Yeah, Padme should have been given a better death, seriously lost the will to death. My god! GL, why damnit?

Lucas should have simply deleted the droid's conjecture: "She's lost the will to live." Nothing wrong with a little mystery within these allegorical trappings. She died along with her husband. Symbiosis, and all that jazz.

A simple: "I'm sorry sir, but we can't explain why she's dying..." would have sufficed. Think of all the 'Crazy-Theory' threads THAT would have started...

Yep. Some would've speculated all kinds of crazy stuff, like she lost the will to live or died of a broken heart!

No, it just would've been the start of many a thread complaining about how it's implausible a civilization like the SW one can't figure out why someone is dying.

That's exactly what we have now. "Lost the will to live" isn't a medical condition; the docbots obviously have no idea what's causing Padme's death.

Well, *duh* that's what we have now. I'm saying your hypothetical solution would've led to the exact same thing.

Frankly, I would preferred that they said she died as a result of the injury Vader gave her, but that probably would've been "too dark" for the series. They should have just clipped the droid's speculation out of it. Now we have, as Dr. Ball so eloquently lampooned, a hilarious problem because of it.

Either way it would have been said, there would still be discussion topics about what exactly was the cause of death because it was never actually specified in the movie.

I believe that the movie was just about right in terms of darkness; it had very dark moments, yet wasn't so dark that it was downright depressing.

Regarding the controversy about Padmé and Leia - In Jonathan Ritzler's book Iain McCaig contributes this: He drew the Queen of Alderaan to resemble Natalie's Padmé because of Leia's line in RotJ, and actually, the actress (Rebecca Jackson Mendoza) who does play Bail's wife does indeed resemble Padmé, more so than many of her handmaidens whose selection was an intention resemblance.

George has said many times regarding his Star Wars films that he never intends to spell out everything and that there is still much to uncover.

and he probably will never confirm everything - I think he enjoys fans arguing over his intentions and when there is never a confirmed finality everything can be true, from a certain point of view.

I was mainly trying to see who'd get all riled up from my reply. :p

For what it's worth, the EU says Padme died from the choke itself. At least that's what it says on Wookiepedia.

Yeah, the EU does say that, but IMO it's simply the medical droids in ROTS simply describing what they thought happened, as the film overrules any EU statement, and the film clearly states the medical droids don't have any idea what's happening.

The EU does not in fact say that.

ROTS was just dark enough, but could have been even darker.

It just occurred to me to mention that a darker PT (and perhaps even the more adult-friendly political machinations that are already in the films) would run contrary to Lucas's oft-stated intention to create Star Wars as a modern fairy tale in response to the dark, adult films that dominated the movie scene in the 70s.

Good point; SW is by nature a light-dark drama with some tasty nastiness in it every now and then.

The PT does not have too much darkness in it, but can get pretty tense in certain spots.

I disagree very much with the first post. It was great the way it was.

I felt the exact same way during Mace's death. It was really shocking - I actually felt a little sick.
