Now, if I really wanted to buy one, I could afford a Jedi Tunic and Robe, but considering how I am still growing, I do not think I want to invest in one yet. I realize that there are many cheap Halloween costumes that I could buy, but I would want the real thing if I wanted to get a tunic that looked like the ones in the movie. Nothing that's just like a shirt... or in that case polyester. Haha.

I was just kinda brainstorming one night about the costumes for the fanfilm my friends and I will be making this summer ('07) and I struck an idea. It is very simple, but it's different. I've watched many fanfilms and I've never seen this. Basically the idea is to put on a long sleeve shirt and then over that put on a sleeveless shirt. It doesn't look the best, but the whole point of the film is for it to be serious in dialogue and somewhat the story, but to have underlying comedy. (We will be acting serious but it is supposed to be humorous).

I have no idea for what we will be wearing for pants or robes, but if anyone has any ideas or comments or ways I can improve it please post a reply.

You know a lot of guys just wear regular dickie style pants with their costumes. You wouldn't have to worry about the pockets because they are covered up by your tunics/robes anyway. Just a suggestion. Just make sure that you don't get the "cell phone pocket" style pants, because well... that should be obvious.

Hi. I don't post very often, but thought I'd offer up a cheap alternative for Jedi pants. I like to use pajama pants for my Jedi outfit. They're lightweight and considering you only see from about mid-thigh to just below the knee, nobody could tell what they are. I also tuck them into my socks so that they don't pull out of the boots. I just recently found a pair of khaki pajama pants which fits my Obi Wan costume perfectly. Hope that helps.

Bathrobes at thrift stores. You can dye them brown if they are not brown. These will be missing the hoods, however. Your idea about the sleeveless shirts sounds good. You may even be able to find inner robes as large shirts at thrift stores.

Thrift stores are great for all sorts of costume items to modify.

Snow boots. Belt pouches. The $7 basic lightsabers (or Hasbro ones you likely already have if you're this big of a fan to make a film).

Another option for robes is to use cotton flannel fabric- I made my first cloak out of something similar. It's lightweight and comfortable, has a nice soft texture which looks great from a few feet away, and it's WAY cheaper than wool.

I don't post very often but I do sell the costumes. Every so often, I have to liquidate the stock to make room for new items. I have made many of the Jedi gear you see at the cons including one of my customers winning the first price at Celeb 4 wearing my costume. You catch me on a good day and I can always see what needs to go, make a deal and even split the payment. I do alot of work for the sons of the suns fellows. I would not follow the advise of just throwing things together. Not a good advise and you will feel it standing next to one of these designer Jedi as I like to call them at the cons. As far as the pants go, they are regular khaki pants which can be dyed any color you wish.

I posted Jedi for Cheap in the 'Costumes for Cheap' thread in the FanFilms forum ages ago. That should help for a fan film if you just need something that works for the camera.

I've found that the best cheap pants are scrubs. They come in all kinds of colors, including white if you cant find the right shade if you want to dye them.

I used plain khakis for my pants. That way I had a place to put my wallet and keys.

Dockers come in all of the popular Jedi colors, and you probably already own a tan pair.

I never had a problem finding pants for my Jedi costume. I just pulled a pair of brown work slacks out of the closet and went with those. Most of my stuff comes from the clearance racks of department stores, and it's a lot easier than me trying to sew a pair of pants.
