah, sorry I misposted that. What I really meant was that I hope we don't just see ALL of the different models of Imperial ships/vehicles/etc. Packed into one film (R1). For example, I'd have preferred we don't see TIE Bombers till ESB, the AT-STs and TIE Interceptors until ROTJ, that kind of thing. Keep at least some of the designs exclusive to where they were first introduced...
The AT-ST really does fit in those narrow streets though. I also wouldn't mind seing the tie bombers potential in R1. Interceptors i agree with however. A-wings should've been exclusive to ROTJ as well. (this is down to personal taste obviously)
The A-Wing in ROTJ should be a development of the Rebels A-Wing, it's like between Rebels and ROTJ the Rebel Alliance has not managed any upgrades of their key star fighters which is a little retarded considering the amount of experience gained in that time.
I also like the concept of the TIE/In being a response to the success of the X-Wing and the underpreformance of the TIE/Ln. Thanks Rebels...
"General Jan Dodonna's after action review of the Battle of Yavin affirmed the value of Alliance starfighters, but also highlighted that a simple trio of TIEstarfighters had almost foiled the trench run. Dodonna planned to create a dedicated Alliance interceptor, in anticipation of a similar analysis by the Imperial Navy; indeed, Sienar Fleet Systems accelerated work on an updated TIE Interceptor which would match the A-wing's speed."
If the A-Wing is being used in Rebels before ANH, it should be in Rogue One. I agree that the iconic OT ships from ESB and ROTJ should be left for that time period and films.
One thing always perks my mind about this shot from the second trailer - are the Star Destroyers that tiny when compared with the Death Star? We always envision the Destroyers as impressively-huge vessels of nearly 3km long that form the mobile units of the Empire, with the DS1 super-weapon as backup... But I'm surprised that these ships are so small, in actual fact!
