Jango Fett fought AotC Obi-Wan - who had yet to peak - to a standstill... with a ships turbolasers to back him up. And with Obi-Wan in "capture not kill" mode. And when he was trying to actively kill his opponent. And on home ground.

It's certainly not an Obi-Wan victory, but nor is it an indication that Obi-Wan and Jango are remotely equal. :p

But, yes, I do think Jango/Boba could probably take out Grievious.

Edit: Oh, this has already been discussed. Kinda. Nevermind, then.

Like jedimarine, I'd always thought Boba was intended as a Jedi-killer, long before I'd ever heard of Karen Traviss. I'm thinking part of this might be misinterpreted speculation from pre-AotC, when people thought a Mandalorian clone army was fighting against the Jedi. But that's the impression I've always had.

The funny thing is, Boba Fett was never called a Jedi-killer nor was it ever written that he was. It is a fanon buildup due to his bad@ss reputation. I doubt Boba Fett ever killed any Jedi due to his young age when the majority of Jedi still existed and how quickly the Jedi were "purged". Its only documented that he went after Mace Wendu, Obi-Wan, and Ferus Olin.

Boba Fett's reputation is so big that if he had somehow found a crimson lightsaber, people in the SW Universe would think he killed a Sith Lord as well.

On a side note, the thought that he would proudly wear children Jedi hair braids on his shoulder is pretty laughable. Mando's pride themselves on defeating worthy opponents....a Padawan is not. I'm glad the Padawan braids are nothing more than fanon.

People think Boba Fett never killed Jedi?

    Please.

Back in the day, he killed a hundred Jedi in the space of an hour!

    How, you ask?

Uh uh. A Mandalorian never reveals his methods.

(But, for the curious, he's willing to reveal that that particular incident involved a barrel of kerosene, a book of matches, and access to the basement of the Happy Home for Orphaned Force-Sensitive Toddlers...)

This was one of the things that I found most galling about Revelation, having Boba Fett portrayed as one of the biggest Jedi Killers ever, and how Jaina was practically on her knees begging for tips on how to fight Jedi so she'll have a better chance at taking on her brother. Boba is probably skilled enough to fight Jedi, but so far we still don't have one recorded instance of Boba actually taking down a Jedi. Unless you count all the clones as Boba too, and those kills were all so skillful, what usually consisted of at least a dozen armed clones against sneak attacking a lone Jedi. And once the sneak attack element was over, the clones couldn't really touch Obi-wan or Yoda at the Jedi Temple.

And yeah, that Obi-wan to Boba comparison isn't really accurate or fair, considering its saying AOTC Obi-wan is the same as RotS Obi-wan, and that because Jango fought Obi-wan sorta to a standstill (though I personally feel that Obi-wan was winning and that Jango was running away, and that was with Boba shooting ship lasers at Obi-wan) Boba's superior to Grevious.

I wish they could've actually cited one name, or even instance, of Boba even fighting a Jedi. Then again, I might've missed somehing, as I only glanced through that LotF book only quickly, as repeated readings make me want to puke. But I do remember clearly that so far no one's been able to confirm any Jedi kills on Boba's part.

Anyway, we also have Han takng Boba down a few notches a couple of times. Does that mean Han could defeat Grevious in combat? And Boba's been thrown into the sarlacc how many times? I still think one of the iconic Boba Fett moments is him getting whacked by a blind guy and falling into the sarlacc in the movie. Not to mention how many other times Han's managaed to escape from Boba Fett or leave him crashing into something.

Anyway, I haven't read many Jango comics, but in the AotC movies, it just looks Jango shot faster than a Jedi Council member could defend against, no special fighting techniques, but just pure skill. Though Mace relatively easily killed Jango a few minutes later. Although that had been after Jango had been run over, but still. Too bad Caedus can't actually get around to killing Boba, but its not like Caedus has managed to kill anyone evil or annoying anyway, even when they get in his way (Alema, for instance).

The way he went after Luke in ROTJ without a second's hesitation (and frankly, did alot better than his dad did in AOTC against Obi-Wan) always sort of implied to me that Boba's tangled with Jedi before.

'Oh, you cut my gun in half? Here, let me tie you up."

Which rope Luke didn't deal with until Boba was on the ground after a clumsily-placed shot from Jabba's goons.

    And, almost forgot:

He tangled with a pair of Dark Jedi in DE2. Don't believe he killed them, but he certainly survived the encounter.

A cash-strapped thirteen-year-old make use of what he has. [face_mischief]

And why not? Mandalorians have millenia of experience fighting Force-users without benefit of the Force themselves, so they must have some useful advice. ;)

    Why take chances?

