DC Universe Streaming Service Reportedly Being Reevaluated

 

Mannnnnn, if it goes away before I get a chance to see Doom Patrol...

 

Marvel - Netflix = Disney+
DC + Netflix = Netflix+ ?

 

Sounds complicated over at DC.
Has been for awhile now.

Yet they have such great characters to work with. The best in the genre.

Hopefully they will work it out.

 

Well, okay -- so this may be part of a larger restructure, which may be "okay." As in "getting rid of HBO Now" as well kind of restructure. IF they outright can DC Universe ahead of that though... man, that's crap.

It's unclear (paywall) if they plan on including DC Universe stuff in here, but it would at least either make sense or be thematically consistent.

 

I hope the DC Universe ends up part of the WarnerMedia streaming service so I can cancel my HBO package with DirecTV, as that package is costing $12/month IIRC. Having the DC Universe part of it would definitely make me sign up for the WarnerMedia service because I'm holding onto HBO for the upcoming seasons of Big Little Lies and Watchmen, among other things.

Folding everything into a single service makes too much sense for them to not do. A dedicated DC streaming service always struck me as too niche to compete. Even with access to the digital versions of some comics (I wonder if they'll keep that in a combined service) it was going to be too thin on content to have a large continuous subscriber base. And original content will be the ammo in the oncoming streaming war.

 

Not an exact thread match, but this was seen during the pre-show title cards before Thursday's "Rifftrax Live" presentation...

SPOILER ALERT:

I know the purists would revolt over that and the "Gender bending? Not in my comic book movie!" crowd would pile in right behind 'em BUT ...

... if you're looking to bring a bit of what Michael Caine did to the role but with a different sort of twist than what Jeremy Irons provided, that's actually kinda brilliant. I mean they'd never do it, but I'd find seeing how that would play out very intriguing going into the movie.

 

Other than her age (which, I hope like Notorious RBG she never dies), I think Dame Maggie Smith is brilliant...

 

I hope that Doom Patrol will survive the reevaluation as it is, in my opinion, one of the best comic book tv series.

 

Because of the times, would gender bending Alfred making her a maid or house keeper than a butler? Not that it really matters. If there's a Alfred gender bender, I'd put my vote for Emma Thompson.

If Alfred would remain a male character, I'd cast Clive Owens, mostly because I haven't seen him in anything new in a long while. If Alfred to be a badass, I'd vote Liam Neeson. However, I think the perfectly cast Alfred would be Colin Firth because of his performance as Harry Hart/Galahad in Kingsman: The Secret Service.

 

Well no she wouldn't be a butler. Whatever works really, though maid or housekeeper both seem beneath her pay grade. Maybe the Wayne's had a small household and grounds staff that she oversaw, doubled as a governess when Bruce was younger, stayed on after his parents were killed and the staff was inevitably downsized.

It would be nice if they could cast a Marisa Tomei like actor for Aunt Harriet. Kate Beckinsale is too young at 45, but Elizabeth Hurley at 54 could work.

 

Cool. Sounds like DC's answer to Logan. From the trailer, Joker appears to be really character driven, unlike most of their previous films where the plot drives the character forward. I'm so looking forward to this movie.

 

What I'm sure will be welcome news to a lot of folks ...
