    Why the 1960s?

Why would there be only one peak? Humanity has had many ups and downs before. Civilizations start. And end. And they start again. Sometimes overlapping others.

    It's not necessarily even linear.

It's been downhill since my sister was born in 1989. Everything was good until then.

it's a rhetorical question. But still - we've been ****ing up ever since.

We all know humanity peaked on June 25, 1984.

Ah the 60s, when the whole Vietnam thing got going. Great times.

It's not rhetorical. You started a thread about it lol.

And...I mean...what's ****ing up even mean? We did plenty of that before 1960 too.

But what happened in the 60s that you think it means we (and who's we? All of humanity?) 'peaked'? Peaked how? Technologically? Socially? Evolutionarily? Culturally?

Lego didn't have minifigures until 1978, so some things have improved since the 60s.

Leafs haven't won a Cup since 67, though, so maybe you're on to something

Humanity is in its golden age right now. But much like the Incans, Mayans, and Aztecs who reached their zeniths in the 1500's, the Spanish Empire (climate change) is here to end it.

I'm not claiming the present day is a peak. I'm just not seeing what was making the 60s a "peak of humanity"

Peaked? Humanity hasn't even begun to peak. And when we do peak, you'll know. 'Cause we're gonna peak so hard that everybody in the galaxy's gonna feel it.

Maybe the 60s were our nadir. Maybe it's all up hill. We're just still experiencing the bottom floor crap.

Can we improve on things? Will we make the world a better place?

Somethings have definitely improved since the 60s.

The entire concept of there being one human peak is misguided.

Nah, I think one can argue it exists, I just think the peak is, quite clearly, 1984's Voyage of the Rock Aliens.

Cubs winning the World Series on a rainy Wednesday Nite in Cleveland was the peak of civilization. After that the cigarette smoking man has been hitting the "control-alt-delete" button or something has like the Buffalo Bills, he didn't want to see the Cubs win the world series in his lifetime therefore its been a fast drop ever since.

I think “****posting a widely panned superhero movie back into theaters so it could flop a second time” has to be on the list of peak human achievements.

One could argue that America hit its peak in the mid-70s, having been humbled by Vietnam and Watergate while seeing significant progress in terms of civil and women's rights/environmental movements. But worldwide? I don't even know how that could be gauged.

Traditionally, we just peg the world's peak to America. It's simpler that way.
