Word on the street is that the movie is extremely violent and gory. Some say that's the reason the review embargo only will be lifted a couple days before its release.

So I guess that's where the R rating comes from. As I mentioned in the "Last movie" thread, I saw the new Hellboy movie, and the violence and gore certainly didn't save that movie from being a good one. We'll see where BOP goes with it.

So they made the movie thinking it would attract 50,000 people. Okay.

I've seen the name Tarantino evoked by some to describe the violence.

I'm just planning on seeing the movie on a bargain Tuesday at the local theater after work.

Here's Matt Reeves tweet from last day commemorating the official start of production:

And here's the press release Warner Bros. released this morning doing the same:

yknow I always thought "The Batman" was a development title from back when Ben Affleck was supposed to be writing/directing/starring and I guess it stuck.

So I am guessing obviously it isn't going to be in the DCEU continuity and not in the Joker continuity so that's basically we got 3 DC verses in movies happening at once (plus the TV multiverse and the DCEU just brushed shoulders for those who missed it).

Movie Flash isn't called Flash so next time we see him if he's called Flash he totes got his name from TV Flash which is awesome. Also apparently Movie Flash and Cyborg are still working together. And this Movie Flash doesn't know about the Speed Force but hit it anyway and was all confused. (I'd like to this this happened concurrently with the "Am I too soon?" seen from BvS)

Can't we just pretend Batman v Superman and Justice League never happened so this can be Batman's introduction to the DCEU? :p

I would but Aquaman, Flash and Wonder Woman and Harley Quinn are still running around. Continuity must be maintained!

Unless someone in one of the movies has a throwaway line about multiverse dopelgangers, I would actually be totally okay with that.

I don't actually think they'll officially decanonize those films but they could certainly decide to ignore the continuity issues resulting from recasts and carry on with the new Batman and Alfred and Gordon as if they were always there. Recasts do happen even in the MCU.

That'd be some super lose continuity recasting though cuz Batman in BvS explicitly states he's been around for years and this is a early crimefighting days deal as far as I know. They can just bring them together when the movies hit Crisis on Infinite Earths in like 5 years maybe, hahahha. I mean I wouldn't be opposed if they just slotted in the new The Batman cast into the larger DCEU but it would be a bit of a head scratcher moreso than just plain ole recasting. Of course, the DCEU being too concerned about continuity and larger plans is what got us Justice League being so continuity strict anyway (and freakin' Steppenwolf as the villain cuz they had to "save" Darkseid or some such nonsense) and they certainly aren't playing by those roles anymore.

Yeah, but judging from the set pics it looks like The Batman is set in the early to mid 2000s so it actually fits perfectly.

Huh that could work but Bruce literally says "20 years in Gotham, Alfred." in BvS which does imply he's been at the Batman gig for 2 decades by then but really just quibbling right now. Although I'd happily do some retcon No Prize hoops if anyone else from the DCEU shows up in The Batman.

Anyway, I still haven't seen Harley Quinn Thursday the 6th tix on sale yet and the Thursday showtimes seem to be posted already which is bugging me, I'm like 90% certain it would have Thursday shows. But the site I'm looking at cineplex.com in Canada was only updated on the app and not on the website yet.

I'm pretty positive it's set in the present day, and the older model vehicles used for the police/news vans are just a representation of how poorly Gotham is doing.

Either way, it would be pretty hard for this to sync up with BvS/JL unless Jeffrey Wright somehow turns into J.K. Simmons :p

So I’ve watched Joker, and I did like it quite a bit. It did make me watch a Heath Ledger solo Joker film, but that is not its fault. As a Joker origin, it’s nice.

I mean it was a common enough interior decorating choice back in that time period. My grandmother had a reproduction of The Blue Boy hanging in her living room (and still does) going all the way back to the mid 70's. But yeah that's a nice catch on the part of the set designer.

Rented Joker a few weeks ago. Liked it a lot! kind of interested in birds of prey, but I don't like the costuming at all. None of them really look enough like the characters for me. Also still hate the Suicide Squad desIgn for Harley, despite thinking Margot is perfect. Hope the movie is good and I can look past those aspects however.

Looks like the preliminary reviews for BOP are coming in, and as I expected they're not good at all. But that's still not gonna deter me from seeing it in the theater. Nothing in the movie's trailers was screaming Oscar contender.
