Maybe Liam had taken a pay cut or something, he seems very partial to his character and doesnt want anyone else playing the part:

    http://www.inquisitr.com/1754171/li...r-wars-spin-off-i-could-return-as-a-hologram/

    http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/01/08/liam-neeson-is-open-to-doing-more-star-wars

Many of the leads of the PT (or OT) have criticized the actual movies and some even to distance themselves or remain aloof about the movies and Lucas, but that doesnt appear to stop them from going back. So not really sure why some go or are allowed back, likely has to do with pay, availability and if the producers want them and its good for ratings and sales ect.

I think Tim Curry's best performance is at the end of the Order 66/clone trooper arc, when he talks about executing Order 66. I also like how he delivered the lines when he Force-choked Tyranus from light-years away: "This is not the first time you have proven to be clumsy, Lord Tyranus. You know the price of failure." This almost makes it seem like he does his best work when Sidious is in hologram. Lol. It would have been interesting to see how Abercrombie would have handled that. It may have been less dramatic, albeit more chilling.

His best line in The Lawless was this: "And you are no longer my apprentice! You have been replaced." I enjoy quoting that.

Ian Abercombie did a better job overall .
Tim Curry's Palpatine sounded off , but his Sidious was good.:D
Wonder if Sam Witwer will be voicing The Emperor in Rebels ?

Palpatine likely does not have much a public part to play as he did in TCW, so to contract an actor for a season or more would be a waste of money and time And they could be undecided on what actor to go with for any cameos. Palpatine during this era has largely retreated from the general public, contempory appearences are likely rare, they probably use his Chancellor era images. If he was injured by his own lightning as ROTS has it, then his injuries could be influencing his overall health. Plus he's a Sith first, and Emperor 2nd, so day to day duties and functions of the Empire are left to his cronies like the Grand Vizier and other advisors who may or may not be Force sensitive agents of his(like they were in EU/Legends) and the military junta led by Tarkin really control Empire and replaced senators whom are largely ceremonial , for show ect.

Yea, I was more referring to season 1. What they do now is anybody's guess I suppose. They could've changed directions with Season 2 and give larger parts to characters they said they werent gonna use or use as frequent - like Vader.

I really don't care if the voices match what the actors did in the films or not. I mean, Lanter never sounded remotely like Hayden to me. He actually sounds more "mature"/older to me than Hayden. But he did a good job in his own right, to the point that when I think of Anakin's voice, Lanter's comes to mind now (for me) more so than Christensen's.

I don't really care that Curry sounds nothing like McDiarmid. Having said that, I think his Chancellor Paplatine voice was weird, just because it sounded more evil. The voice is too deep and doesn't really convey that approachable, benevolent impression that Palpatine gives off when maintaining the facade of the good natured Chancellor. But I loved Curry's Sidious - even more than Abercrombie's. Abercrombie nailed the Chancellor voice, but as Sidious, he still just sounded like the Chancellor. Curry had a better voice IMO for the deeper, more menacing voice of Sidious. I'm not judging them based on matching what came before. I mean, there definitely needs to be an element of that, but if the voice fits the character, sometimes they can get away with a voice that doesn't sound like the actor. Again, looking at Lanter as the most notable example. I think Curry could get away with portraying Sidious, but not the Chancellor.

Ian Abercrombie was the best. He nailed it in both personalities, and I still miss him.

Tim Curry's not bad, but he doesn't sound much like Palpatine when he's the Chancellor. When he's the Dark Lord of the Sith is when he really shines (then again, Tim Curry has played a lot of villains, and the Sidious persona showing up more in the later seasons was probably why they chose him as Abercrombie's successor). If he voices him in Rebels, I think Tim will be at home there since the Sidious persona is the most prominent at that point in time.

Ian Abercrombie was good, but he never really convinced me as either Palpatine or Sidious.

Tim Curry was a terrible Palpatine - he sounded too evil and not different enough from Sidious. But his Sidious...oooh baby. So deliciously evil.

For that reason alone I voted Tim.

I couldn't concur more vis-a-vis Anakin. When I think of Anakin, I always think of Lanter's voice. Going back to the live-action films has grown weird, to say the least, given that Hayden really ought to sound like Lanter. (I'm not a Hayden basher, but Lanter won me over.)

I won't argue that Curry is great as Sidious in hologram or Sidious in Yoda's visions. But I honestly believe that Ambercrombie's best line possibly was the "replaced" speech.

It was pretty much a given that Abercrombie would be the overall favorite on the voice of Palpatine/Sidious. But in reality, I don't think it's really fair to have a poll like this. If Abercrombie were still alive, he'd continue to be the voice. It's not as if they chose one over the other.

But every time I see the credits for Lawless it makes me a bit sad.

    I'll say Ian.

I didn't like Tim's Palpatine. However, his Sidious wasn't bad IIRC but it's been awhile. Also we only saw, well heard him in a few episodes.
