I think this is an interesting point of the story, however irrelevant.

Do you think he saw darkness in Anakin?
Do you think he saw the amount of power Anakin has?
Has he seen anything of Anakin other than their duel?

    Any thoughts?

I wonder if Dooku can see Anakin replacing him, and that is why he cut off Anakin's arm.

I think dooku is so overconfident at that pont,I think he saw anakin as just another jedi he could beat easily.after all he thought he could beat yoda too ;)

Not much. He was probably like " Not impressive, not very impressive. "

Stupid of me, but after my first viewing of AOTC, I thought that Dooku told Sidious in the end scene that "I have good news for you, My Lord. The BOY has begun." I heard BOY instead of what I should have heard: WAR. So I was excited because I thought that both Dooku and Palpatine were planning to turn Anakin when they were really discussing the war. Proof I have bad ears in a theater.

So, was it exhaustion on Dooku's face after he cut off Anakin's arm, or was it regret? Kind of makes me wonder, is there some possible good in Dooku?

Since Palpy already knows of anakin, and his power, I think that his fight with dooku was sort of a test. If he fought viciously with emotion, he was ripe for turning to the dark side. If he was calm, cool, and fought without emotion, he would most likely not turn. It was probably also a test to see if he was strong enough, since he did become a padawan late in his age.

in the novel it states how dooku underestimated anakin and that he was no ordinary warrior. dooku however would not know sidious want to turn him as if he did he would be taking his place so why would he do it. to sacrifice himself for the sith? i dont think so, he is too selfish for that.

also i dont think anyone besides the council members and obi wan know that anakin is believed to be the 'chosen one' as their is no reference to it.

Dooku knew Obi-Wan was training the Chosen One. And Dooku, with all of his Jedi knowledge knew Anakin was just that. But he probably thought Skywalker was just another Jedi who was in his way.

I think he thought of Anakin as, just what he called him, a boy.

Don't feel bad, Quiescent_Affair - I not only heard boy the first time, but kept hearing it for a long time until someone finally showed me it was, in fact, war. I think it would have been much more interesting if it were, in fact, boy. :)

I think he thought Anakin was just a boy; an inexperienced child waving a big sword at him. I think Dooku thinks all the Jedi are below him in AOTC; I mean, if the guy thinks Yoda is beneath him, I'm sure he's gotta think Anakin's beneath him too.

Dooku had underestimated Anakin, the book describes this. And after the battle you could see Dooku was exhausted for Anakin gave him a challenge. If only they left the duel as long as it had originally been to show that. Dooku was a little surprised of Anakin.

They should also have kept the duel longer to make the edit look better....

I think Dooku is sincere with his wish to destroy the Sith. He doesn´t realize he´s too far gone though. I also think he believes that Anakin is the Chosen one and is meant to help him destroy the Sith to bring balance to the Force.
That´s why he cut off his arm instead of killing him. At the end of his duel with Yoda, he let the pillar fall over Obi-Wan and Anakin, but only to distract Yoda, who he knew would save Anakin´s life. That´s why he doesn´t kill Yoda while he´s trying to stop the pillar.

Dooku, like most of us, probably thought anakin was a wuss, and that anakin still needs a junior-sized lightsaber.

I think that he thought Anakin had dived in way over his head. Which, to be fair, Anakin had :)

I think Dooku was pretty impressed with Anakin. At first he probably thought "He's just a kid, he doesn't stand a chance" and kind of chuckled. But during the fight with Dooku, Kenobi, and Anakin, there is that one point where Anakin steps in to save Obi-Wan's life from being ended by Dooku, and Dooku say's "Brave of you boy".
By the way that part honestly stupidly surprised me, when Dooku was swinging his saber around, and was going to just end Kenobi's life once and for all.

I also think Dooku was definately suprised of Yoda. You can see the sarcastic look on his face when Yoda comes in to the hangar. Then he uses the lightning, but Yoda just kind of throws it back. Once again you can see the surprise on Dooku's face.

I think Dooku thought of Anakin as a hot head and someone who got in his way.

I don't think that anyone besides Obi-Wan, and the Jedi Council believe Anakin could be the Chosen One. It does not indicate anywhere in the film. The only ones to discuss it are Mace, Yoda and Obi-Wan. If Dooku knew I think that he would have mentioned it to him to ridicule him by saying something like "Let's see what the Chosen One is capable of" or something like that just like he ridiculed Obi-Wan. Also i don't think Dooku wants to destroy the Sith. He wants to be the Sith Lord and over throw Sidious and rule the galaxy for himself. They are just both using each other as they need one another. Why would he kill all of those Jedi if he was still a good guy.

In the AOTC novel, Salvatore does a great job describing the fight sequence btwn Anakin and Dooku. It explains Dooku's feelings on his abilities quite well. I'll quote where Anakin steps in after blocking the killing blow to Obi-Wan.

For the first time, Count Dooku lost his little confident smile. He had to work furiously to keep Anakin's blade at bay, dodging more than parrying. He tried to step out to the side, but stopped as if he had hit a wall, and his eyes widened a bit when he realized this young padawan, in the midst of that assault, had used the Force to block his exit.
"You have unusual powers, young Padawan," he sincerely congratulated.....

Even though the book is not uber-canon, I take it as such. I really wish that part about him using the Force to block his exit had been in the final edit of the film. In my opinion, Dooku first thought of Anakin as any other whipping boy Jedi, then gave him grudging respect after he realized the extent of his abilities.

I also believe he had no idea Palpatine was/is grooming him, why would the apprentice be informed of his successor?

In my opinion, the up close shots in their duel where all you can see is their expressions and the red and blue is not only artistic, but awesome. They were fighting each other but it was as if they had become one in evil. Dooku no doubt was surprised by Anikan's skills with the saber, as Dooku is probably the most skilled we have yet to see with a saber on film.
