Well in his defense, the attack on the Garrison was due to him going after someone. I dont remember the whole story, but I think it was just simple for him. Kill the troops to keep them out of his way. He's given people fair warning before, he made his reputation. If you want to stand between him and his target, its your ass. Killing the troops kept them from interfering later on, which is what they would have done if he had of walked in, said "I'm here for so and so."

As I recall from that story, Fett had recently been humiliated in such a way as to suggest his reputation as the best bounty hunter may no longer have been accurate. It sounded in the story as if Fett could easily have gotten in and killed his target without having to kill everyone else, just a few extra deaths. One man being able to get in and kill someone inside and then get back out with little trouble would have greatly discredited the garrison and all who were there. But to prove he still desrved his rep after being humiliated, Fett deliberatly added kill the entire base to his job.

The real mistake was hiring Elizabeth Hand.

I liked the first two young BF books, but the latter four written by Hand were terrible...

I never liked the Gamer magazine canonazing Fett's marriage with Sintas.

Then again, I don't like Boba being a clone, either...

These all serve to ruin the excellent Last One Standing story which had made me into a Fett fan.

    [face_laugh] Is that physically possible?

I never liked the Gamer magazine canonazing Fett's marriage with Sintas.

Isn't that from Tales? If so I can't believe that out of all the cool stuff they could have canonized they canonized that ****.

Then again, I don't like Boba being a clone, either...

I believe that this guy agrees with you. :)

These all serve to ruin the excellent Last One Standing story which had made me into a Fett fan.

Yup. That and the OOT Fett are the real Fett. Not this stupid one that flirts with dancing girls and has no moral code. :(

So people are complaining that the later books don't fit their vision of the character...which is a loner virgin with some hackneyed "moral code".

    Hmmm... virgin loner, eh....

Who only appeared in ONE short story no less I point out!

Fett having his 'own' code of honor is nothing new in the EU but the whole virgin thing never largely fit the character I thought. At least not with some serious cultural background.

and the Jaster Mereel thing was against Lucas' guidelines to start with

I still don't know how the "virgin with a moral code" comes from how he acts in ESB or ROTJ.

    [face_thinking]

    Here's his lines

    "As you wish"

    No strong moral code there.

"He's no good to me dead"

    Cold-blooded, mercenary streak there.

"What if he doesn't survive? He's worth a lot to me.

Again, no moral code in evidence - seems to care only for money, not Solo's welbeing.

"Put Captain Solo in the cargo hold"

Oh, OH! This must be the strong moral code! See - PUT him in the cargo hold, not SHOVE. Gently, I assume...

Would this humiliation be when he lost Solo that last time in DE possibly? I can think of no other reason for him to feel so. Not many others got away from him such as Solo. This is the same reason the alien from AoD uses on him, he questions if it truly is Fett behind the mask still. Specifically mentioning Solo, this obviously prodded Fetts pride. And he summarily wiped out the crew of the Azghok. They had the choice to get out of the way. Fett certainly did not give the Garrison this choice.

I'll admit he could have slipped in and out with no trouble. those pesky Imperials are horrible at alerting any problems they seem to face. After not hearing back from the Scouts in the bush, I'm sure the switchboard thought they were sitting down for a drink or something. But once the AT-AT started shooting at their own stuff, I'm sure they might have smartened up.

I really should pick this book up, I cant for the life of me figure out why I never did. I really enjoyed this short story alone, and that would make it worthwhile buying.

If I felt I needed to wipe out a garrison to get my reputation back, sure why not. Fett's that kinda guy, his reputation is all he really has as a legacy (until NJO times anyway).

It was Kyle Katarn in Dark Forces actually.

Sorry. But the character has been ****ed over many times. He is constantly losing people Han, Luke, Leia, Kyle, the Arrandas. I could find more but it is too late.

Main characters I can understand from writers standpoint, and I dont usually agree with that either. You did forget Bria Tharen...although he "had" her, stupid Lando. On the bright side, he can deal with just about anyone other than those "main characters".

    Counterpoint....

Solo and Skywalker are arguably Fett could fight and not lose his reputation losing to. They slay legions after all.

I admit, the Sarlac joke would lose any man's rep...

I, for one, am glad Fett's voice was corrected for the DVD release.

Yes, I said "corrected." Deal with it :p

And "Last One Standing" is one of the best short stories in all of EU.

    Which is the problem.

Either abide by a great story that nevertheless contradicts EVERYTHING else or acknowledge the story is non canon

which is difficult because the damn thing is well written

The series portrayed Boba as a ten year old bounty hunter who kills a Noghri, lets him lie in a sandstorm and finally collects his petrified claws to collect his bounty, then goes to the kitchen where he visits his best friend (a girl) and her nice father who gives him a delicious pastry. Where's that cup of cocoa?

They made the mistake of seeing a youth series as the only way to portray a youth. Like cartoons are only for kids, never for adults. But becoming the hardest bounty hunter in the galaxy isn't exactly a success story I'd give my children to emulate. The Darth Maul Young Readers Episode 1 book at least had references to his bad, bad adolescence, which gave pity for what he became. But with Boba, everything's fine.

Another complaint would be that he makes too many mistakes to be a Fett, or to be feared in the future, or to stay in the business in the first place. But there has to be some learning curve for the readers, I guess, instead of psychological analysis of how Boba becomes what he becomes.

In the end, the whole series collapses when Boba doesn't get his bounty in #5&6 but instead goes out for personal revenge, which he doesn't get, either, and finally, he concludes that everything's alright and that his father would be proud because Boba's become the best bounty hunter. Which implies that he's really dumb.

On the other side, I have this anecdote of an Empire comic in which Boba tortures a victim to get information (he steps on his wounded arm). Here in Germany, the comic series which collects a variety of Dark Horse issues, printed this issue, and from the editorial part and the fan letters you can easily deduct that the magazine is mostly bought by kids. Ouch...

For me, yep, of course it was a mistake.

Look at the model in AOTC: the kind of kid who loves pulling wings off flies because he can.

Now contrast that with the icy, mysterious 'man with no name' aura Fett has in ESB.

Which do you want stories about? Dunno about you but I go for the ESB make.

I wish they had made the young Boba Fett series more serious. Currently they suck and have Boba learnig valuable life lessons, like Sesame Street. But not as cool.