Given that they seem to have lost all co-ordination at the time (no use of cover, covering fire, flanking maneuvers, just politely attack the two Jedi Masters one at a time, running up to them so that their meleee weapons are given full advantage), I'd attribute that to character-shield induced temporary stupidity. :p

Well, I personally feel that any bog-standard Supercommando is superior to Grievous. How about that? :)

    Likewise.

The iconic Fett moments are just about any time he appears in ESB. His appearance in RotJ is by contrast about as iconic as Jar-Jar Binks's defeat of the Trade Federation droid forces. [face_talk_hand]

Well then, you need to read some Jango Fett comics.

The sad thing is that until recently, Boba Fett wasn't really that much of a Mandalorian. Sure, he has the armor, and the skills, but he didn't socialize, and Jango was killed before Boba could be fully educated. I know, Mandalorian children at age 14 are adults, or are supposed to be warriors (what with Ben fantasizing about being a Mandalorian in one third of the series), but I also remember Boba having next to no clue about Mandalorian culture.

And what's galling is that while it was Mandalorian armor and crushgaunts that helped Jag take down Alema, at long last, there was a more important component- Jag's brains. Jag's the one who came up with the idea of rigging his blaster to blow up if someone Force yanks it from him, that wasn't a Mandalorian trick.

I'm not saying Boba Fett isn't skilled. He is, I don't dispute that. Its just annoying that Jaina has to go across the galaxy for lessons when most her extended family and friends are made up of some of the most skilled veterans of the Rebellion.

And how can Boba Fett's death not be iconic? Well, his death in the movie, as he just keeps blasting his way out of that sarlacc in the EU. Maybe he should set up a vacation home in there, by now. And yeah, he did look very cool in ESB, but you'd think a person's death scene should be iconic too.

And if we're on the subject of taking chances, might as well just blow up the planet a Jedi is on with a Death Star rather than going into combat against them. Why take chances? Why bother to have skills when pushing a button will do the job faster?

And the clones had some distance from Obi-wan and Yoda, its just that Yoda and Obi-wan were advancing forward much faster than the clones could back up, especially given how fast that little green gnome can move when he wants to.

Oh well, back to the original topic, we still don't have Boba killing a Jedi in combat yet. And burning down an orphanage sure takes a lot of skill of course. Maybe if Boba shot a twitching Jedi corpse that would count as a kill?

Jango Fett took out Jedi like he was taking out the garbage. Please see Open Seasons for reference. He killed seven Jedi with some snow, a rock, and his freaking bare hands. He survived a fight with Obi-Wan Kenobi, who, might I remind you, killed Darth Maul as a Padawan, survived two duels with Dooku, killed Grievous, and, oh yeah, maimed Vader and left him for dead. He completely pwned a member of the Jedi Council. Yes, he was killed by Mace Windu, but, seriously, how many people ever survived combat with Mace Windu?

Boba's known record is less impressive, but he still managed to fight and survive against Darth vader, so let's presume he's no slouch, and if he's even as good as his father, he would have had no problem racking up Jedi kills even as a teenager during the post-Order 66 Purge.

And, to be fair... he was operating under the assumption his jetpack was working.

If he'd *known* it was bust, he might have tried ducking.

    Yes, and...?

Easy there, ner burc'ya, it might very well have been. ;)

I say again: The Mandalorians have millenia of experience combatting Jedi and Sith both, and all without the use of the Force. It's not unreasonable to say that they might have some interesting tricks to offer a Jedi looking to confront a Sith Lord that that Sith Lord would not expect from a Jedi.

Perhaps because it wasn't a death scene? [face_whistling]

For the same reason you deploy mousetraps to clear your house of rodents rather than turning on the gas and sticking a newspaper in the toaster, I would imagine. :p

No... Obi-Wan and Yoda aren't really moving in the sense of advancing during the scene, let alone "much fast than the Clones could back up". It's the Clones who are advancing on them, while they move back and forth attacking.

"Yet" being the operative word, of course.

It's probably also due in part to Lucas and AOTC. On the commentary Lucas remarks that Jango's death is the future motivation for Boba's character. This implies a retcon of Boba as Jedi-killer. Unfortunately, there is really nothing in the OT to suggest that Boba has any special hatred or animosity toward the Jedi. I dimly recall the OT-era rumors about Boba's backstory and how he wore the armor of a group of commandos from the Clone Wars ( who may have fought against the Jedi ). However, I don't think there was anything about Boba being a Jedi-killer himself. I thought the braids were supposed to be from Wookiees.

