I haven't read any Star Wars comics other than Son of Dathomir and I don't want to real all of them just to find out. I ask because he really doesn't have much just going by the movies. Hopefully we'll see more in 8.

of the marvel comics I read and the new ones with Lt. Shan as a potential romantic interest (barely) I see he uses lightsaber very well. Maybe force push.

This is arguably why we're getting The Legends of Luke Skywalker in a few months.

The only material we have of Luke so far in the new canon just takes place inbetween IV and V or immediately after ROTJ. They are keeping his character largely under wraps now so we can get some big surprises in the upcoming movies.

I feel like nu-canon Luke has been severely nerfed compared to the stuff he'd do in legends

Bloodline explicitly states that, at least for many years prior to the novel, Luke and his Jedi have kept to themselves and not gotten involved in galactic affairs and aren't even really thought about by the New Republic.

We haven't seen NUke do anything after RotJ, yet, AFAIK.

    "Nerf" seems a bit premature.

We saw him save a tree, because life is precious (except for the ones he killed saving the tree).

Ah, that's right, my bad. Still pretty early on, though.

If Luke is considered a myth in TFA, is it because he did a load of stuff that people find hard to believe thus the Legends book?

So far most of what Luke's done is 1) Run away from Vader and 2) Be knocked unconscious, taken prisoner, then be rescued by someone else. :p

I'm exaggerating, but honestly we can't expect much else from Luke pre-Dagobah. And that's unfortunately when most of the nu-canon Luke stories have been set. Well, there was that one issue of Shattered Empire, and he was cool in that, but that's pretty much the only post-RotJ Luke story we have right now. And that's not likely to change, not until at least after Episode VIII, maybe IX even. All because TFA just had to set up the "mystery" of what happened to Luke and why his attempt at a Jedi Order failed.

TLJ has a lot to answer for as to why Luke is so important (aside from the Vader and Endor thing, hard to tell if he did much after that).

The only person in TFA who ever said that Luke Skywalker was a myth was a girl who had been living on a secluded desert planet her entire life. Everyone else in the movie seemed fully aware that Luke was a living breathing person. He was just a person that nobody knew where he currently was.

The whole Luke Skywalker is a myth storyline is one of the most exaggerated and blown out of proportion claims that fans say about the movie. One character said it in the entire movie (a character who was stranded herself and had very little knowledge of the known galaxy) and it has turned into everyone in the movie thinking he was a myth.

Yet we're getting The Legends of Luke Skywalker Jammin, so there may well be something to it.

I'm sure there are stories about Luke that may or may not be factual amongst the general public of the galaxy. Infact I wouldn't be surprised if the synopsis for the book are stories that Rey has heard about him.

Regardless though that doesn't change the fact that some fans have tried to paint the picture that many of the characters in the movie weren't even sure if Luke Skywalker even existed. And most everyone in the movie except for Rey does seem aware that he exists.

You know what Jammin, how about you quit being a killjoy about an upcoming book? ;)

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the death of Jabba became a legend - 3-4 people took on an entire army above a Sarlacc pit, they not only won but blew up the barge too. Now, who's going to believe that?

That might be a story they may tell in the book. I just want to indicate that the movie doesn't in anyway try to say that most of the characters in TFA have the opinion that Luke isn't a real person.

Rey thought Luke was a Legend, but the people who did not knew him personally.

the newly named Finn's reaction to finding out that the map led straight to Luke Skywalker was "Oh, you gotta be kidding me!" So Finn apparently knew that Luke Skywalker was a real guy and can't believe there's a map to him. Or "you gotta be kidding me!" is he thinks Luke is also a myth, but that seems unlikely since Finn is the one who asks Han about Luke. So maybe it is just Rey.

To be fair, Luke's incredible Legends Force-feats are all post Endor and all we've seen of him doing anything is in Shattered Empire. And he did take out a lot of people there and followed the Force to a very special source.. Although it also seems he pops up in the Battlefront 2 story mode.

He's considered a myth because nobody's seen him in decades and the Jedi haven't been around in any real numbers for half a century now.
