And that's the thing....they've never done that in the movies. Donner' Lois jokes about how Superman will have to go after every two-bit politician...but we never see that in those movies.

Movie Lex has always been shown as real estate genius maniac. The tv shows showed him in various other forms (Smallville as his best friend, and as someone who's researching the freaks of the week. Lois and Clark's Lex was a shady businessman, but very campy.)

The most spot on was the animated series.

But in the movies we've never really seen Supes go after corrupt politicians, champion social justice issues, fight billionaires. or face off against a scientist-businessman-presidential dreamer Lex Luthor, who wants to solve humanities problems, and thinks Superman is basically keeping us all from becoming better. Even though he's also corrupt as hell.

As if that wouldn't mirror our own world. lol. (I have a feeling the woke police will be complaining either way though)

Can I just say, a real estate agent is a really stupid villain. Not because they don't do some genuinely awful things. But because they would half the time just end up on Real House Husbands of New York or something.

I'm not sure if this was in reference to my comment or not, but if so, that wasn't what I was trying to say. Allow me to clarify.
I was saying that some of the extreme reaction we're seeing is made up of the worst of many groups.

    1. Some are hardcore Snyderverse fans who've campaigned for years to have it restored, and that hope's finally been dashed. So, that accounts for SOME of the anger.

    2. Then you have people who are hardcore Cavill fans, who want him to remain in the role no matter what. Reboot or not. They've labeled him "Their Superman", and they were going to be angry at any decision that didn't include Cavill continuing as the character. So, that accounts for SOME of the anger.

    3. Then you have people who are angry at the confused way this was handled. They feel like it was an unfair treatment of Cavill, and a generally ham-fisted way of handling the situation. So, that accounts for SOME of the anger.

I am a little bit of each myself.
Someone who didn't hate Snyder's take, though felt it was flawed.
Someone who loved Cavill in the role, and as an actor, in general.
And Someone who thinks this WAS sloppily handled, but I have my suspicions as to how that happened, which would possibly put WB/DC in a better light.

And as far as the "New Hate Faction" comment, that was directed at those I've seen online who are already deciding that this is "ALL JAMES GUNN'S FAULT" and "FIRE JAMES GUNN" commenters. Their response is unfair, uninformed, and unnuanced. It removes responsibility from any other parties involved, ignores the simple possibility of human error without malice, and shifts blame to someone plainly because he's the most publicly known face. This exact type of behavior has been aimed at Kathleen Kennedy on many occasions, for example. It's "lowest common denominator" thinking, and is the internet equivalent of lynch mobs with torches and pitchforks.

So, I hope this clarifies things.

They should just troll everyone by shuffling all the actors around. Henry Cavill is Batman! Ben Affleck is Aquaman! Ray Fisher is Green Lantern! J. K. Simmons is Lex Luthor! Gal Gadot is Zatanna! The Rock is Cyborg! Jason Momoa is Wonder Woman!

So I just saw Black Adam. I honestly don't see what everyone is complaining about. Yes, it was dumb in several ways. But it was not as terrible as the Snyder films. For instance, I am pretty sure he still had a lower kill count than Superman in Man of Steel, while at least he acknowledged his ultra-violence. Also, there was none of the goofy MCU stuff. It was an entirely normal comic book movie that I would easily watch over all the Green Lanterns, Ant Mans, and Thors of the world.

So, I just saw Black Adam. I honestly see what everyone is complaining about. Yes, it was dumb in several ways. It was far more terrible than the Snyder films. For instance, I am pretty sure he still had a higher brain cell kill count than Batman Forever, while at least he acknowledged his ultra-violence to my neurons. Also, there was so much of the goofy "Every Rock movie" stuff. It was an entirely terrible comic book movie that I would easily sacrifice for over all the Supermans, Ant-Mans, and Thors of the world.

At least goofy The Rock stuff happens in-character. I would rather see someone play the exact same character in every media appearance than having them constantly mugging and winking at the fourth wall while refusing to take the plot of their own story seriously.

Thing is I haven't heard anything bad about Black Adam, because I kind of haven't heard much of anything about Black Adam, which is the bigger issue when The Rock was (I think) angling for it to show off how big of a draw he was.

    He is a big draw

    But the character isn't.
Ok the recent Thor movie wasn't that great, but Thor is an established character now so people will go and see it.

Black Adam is not a well known character, add to that the fact it's a meh movie and you can see why people didn't bother

I had fun with BLACK ADAM. I didn't love it, it wasn't great, but most movies aren't. I DID love the portrayals of Hawkman and Doctor Fate (Hawkman was freaking amazing - a shame we won't be seeing more of this version of the character!), and I thought they did a better job with the whole "rookie superheroes" thing than I can remember seeing elsewhere.

The thing I think they struggled with the most was deciding who Black Adam was. I am not in-depth knowledgeable with the comic book version - or should I say VERSIONS since as with many long-running characters he has been portrayed in different ways - but to my memory he was often an outright villain and if not an outright villain he was a mostly villainous, super-arrogant, ruthless, SOB who kinda-sorta cared about "his people" and little else. I think they were going for the latter but were afraid of really REALLY leaning into that, lest he be TOO unsympathetic. And yeah, the villain of the piece really felt mailed in.

But ... I had a reasonably fun time. Like I said, liked the JSA, the action was pretty good, it had moments. I feel like a lot of folks today judge movies in a "LOVE IT / HATE IT" mode -- for me, there is a LOT of room in the middle.

The only thing I enjoyed about it was some of the action, in the way he used his powers. And I don't usually enjoy movies for action scenes. They can be the icing, but not the cake. The movie failed to engage me much past that, and actively annoyed me much of the time. I expected it to be dumb, but fun. Unfortunately, it wasn't nearly fun enough, and I kept checking the time to see how much was left. Something else I seldom do.

Don't mix up the two SS films, the second is very different.

For The Batman, you'll find the three hours go by surprisingly fast.

As a trio that points towards what DC films can be, you can't go wrong.

Agreed on that count. The Suicide Squad is far and away my favourite DCEU film, and to boot I liked it more than any of the contemporaneous MCU Phase 4 films. The Batman, on the other hand, is probably my absolute favourite superhero film ever; I flat out adore every second of its three hours.

I just got done watching Black Adam for the first time. I was pretty meh on the movie as a whole (I neither loved nor hated it), but I did get a pretty big LOL out of that mid-credits stinger since given recent news we now know that will never happen. [face_laugh]
