So, to be fair, the Emily Blunt joining the film rumors are going around the 'net and no one knows why; a lot of people speculated Catwoman and it's likely bogus. Basically, the whole thing is likely bogus but it's not Diggy's doing. :p

She's been in "The 5 Year Engagement", "Edge Of Tomorrow" and "Charlie Wilson's War" to name a few.

Diggy, I'm sure you probably didn't see her in The Devil Wears Prada or Looper either.

I thought she was awesome in Looper as she had that Sarah Conner from T2 feel to her character.

Looks interesting. Some good, others...eh.. unique choices....

A Shazam film right after Bats V Supes? Flash and Green Lantern looks to be nice, out of the box thinking, although it should be the classic Green Arrow/Green Lantern.

Poor Aquaman. He gets tacked onto everything as an after-thought.

I don't know how creditable this Nikki Finke person is.

From what Kevin Smith had suggested a few weeks ago, is that DC/WB will just be making Justice League flicks for the next six years. Many people bought into the reports the Dawn of Justice and the follow up film are being shot back-to-back based on the shooting schedule.

EDIT: I did some Googling to find out who this Nikki Finke person is, and she appears to be a creditable Hollywood reporter/blogger. Her list of upcoming films is somewhat on par of the rumors of a Shazam and Sandman films that were rumored to be in the works a few weeks ago. I do find it interesting that there isn't a Batman flick on the schedule.

I still think it's kind of funny that DC sued Fawcett for Captain Marvel being too close to Superman, and in the period when it was on hiatus, Marvel trademarked Captain Marvel, so when DC re-acquired the rights, Captain Marvel officially became Shazam, which probably more people thought was his name anyway. That is, unless that entire story is just a rumor.

Anyway, I think a Shazam movie could be decent, but it would have to play up the more mystic nature of Captain Marvel's er Shazam's abilities. Actually, if anyone has caught some reruns of the 1970's Shazam tv show, that would be a solid premise to build upon the character. Obviously, some of the dated elements like travelling around in an old Winnebago would have to go, but the character was quite good.

Technically he was still Captain Marvel up until, like, last year, they just couldn't call his books that.

Never been one of my favorite characters.

The Kingdom Come version was interesting in an neurotic/sacrificial sense that was all the rage then. Giffen's take was funny in the JLA. But the idea that he kept Billy's personality in a huge adult body ala the superhero version of Big got old rather quickly. Otherwise, not very familiar with the character.

Has there ever been a version where he can only use one ability at a time, or has it always been an "all or nothing" effect once he calls out Shazam? It would be an interesting take that if he was using the "wisdom of Solomon," then he couldn't use strength and so on. In other words, only letter at a time instead of gaining all of them at once.

    The story is true.

I'm going to pull out my old man card and tell you kids that back in my day there was a tv show called Shazam! and that's how I was introduced to the character; as Shazam and not Captain Marvel.

Anyway, Marvel's Captain Marvel is pronounced as Mar - Vell.

I'm still not sure why DC/WB would want a Shazam flick since his power set is very similar to Superman. I mean, it's borderline redundant.

True, but I think it's more along the lines of the "The Brave & The Bold" mini-series from the late 90's and the "Justice League" episode of the same name.

Nope, that is 100% true. By 1949, Captain Marvel was outselling Superman by a wide margin and though it has never been verified, the lawsuit was National's way of getting rid of the competition. Due to certain similarities with the power set, basic facial appearances and extended family, DC was able to make their case. In the aftermath of the cancellation of Captain Marvel, a new attempt at reworking the character was made. You know him best as Marvelman/Miracleman. The changes in editorial in the 70's as well as upper management is why the characters were licensed and then outright purchased by DC.

DC began shifting the name around in 2006 with the "Trials Of SHAZAM" mini-series which had Freddy Freeman, aka Captain Marvel Jr., take over as the main Captain Marvel and use the name Shazam rather than Captain Marvel Jr., which lasted for the duration of the Post "Infinite Crisis" DCU. Starting with the reboot in 2011, Billy would be known as Shazam when he changed rather than Captain Marvel.

Billy has always had his powers all at once. However, during "The Trials Of SHAZAM", Freddy had to earn the right to regain each part of his powers in a series of trials since each power came from one of the gods. With the passing of each trial, Freddy regained another power.

DC and WB are going to push the the redesigned heroes more than the classic versions. You'll only see the classics when it comes to certain comics and cartoons being adapted into action figure form.

Which, assuming the rumor is true, and WB/DC is going to do a Shazam movie, what aspect of the character could be focused on differentiate the character from Superman in the movie universe?

There is the physical change aspect instead of simply taking off glasses. Put more of a focus on the classical gods? Shazam's costume has also remained similar throughout his different versions. I like his one shoulder half cape, I wonder how a modern re-design would look?
