From RETURN OF THE JEDI, we knew that Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader had lost his original, flesh and blood right arm at some point during his life. I was surprised, however, that Anakin lost it as early as when he was 19 (i.e. in ATTACK OF THE CLONES). I had previously expected that the loss of the arm occurred as a result of Anakin's alleged duel with Obi-Wan in EPISODE III, as one of the many wounds that forced Anakin to don the life support system/body armor of Darth Vader.

Was anyone else surprised that Anakin lost his arm so soon?

I wasn't surprised, simply because I was knew it had to happen sometime. Of course, I was spoiled, I had seen a picture of Anakin with his arm chopped off, and had I seen the action figure with the removable arm all before AOTC came out, so I knew to expect it during the Anakin/Dooku duel.

    I was suprised, too.
Having been virtually spoiler-free for Ep2, I thought that Anakin's cybernetics would all be due to wounds received in Ep3, so I was suprised that his path down to becoming more machine than man started so early.

I think it would have been more fun if Anakin had lost a leg instead. Then we could have had him hopping around Dooku like The Black Knight in "Holy Grail".

As unspoiled as I was, this did not suprise me. Alas, I am a big NBC late night TV fan, and I caught an episode of Leno which I now wish that I hadn't.... [face_plain]

    Mace Windy,
yes, there is a draft in here!

I was a little more surprised that we saw his nipple. We saw Vader's nipple.

I saw that Leno episode. It didnt make me quite as upset as the 'final battle Jango' figure that I REALLY wish I hadnt opened, but yes, that Leno show was kinda frustrating.
I was surprised that Anakin lost his arm in E2, but hopefully not as surprised as I'll be when he gets that scar on his head.

Some twerp in the spoiler free forum gave that bit away a few months before the film was released, so it wasn't a surprise to me, unfortunately. :(

Naw I was spoiled beside's, it was a parallel, SW is full of them. It displayed the deeper meaning of Anakin's loss of humanity.

That was pretty stupid by Leno but we can assume someone from Lucas gave him that figure to show and they knew his arm could fall off.

    Well I was spoiled too.
But when I found out about it, I was really suprised. I thought he lost everything in his fight with Obi-Wan.
Most people around here who were spoiled typically answer 'I was spoiled so I knew,' but what were your thoughts when you first found out?

It happened so fast, I didn't have time for it to surprise me before I heard little Yoda straining to walk into the room... biggest play in history when he flys around the room... nobody saw that coming, but it made me laugh, which isn't what GL wanted to happen. ;)

I wasn't spoiled. Wasn't expecting it. But when it came it wasn't a surprise. Felt right.

I was shocked when he lost his arm and I was also shocked that that was the end of the duel. It was very short.
