What do you think was going through Vader's head when Luke was getting electrocuted in ROTJ?

Hey, maybe this is an opportunity for George to go and add in some dialogue going through Vader's head. Like some stuff from the prequels...

 

"OK... so, Palpidious just said that by rights of his victory in a fit of anger, MY OWN SON could take MY place of Sith Apprentice at HIS side?

Hmmm... Wasn't there some dude who was a Count, or something, like 20 or more years ago?

Whatever...

But THEN, my son actually threw his lightsaber AWAY, and said that he was PROUD of me, and my Jedi heritage, before I became a peice of living/mechanized crap, and ruined the Galaxy?

WHOAH....! Now, Palps is in the process of electrocuting my ONLY SON, who loves me, for no good reason, other than the fact that I'm his FATHER...

<residual PALPS voice> But, Anakin, you haven't been a GOOD FATHER, think of what you did to LEIA...

LUKE: "Father... PLEASE!!!!"
PADME GHOST VOICE: "Anakin... PLEASE!!!!"
QUI-Gon GHOST VOICE: "Anakin... Save him!"
OBI-WAN GHOST VOICE: "Anakin, you MUST Listen to me! Save your son, as you couldn't save...
YODA GHOST VOICE: "The Chosen One, you always were, Master Skywalker."

Well, <clears throat> It's obvious Palp[atine is a worthless peice of bantha poodoo, so...

<Anakin grabs the Emperor, and tosses him over the rail.

Palpatine: "Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaghhhhhhhh" <explodes>

 

The main thing that comes to mind is Anakin's longing to stop his loved ones (and I totally believe that he loved Luke dearly) from dying. This was his chance. He was a slave in his childhood, was freed, gave in to hatred, and was again a slave. I'm sure all of this would come to mind... I'm sure he felt cheated. Also, the agony of losing Padme returned, and maybe for the first time in many years, he felt human emotion. It must have felt liberating.

 

What is that smell? Pierntalicious?

Probably like he nows he should do something, but he knows it'll be his death if he does. Like weighing the options.

I wonder if I can do this more dramaticly. look at my son, now look at my master. look at my son again now look at my master. this way all the other people in the room can plainly see that I am thinking something.

 

When Luke said something like, "I'm a Jedi, like my father before me." I think that struck a cord with Vader. Because that was my favorite line in RotJ. He probably rememberd what he told Padame, "I'm a Jedi, I know I'm better than this." and than he had a bunch of flashbacks and rememberd all the people he loved and who loved him, and realized that he had nothing with the emperor, and he got realy angry and killed the bastard.

 

Vader wasn't thinking anything, he died before he could pick Palaptine up, what you guys are meaning is Anakin. not Vader.

You guys have quite an imagination.Anyway,Vader went back to being Anakin again just in time to save Luke."There is good in you".

Vader did have plans to do away with Palpatine and wants Luke to help.What was happening wasn't in accordance to his plans.Seriously,destroying the emperor made him a hero.Everybody with me at that time stood up and cheered when he threw the emperor over.Obiwan would have said,"Good Job".

 

i thought of something if Gl changes ROTJ again he could add a sound clip of yoda saying Fear Lead to anger etc then after yoda another clip of anakin screaming no from the tragedy tv spot then vader picks up palpatine and throws him down the pit

 

^yeah, some flashbacks could be added to enhance the emotion of the scene, although it works fine without it, i know when I saw it the first time I almost cryed when Luke said, "I'm a Jedi, like my father before me", that's when Vader snaped I think. Question, for those of you that saw RotJ before you knew about PT, how did you feel about Vader after he killed the Emperor? Did you still hate Vader, or did you like him? Unfortunatly, I first saw ANH and than TPM and than the rest.

 

Vader's thoughts: Palpatine is killing my son? I joined the Dark Side for this? Man did I pick the wrong side. First Qui-gon, then my Mother and Padme. Last was Obi-wan.

Palpatine: Now young Skywalker you wil die.

Vader's thoughts: Ok that's it I'm dong with the Dark Side. Come to Papa Palpatine.

Vader picks him up and that's the end of Palpatine.

 

Vader was thinking this.
That little #%* ruined my whole look. How am I supposed to strike fear into the hearts of millions when I got a stub for a hand.
Wait, this could be good. People with decapitations freak others out.

But, I can't while Palpy over there is shocking 'im.
(Vader picks up Palpitine to move him out of the way and gets shocked. Pissed, he throws him accidentaly over the edge.)
Oops. I guess I'll have to act like I did it for Luke to make me look like I ain't no dummy.

 

I would say it's a combination of two things.

1. He sees his son in pain at the hands of the Emperor. He remembers that Padme was in pain as well, but back then, he could do nothing about it. This time however, he realizes that Luke can still be saved, whereas Padme was ultimately doomed. He had no choice but to rely on Palpitine to save Padme, but this time, he can save Luke without his help.

2. He sees that the Emperor cares nothing about Vader or or Luke. He only cares about what he wants and if he doesn't get it, he zaps it. It must ring somewhere in Vader's head that Palpitine must not have cared about Padme at all and only wanted Anakin to be his new apprentice. Seeing this, along with the fact that he can save Luke without Palptine's help must push him to overthrow the Emperor.

*Here, let me get the Emperor closer so he can finish off my son, I'll just help him up since he is, like, 100...And here we go, over to my soon to be dead yepo... Oh dang, stop squirming you old coot... Uh-oh... I wonder if he could survive that.... Mmmm* Of course I saved my son...

 

I think this scene combined with some scenes of his youth, his mother and Padme plus some sentences like the "I won't fail again" one, would make one heck of a trailer for a ROTJ re-release

Maybe that would tell a bit too much about the ending, but it would fit perfectly and there is no way that you could put this into the movie, so it's like the only chance to use something like this.

 

"Man, this reminds me of what happened to Mace! Just think! I coukd have ended Palpatine's evil reign back then. Oh wait!"
