Not bad for the fake country of Sealand, I think. [image=http://www.chimpomatic.com/file-uploads/large/sealand-flag.jpg] Dragon = Instant Win [image=http://www.lifecycle-uk.net/assets/galleries/83/welsh_flag.jpg] I like these ones. [image=http://www.worldclassflags.com/productimages/his_fleurdelis.gif] [image=http://media.canada.com/canwest/90/fleur_de_lis_flag_210x210.jpg] Not sure what to make of this, French America? I found this: [image=http://n1.cdn.spikedhumor.com/1/711000/182365_bear_flag_1.jpg] I want to live in *that* state. -sj loves kevin spacey
Out of the many Scandinavian horizontal crosses, this is one of my favourites. I like the deep blue on white. It reminds me of water and snow. 8/10 FINLAND! VOITTO! EDIT: Two new challengers enter the ring! FIGHT! State of Missouri [image=http://www.westminster-mo.edu/studentlife/career/internship/opportunities/PublishingImages/Missouri%20Flag.jpg] The seal is nice, but can't say much for the red, white and blue bars though, it's kinda been done before you know? 6/10 State of California [image=http://www.usc.edu/dept/gero/nrcshhm/directory/States_Images/ca-flag.gif] Scores points for not having a blue background, the bear is also facing to the left as per the rules of heraldry, and the lone star is a nice touch. However it loses points for the wording. The whole point of a flag is recognition from a distance, so adding words is mostly pointless. It also means you have to manufacture two different sides. 7/10 Will do the rest when after sleep.
Also, I have never understood the official name "California Republic". Why that instead of "Republic of California" or "Californian Republic"? I know that's the name of the state and not just on the flag, but it's always bothered me. -sj loves kevin spacey

Wales [image=http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/images/g/gb-wales.gif] A bold flag for sure. The white sky over green land is nice, and the fiery red dragon makes it hard not to like this one. Even its name is impressive: Y Ddraig Goch. The complexity of the dragon has led to quite a few reproduction errors, which is probably its only flaw. 9/10 Bhutan [image=http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/images/b/bt.gif] A slighty more muted dragon flag, but gold, orange and white are easy on the eyes. I also like how the dragon is rising up as if flying away. Not sure about the diagonal divide though. While it's used well with the dragon, I don't like the way it cuts through. If they made the dragon a little straighter or larger, they could avoid this problem. 8/10
Japan [image=https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/graphics/flags/large/ja-lgflag.gif] Scores points for simplicity, but the more I stare at it the more dull it becomes. I dunno, I guess it works overall. 7/10 Canada [image=http://www.gsea.org/awardinfo/locate/PublishingImages/flag_canada.gif] I like the leaf symbol, but don't like the vertical bars either side. It just seems to go against the flow of a flag. Bonus points for having the guts to ditch the Union Jack though. 8/10
not being a smartass, genuinely curious how you rate this one. [image=http://cdn3.ioffer.com/img/item/958/426/03/o_l1N2bGotuiYdGAI.jpg]
Flag of the pre-Pahlavi Qajar-dynasty who ruled Iran until 1925, when the father of the last shah, Reza Pahlavi seized power in a coup, toppling the Qajar-dynasty and gradually also reversing the accomplishments of the first Constitutional Revolution of 1906 in creating some semblance of democracy. Objectively speaking though, he achieved a lot in modernizing the country, despite his iron fist. This is the latest version of the flag as decided by the constitutional parliament in 1910, before it was replaced by the Pahlavi-era flag. [image=http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/7/7a/Flag_of_Persia_%281910%29.svg/800px-Flag_of_Persia_%281910%29.svg.png] Reza Pahlavi kept the Qajar-era flag, only tweaking it by pronouncing the colors more strongly (as below). The flag kept its overly wide ratio. Reza's son Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the last shah of Iran, tweaked it again in 1964, trimming it on its sides to reduce the width. The colors are the same as his father's, but the emblem is replaced with a lamer one. [image=http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/f/f6/Lionflag.svg/800px-Lionflag.svg.png] Flag of the current Islamic Republic of Iran. [image=http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/ca/Flag_of_Iran.svg/800px-Flag_of_Iran.svg.png] I like the top one best. The Lion and Sun emblem is better in this one than the later Pahlavi-era flag. The pale colors of the Qajar-era flag, I remain undecided about. To be honest, I think the bottom flag is nice too, and if the regime it represents weren't the ******** that they are, I might not have hated it. Unfortunately though, this is not the case.
[image=http://www.gsea.org/awardinfo/locate/PublishingImages/flag_canada.gif] The JCC icon of the Canadian Flag reminds me of a TIE fighter. I probably shouldn't have posted that.
United Nations [image=http://blog.lib.umn.edu/rade0117/architecture/un-flag.jpg] It has very neutral colours, which is its strength and its weakness. The world symbol should be bigger IMO. 6/10 Nazi Germany [image=http://cdn3.ioffer.com/img/item/958/426/03/o_l1N2bGotuiYdGAI.jpg] A tricky one. It's very hard to praise this design without making yourself look like a Nazi sympathiser. As a flag, it's successful for being instantly recognisable, but as a symbol, it's a failure for being universally hated.

Well it's quite similar to France's old royal flag: [image=http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/images/f/fr_roys.gif] Y'know, the from the old kingdom that helped America defeat the British. Malawi [image=http://www.culturetculture.org/generated/photos/MalawiFlag.gif] Not a big fan of black on flags, it's such a harsh look. I like the mix of the traditional tricolour with the rising sun though. 6/10 State of South Carolina [image=http://www.epa.gov/waste/laws-regs/state/images/south_carolina.gif] It's simple and recognisable, but the crescent moon looks a little off for some reason. 7/10
Which is a shame, because it was an interesting and positive symbol before the Nazis got their hands on it.
