Hey, I plan to have some vibro blades in my fan film. They are carried by some of teh bounty hunters not able to wield sabers.

if you don't know this is a vibro ax, can't find a vibro blade: http://www.imagedump.com/index.cgi?pick=get&tp=27547
How do you do the Slight glow...better pics in star wars galaxies!

In AE: Roto a white solid over the blade, then blur the heck out it.

Do vibro weapons glow? I thought they just looked a little blurred because they are vibrating so much.

Why even add a glow? Just throw in some creative sound effects and it sells it on it's own. No need to clutter it with needless glows.

What I'd probably do is put a little bit of gaussian blur on the blade, and then make the rest of it work with sound effects.

seems like mainly a sound thing. i can't imagine what you'd use though.

the best thing would be the sword sounds from house of flying daggers and crouching tiger. they sort of sing through the air.

but if somebody's going to be fighting against a sabre, you might want to put a sheild on the vibroblade.

I can't imagine a vibroblade being able to take on a saber unless it was made of Cortosis or plated with Krayyt Dragon scales...

sabres can't go through shields. that was the original idea for the electrostaff, a shielded staff.

But how does the electricity arcs work then? Seems like having that sheilded would prevent them from continuously discharging as they do.

Vibroblades shouldn't glow. They merely vibrate. But if you want it to glow, do your standard lightsaber effect then take the saber layer's transparency down to maybe 10 or so.

I may get alot of anger out of you guys for this but...

You are argueing over a fictional object. And, yeah, its a simple effect, Funk's right, just do that.

Yeah, Funk is rule number 4.

As for the sound, electric toothbrush. Pass it by the mic for swings. Might change up the hum by putting your finger on it and stuff. Hmmm I think I'll try a test tomorrow when people aren't asleep. Of course it may just sound better in my head than reality; like the lines I'd try on friends sisters.

you'd have to make a sound out of actual vibrating metal. like a tuning fork.

Uhm. In an X-Wing novell, there is a description of knife's based on this vibro technology, and they glow so that their wielders can "write" signs and letters in the air, like with a flambeau.

So, I'd basically add a faint glow, but only the colored corona and leave the white core out.

They look better with a slight glow, and the vibro blades in SW: Galaxies glowed, that's where I got the idea.

I thought the weapons in RotJ were usual axes.

However, of course the blades do not glow until they are turned on. So, maybe... ah, whatever.

Swimmerman, do whatever you like best. Just make sure to show us the results. ;)

Ok, 4 files in the zip. Just the tooth brush, pressing on the tooth brush, sticking it to a fork, and then the final is all three meshed together. If you have a sound editing program, you can tweak it by changing the speed, pitch, etc.

    clicky

If you want swipes, I'll need to see video so I can time it. That way it's not just volume up and down, but you can get some dopple in it.

Blastsword, used by the Adumari in "Starfights of Adumar", book 9 of the series. It's not a vibroblade in any sense, but instead a sword with a blaster on the end that goes off when it hits something. It'd be a fun effect to do sometime.

But, still. Vibroblades do not glow. They vibrate. Which would, yes, produce some sort of interesting noises, though they should be muffled. Where did you get the idea that they glow, may I ask?
