I can't wait to hear where and when they use that John Williams cue in the movie.

I promised my wife I would wait until I got home from work so we can watch it together, so right now I'm living vicariously through all of you. The reaction I've seen online so far has been glowing, though.

I like how they're just going for it and using it. Even if only a little. There's no point in denying that that is Superman's theme. We all know it. We all hum it. Trying to redo just makes us miss it.

It's only clicking for me just now that even the trailer text is meant to evoke the streaking expansion effect from the title sequences of the Donner films. Rest of the trailer looks great too :).

@PymParticles You have strong will power.

I did enjoy the new trailer, but I think I found the teaser more impactful and teared up every time I watched it initially.

I know James Gunn didn't know how to tackle the character and then figured out how to come at it. My
is that the big question the movie poses is "what/who does Superman stand for?" Is he a "Homelander" type where he fights for America and answers to the President of the United States? It appears not. He stands for truth, justice, and what is right.

I love the trailer and its amazing. This movie is a billion dollar movie at the box office and possibly one of the biggest hits of the year.

    Lois: Ready?
    Clark: Let's do it, Cronkite.
    Lois: Superman?
    Superman (leans forward): Miss Lane.

    @TiniTinyTony
Yes, but Gunn also stated that Superman will not shy away from his "Americanness" like he did some in Superman Returns. Perhaps a happy medium when it comes to that.

@vong333 Superman has never been a huge box office draw internationally, and even here (domestically) it's never been a true mega hit. Here is where each Superman full length theatrical release is ranked in terms of box office returns the year it came out:

Superman: #2 (lost out to Grease, what a different world that was!)
Superman II: #3 (Behind Raiders of the Lost Ark, and On Gold Pond....again, what a different world that was)
Superman III: #12 (Behind films like Tears of Endearment, Flashdance, Sudden Impact, Mr. Mom etc)
Superman IV: #69 (I had to go looking for it as it was just behind Over the Top...yes, that Over the Top!):

    Superman Returns: #6
    Man of Steel: #5
    Batman vs Superman: #8
    Justice League: #10

So, other than Superman '78 and Superman II, none of the previous Superman films have broken into the Top 5 domestic (Man of Steel came the closest at #5 that year) and even with not a strong slate this year, I am not sure it will be able to break into the Top 3-4. Minecraft has already thrown up a $400 million domestic number, and I am honestly not sure it will beat out even Fantastic Four. Younger audiences, IMHO, will gravitate more towards Jurassic World and FF than Superman this summer.

Not only has there never been a major market for Superman flicks internationally, but given the geopolitical state of the world right now, I don't see many markets pining for a Superman film since he is kind of wrapped in the American flag. And that is assuming the film is even released in that country. Thanks to a certain person, China might say, "No, it's not going to be released here," though the Chinese market would not be interested in the film anyway, at least in terms of a major box office return.

So, I think a billion-dollar return worldwide is highly improbable. It would have to do something truly crazy here, like a $500 million domestic return, to even be in the discussion. And even then, it might not be enough.

@DarkGingerJedi It fits well with the place he is supposed to be.
As far as I understand, it isn't a true origin story, but he hasn't been on the job long. It's similar to The Batman.

Eh... you're presenting a well reasoned case, but I think there are a few flaws in that thinking. For one, Jurassic World has seen diminishing returns film-over-film, particularly internationally, and apart from Deadpool & Wolverine which was being propelled by star power, the MCU has been on a significant downturn since Endgame/Far From Home. Only two movies have cracked a billion since then, and that's between the aforementioned D&W and a Spider-Man move with two previous actors appearing, so it's almost cheating. Besides that, more than a few have underperformed significantly at the box office.

We could assume that FF will be different, since there's positive buzz around it, but then we'd have to make the same argument for Superman, which it seems there's more positive buzz for overall... and that's ignoring the fact that no Fantastic Four movie has ever breached $333 million, and it can't rely on the same degree of MCU goodwill pushing it as it could have 10 years ago.

Man, I can't stop watching this trailer. I wasn't floored on my first viewing (and really, it's hard for trailers to wow me anymore), but the more I watch it, the more I find to love. I have absolutely no doubts that Gunn has hit a home run here. I hope it's a box office hit that the Superman character so very much deserves.

    It's worth it.

Which is accurate to the Post Crisis stories. Particularly, "Year One" and the flashbacks in "Crisis At Hand".

@Luke02 The Donner film had most of its box office haul from 1979, whereas "Grease" was already done by then. The second film had knocked Indy from the number one position for three weeks. "Superman Returns" did struggle, yes. MOS and BvS were the only ones to be released in the era of billion dollar blockbusters. They also have the problem of being lousy films that had huge drop offs.

So are we going into this assuming Lois knows Clark is Superman?

Or is this a trick...Clark is standing in for "Superman" as Lois practices her interview questions on him.

He's not wearing the glasses, which is traditionally the visual cue.

I'm sure it was stated that Lois & Clark have already been dating for a while by the time the movie starts, so presumably he has already told her?

Unsure...looked like we saw a child Clark on the farm...so perhaps we are getting an abbreviated origin story or flashback?

It does feel like people know Superman is a thing, at least.

Just watched it a few times in a row. It looks incredible.. like a Superman comic, the kind with meaty ties to the rest of the DCU, brought to life. The tone is perfect, some of the action shots look nuts, I love the look and feel of the cinematography, costuming and production design, and I adored the back-and-forth between Lois and Clark Superman during their interview, which is a scene Gunn seems particularly proud of since he's mentioned it in interviews a few times.

They’re finally capturing on the big screen for modern audiences the fact that Superman is a regular guy, with complex emotions and motivations.

And not just a guy who loves Lois.

Jesus… I’m emotional AF because he’s my favorite character in comic book history and his humanity is never captured in the movies.

The scene where he gets frustrated with Lois’ questions…