There are the Marvel comics, which have Boba Fett (later retconned into Spar) as the leader of the 212 Mandalorian Supercommandos, all but three of whom were eventually killed in battle against the Jedi in the Clone Wars, which to me always suggested that he must have killed a fair number of Jedi given his ultimate survival where nearly all of his comrades eventually died.

Yeah, but Spar had more training than Boba ended with. And anyway, from True Colors etc. it seems Spar's role as a leader of Mandos is being toned down a good bit.

I always wanted Spar to escape entirely on his own, and it seems that's not going to happen either :/

Did he? So far as I know, they were both personally trained by Jango for a total of ten years.

Yeah, I'm just saying that Fenn's account in the Marvel comics always suggested the image of Boba Fett as a hardened Jedi fighter to me.

    Likewise.

Hopefully I'll live to see the day Daniel Logan or whoever is playing Boba Fett gets to kill Jedi too. I knew it was going to happen the minute Burtt's 1st rumors about the SW live action series was that Fett's going to be in it.

On the other hand using the process of elimination...Zuckuss was in the Crimson Nova serving bounties on contract for the Bounty Hunters Guild, a guild that boasted Boba Fett as it's go to guy for it's most high profile & dangerous bounties. If the Bounty Hunters Guild gave the bounty on Kai Justiss to the 3 member team of Zuckuss, Boushh & Mika, then they had to fight off Boba Fett in order to collect on that bounty just like alot of other bounty hunters have had to do on their own hunts as documented in books like the Bounty Hunter Wars, Tales of the Bounty Hunters & Tales of the Empire. Crimson Nova didn't get Kai Justiss, so in all probability Fett did. It's also been documented that Fett has at least 6 prisoner cages aboard Slave 1, some of them are force cages like the kind used on Mandalorian Dungeon ships like the one that was used to bring Luke Skywalker to Byss in Dark Empire. And then Boba Fett has & without the force knows how to use a lightsaber.

There's lots of written implication that Boba Fett has hunted & killed Jedi. The Bounty Hunters Guild serves Jedi contracts as does the Empire, he hunts everyone. Fett has force cages on his ship, he's a practical man that would not waste space on his ship that he wasn't planning on using, so he has captured & delivered live Jedi to either the Inquisitorious, Jabba or whoever. He's used a lightsaber to defend himself against Vader & can offensively counter a lightsaber user by other means as when he binded up Luke with his wrist-rope thingy.

It's more than enough implication for me, I believe that he's the Jedi killer that Jaina believes him to be. Now I've just got to hang around for a couple of years so that I can see G.Lucas & B. Burtt make it happen. Even tho Karen Traviss' resurgency of the Fett myth probably means that her or some other author will write about Boba Fett killing Jedi before the TV show airs.

Spar escaped a bit before the Clone Wars, but yeah. Boba saw a bit of actual combat with Jango, but not very much compared to what the ARCs were going through, I suspect.

I assume you mean after he grew up since the one time he did face Grievous, the cyborg almost killed him.

Technically a clumsily placed shot that Luke deflected in Fett's direction.

Not that they really used much in the way of tactics beyond "surround them and fire all at once" in the first place. I don't recall seeing any of the 501st using cover when they went to the Temple.

No, but we only see a very short clip of them fighting in the Temple and there they at least appear to be trying to flank their targets to prevent them from using their lightsaber deflection to the best effect.

Well, the purge did last decades and think the Empire did use bounty hunters freely...so I think Boba Fett probably would have killed at least one.

I mean, plenty of jedi were killed by B-1 "roger, Roger" battle droids...granted who knows how many of those jedi managed to last through the clone wars, but still...

But you see...that quote above is just the continued fanon speculation because we have built up Boba Fett as this massive bad@ss. Until there is 100% proof either written and/or mentioned in an interview, its safe to say that Boba Fett has yet to actually kill a Jedi.

And when it comes to Boba Fett having a lightsaber collection......well, Sano Sauro has a lightsaber in his office (unconfirmed to be Mace Windu's), but he never killed a Jedi far as we know.

I didn't dispute that. I think we did see some of them trying to flank Obi-Wan and Yoda. I mentioned that we never see them ever utilizing cover, which was one of the things you mentioned. Not that I remember anyway. Though it's possible if someone were to analyze that scene they might see one or more doing it.

Besides, moving to surround their targets is flanking them.

And Count Dooku has a case of lightsabers in his office, or whatever, all of them from Jedi killed by Jango. ;)

While running into close proximity with them.

    *sigh*

I would assume so. I know the 501st seem to make fairly good use of cover on Endor and Hoth, at least.

I don't think it is... at least not as far as the definition goes. It's not really the most effective tactic either, when your troops are all armed with ranged weapons and risk shooting each other if the surrounded enemy doesn't simply surrender.
