Well its like with Witwer's Maul, he did a very good job but to me Peter Serafinowicz IS MAUL. All the SW voice cast is obviously talented, so I guess doesnt matter for me. Tim Curry was always obnoxious, his roles, but he did a good job as Palpatine/Sidious as Ian's replacement. Likely only thing that which would preclude him from returning is his health.

Peter Serafinowicz never had much material to work with though. At least Witwer actually got to have a few converastions with other characters.

His voice personified the character from the very first moment he spoke onscreen. Same reason where you can get other actors to voice Vader, and quite a few have(not saying they were bad), but its not the same you know. Witwer also credited channeling Serafinowicz in his version of Maul, so even to him he also tried to capture something very close to his.

He did the tie in poem:

Serafinowicz also returned as Maul in 2005's Battlefront:

Now we have to create a new thread : Darth Maul : Peter Serafinowicz vs Sam Witwer :D
Serafinowicz nailed the menacing voice and presence of Maul ;while Witwer portrayed these various stages of Maul in The Clone Wars well/great (although his insane spider apparatus Maul and full of revenge Maul in Brothers and Revenge seemed off at the beginning I understood it as Maul's evolution in the series and from Revival up to The Lawless he did a spectacular job full of memorable lines in the series )

    OK ...enough Maul talk.
I have to say that it was wonderful to hear Ian Abercrombie as Palpatine and Sidious in the Return of Clovis arc again.
As for Tim Curry his best performance as Palpatine IMO was in The Wrong Jedi and as Sidious IMO in Orders and Sacrifice .

PS: Corey Burton vs Christopher Lee as Count Dooku :p(OK I'm kidding alright)

I didn't even realize Tim Curry voiced Palpatine in TCW. Guess I didn't pay much attention, because I didn't even notice the voice change.

I think Sam Witwer does the best Palpatine though. Witwer did a bunch of voices on TCW so having him come back in Rebels doesn't seem like a huge stretch.

He loves doing it so it's not like he would say no.

I noticed the way Curry handled the voice affected how the animators choose to deal with Sidious Palpatine. It's subtle, and they tried to remain consistent with the Ambercrombie Sidious Palpatine, but the over-the-topness or the lack of subtlety sometimes shows. It's not a bad thing. The stories in Seasons 5 and 6 are dark as heck, so one can forgive it, I suppose.

I guess I'm a nerd about it. I was misdiagnosed with Asperger's in 1996 and 2003. They later found out that the first time was actually a result of my grief for the loss of my grandmother and the second time was my grief after being physically hurt by someone. Part of it was being an only child who was raised by two nice ladies at church while my own parents just...weren't there while I was an adolescent. Sorry. I don't mean to make this about me. I'm trying to explain why I pay attention to people's body language/facial expressions more than most people would. Anyhow, regarding animation, I do appreciate the subtlety and realism of how some characters' facial expressions were depicted in TCW.

Well, I can tell the difference between Curry Sidious/Palpatine and Abercrombie Sidious/Palpatine. I feel weird saying that. Lol. Also, I know some people complained that the cloaked Sidious looked more feminine or androgyne in TCW. But that's part of why I liked it. Lol.

I think they tried to make him feline and completely unnatural at the same time. Their template was an archetype of evil, talking Palpatine's look mind you - right to his hair shaped like Devils horns and dark circles under the eyes ect. The "Sith-eyes" are selective at will apparently, as under the hood as Sidious he has the darkside eyes.
