Yeah, the spoon saucer on it makes me inclined to say it's something totally new and not a refit. That would track with it being a 25th Century-active craft and something with a prestige name and a brand new crew. Even that thick neck being most of the ship couldn't be just a refit (and is closer to something like Voyager at the very least).

Actually makes me feel like it's a step away from Soverign/First Contact-era ships towards the Aventine look.

Good point - the main reason I thought "early" rather than "late" was the fact that the deflector was blue-glowing plain, rather than the bronze-yellow of the Sovereign and Obena.

Making it a "post-Sovereign" design can work as well though.

Also, the new Stargazer shares similar E2-like "spoon suacer with bulk-at0theback impulse deck" elements, so I feel like they're of the same design class era. Though, we haven't seen her deflector dish yet, I don't think, so maybe that could be a distinguishing element.

The Stargazer is supposed to be the lead ship of a new class, and only just commissioned. So the Excelsior II is implied to be slightly older there.

The Ross class is very "Galaxy-Sovereign cross" - probably the immediate successor to the Galaxy class, using Sovereign-type design elements.

Stargazer was first of a class to use Borg tech- doesn't mean the overall design aesthetics can't be of a series of classes that began to be produced prior to it. Kinda like how Intrepid-class had the bio-gel stuff but was otherwise still of that post-Galaxy, pre-Sovereign/FC series of ships like the Nova.

EDIT- And, more on topic to the show, I finally finished 209. Turns out the reason I skipped it wasn't because I accidentally hit a button on the Dualshock 4 or something but, rather, because the P+ PS4 app literally will not play the episode. It gets past the P+ intro screen, pauses on black/CBS production and auto-skips to 210 no matter how you access it.

But I was able to circumvent things by just watching it in-browser on my computer. Very amusing episode premise. The shot of all the off-dury officers in their holodeck costumes, rec outfits and other gear all rushing out at once is an underrated visual.

    Not to mention:

Mariner: "I think it was the chef in the biolab with the sniper rifle that can shoot through walls."
Freeman: "You always pick the chef."
Mariner: "Yeah, because we have replicators! Why is there a chef? That's just shady!"

    [face_laugh]

Plot-wise, is the bomb sold by the Klingons to the Pakleds here the same type used in the explosion that Freeman is accused on in the finale? Haven;t gone back to check yet.

Also neat to see a Vulcan ship in the post-NEM era (though, sadly, keeps the rust color of the ENT era, so goodbye TMP/TNG-era hybrid greys!) and I was half expecting the stinger to have random Starfleet officers beam aboard next to the LD Borg and have the LD Drones be the first wave to get shot before the "officers" get to show up with adapted personal shields ;).

I had noticed the homages (the whole franchise has been going heavy on the TMP rainbow effect the past couple years- hell, even Beyond's posters had homages to it), but not the sequential nature.

EDIT- It would be amusing, if they keep this trend down the road, of dealing with the TNG film posters, which were mainly logo teasers. So they'll basically be 90% Badgey.

so it can run 13 seasons until they run out of Trek movie posters! I am already picturing who is going to emerge menacingly from the delta shaped hole like Khan in the Into Darkness poster in the Lower Decks Season 12 poster.

Wish it was a little bit earlier in August, I'm thinking this will roll right into Prodigy season 1.5 (or is it technically season 2 now?)

    That was a solid premiere.

    A few things I liked
The increasingly, ah, thirsty ladies of the Boimler rasin vinyard were great.

Wonderful to hear James Cromwell as Cochrane again.

I kinda loved that the resolution to Freeman's situation happened off-screen, helped along by Captain Frasier and Tuvok. And all Mariner did with her Search for Spock moment was kick-start an alien space bug orgy and get her butt handed to Ransom. That should be fun this season.

    Poor Gavin.

But most importantly, what colour is Bradward's hair under the purple dye? I hope they drag that mystery out forever.

Yah the reversals were great and the fact that a way cooler epic adventure happened while the Lower Deck-ers were screwing around with hologram Zephram Cochrane and lusty bugs is kind of hilarious. Also at Historical Bosemont people got to wear the weird looking Cochrane hats, and having Cromwell voice him as sort of a static hologram guide was kind of gold.

    "He's like my grandpa!"
    "He's everyone's grandpa!"

Not this episode yet but I already can't wait for the Strange New Worlds crossover episode

Fun premiere! This show needs to go on forever so that that opening title sequence battle scene gets more and more ridiculous! [face_laugh]

Sacrifice of Angels? Pfft! I raise you Lower Decks Season 13 Title Sequence! ;)

"Ketracel White-Hot" was also very funny. As was the inspird theme park guest pilot.

There's something awkward about being enough of a ST fan to have seen every episode of every single live-action and animated series at least once, but not enough to remember every single thing they've ever done, and it's really weird at times.
The "Ketracel White-Hot" thing totally didn't ring any bells and it's the kind of thing I have to look up. I knew it had to be referencing something but didn't really remember any specific thing.

It's the full name of "the white" drug that was required by the Jem'Hadar in order for them to continue living (and be controlled), distributed by the Founders via the Vorta. Being a DS9 thing, makes sense that it'd be something you'd find at Sisko's restaurant.

Also, I now want that inspired theme park joy rider to either become a villain or the greatest Starfleet officer ever. Season 13 will be his time, baby!

Yeah, that was good. Bozeman, Montana is both a tacky theme park and has a warp capable spaceship ride. That was hilarious.

@Darth_Duck I bet it turns out that Boimler’a hair is naturally purple, but there’s some weirdly specific reason why he uses purple hair dye that only Boimler would think of.

James Cromwell does a great self-parody.

The off-screen trial was an inspired plot choice. I hope we never get the full story, but multiple random references that hint at how it went down.

That was one the part of the episode that I actually didn’t like. I get that Mariner is an ensign, and that there are limits on what she can know for security reasons, but her parents are a captain and an admiral and they basically don’t tell her anything? Really?

They did tell her, repeatedly. "Trust Starfleet, trust the system, truth and justice will prevail." And that's exactly what happened. Mariner might have found out more if she hadn't been out of contact, off on a wild goose chase.

I thought it was interesting that even Mariner says that her mother is being treated unfairly because she's a California-Class captain but also Mariner was in a bit of a mood that episode.

Yeah, but that was clearly too vague. He could have said something like, “the Cerritos’ logs have already exonerated Captain Freeman. The trial is purely a formality.” Marine, Boimler, Rutherford and Tendi could have been assigned to the team replating the Cerritos’ outer hull, as insurance against Mariner doing something stupid. However, there’s something important that was left out of the logs, so Tuvok’s investigation team has to go to the Cerritos to retrieve the data. However, Tuvok’s investigation is strictly need to know, so they’re taking a shuttle instead of beaming onto the ship. Unfortunately, they’re detected by Mariner, Boimler, Tendi and Rutherford, who’ve been left out of the loop because this is way above their security clearance. As a result, they think that Tuvok’s team is somehow connected to the Pakleds or the Klingons. They manage to get the drop on Tuvok, and wind up interfering with a Starfleet security investigation.
