I guess there is a good reason for George Lucas not to do that. The whole idea was that the audience should enter the Cantina just as Luke did, not knowing the name and race of each and every single alien and relying on vivid discriptions like "Hammerhead", "Snaggletooth", "Walrus Man" etc.

To create a name for each and every single character walking on the screen was not his mission, but the fanbase obviously just couldn't live with that. Yet when I see EU creations based on accurate research of original intentions and a common sense approach I'll gladly accept that and the 2003 "identification" is a rare but beautiful example for that.

As it stands the nuCanon still has to prove on what if any research their retcon is based upon, especially with the attitude that we are all somewhat "confused" believing in the 2003 conclusion regarding the names of the Imperial advisors in that picture. ;)

That's Wookieepedia's phrasing, not any of the newcanon authors. Still - the EU's depiction of Pestage and Dangor was somewhat different from any of the advisors in the pic - which was why that Wookieepedia editor chose to say that Pestage and Dangor were not in it.

Here's a few additional images of 6, so that a proper article can be added to Woolieepedia without moderators trying to deny reality and again attempt unwarranted deletions:

^^ Interesting pictures. Please note that in the colored shuttle disembarking image one of Palpatine's "physicians" (seen between Palpatine and Sate Pestage, IMHO) is to the left of the Imperial officer but ends up on the far right in the bird's eye shot.

Can't see any particular reason to make the presumption that some are physicians, at the moment. Especially given that the outfit being assumed to be "physician outfit" is worn by someone specifically called out as an advisor:

Well, they are all just "advisors" or "dignitaries" with no distinction of function which is nevertheless suggested by the obvious differences in clothing.

Considering there are three in identical clothing, last in line / hierachy following a guy who's using a cane (indication of old age) I think it's fair to assume they are physicians or "medical advisors".

I would not have minded to regard them as mere servants, but EU conjecture insists on "advisors". ;)

Alternately an in-depth examination of historical headgear might be appropriate to get a better idea about their actual / possible functions in Imperial hierarchy.

Have a sense of humor. It's fun to joke about Palpatine having physicians.
I've been arguing that Mas Amedda should be Grand Vizier during the OT ever since I saw ROTS. Amedda witnesses Yoda call Palpatine "Darth Sidious" and then witnesses Palpatine use Force Lightning. Combine that with how Amedda helps Palpatine rise to power in TPM and AOTC and it's clear that Amedda is in on Palpatine's false flag conspiracy. Combining that with the fact that we see that he's Palpatine's right hand on political matters throughout all 3 prequels, I figured that the character referred to as "Sate Pestage" in the early ESB screenplays is in fact an early concept for the character who we today know as Mas Amedda. That Amedda would fall out of favor with Palpatine at some point is a baseless assumption. Whenever someone fell out of favor with Palpatine, there was a reason for it. Palpatine judges people by their usefulness to him, not by his short-term feelings.

Maybe Lucas decided that "Sate Pestage" is a stupid name and that "Mas Amedda" sounds and looks better. Early ESB drafts said "Sate Molock," suggesting that Lucas wasn't settled on the name.

And Darth "Sidious" and "Tyranus" and General "Grievous" are not "stupid" names according to Lucas? [face_hypnotized]

    P.S.

I find the allusions of "sate" rather interesting: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/sate

Rather sounds like a title than first name to me.

I agree and wish Lucas used more from the OT such as characters like Sate Prestige in a younger look helping Palpatine reach Emperor. There seemed to be a bit much "lets do something new" when something old would have been far more interesting and connected the two trilogies in a much productive fashion.

I don't think it is baseless as Palps does have a habit of replacing his underlingings pretty often. The imperial advisors are just newer models of Nute and Rune from the TF.

I think Palps just likes to surrand himself with a circle of powerful people that he can exploit and easily dispose of and replace.

Which image? One of the ones of him from Force 10? Or one of his Doctor Who background appearances?

Oh @Iron_lord, what a lovely thread about dignitaries you started here! And it only took me like a hundred years to bump into it!

About Mas Amedda being Grand Vizier, I mean... I think he works, sure, but to this day I still picture the Grand Vizier talking with Vader on that planned scene of ESB as the character we saw in the Rogue Squadron series. Oh well, its surely hard to contend with the level of visibility earned by Amedda in the PT when you are coming from comics and vintage toys references. Still rooting for you, Sate!

Then again, I also wonder why Sim Aloo (possibly the most prominent dignitary of them all during the OT) has always been so ignored that he wasn't even present in Tarkin, the sole moment these guys had to shine in canon so far...

Here's a few of the images of Michael Josephs from Dr. Who (he's in several episodes- I also saw him in the background of State of Decay), from the warehouse in Force 10 From Navarone, and from his appearance as the German submarine commander in Eye of the Needle.

Just noticed that you also highlighted Tommy Graham. Several other extras who knew him are the source of him having been the one to portray the "young" (relative to the others) looking Dignitary that became known as Kren Blista-Vanee. It's a great shame that he passed away circa 1988 as the result of an accident. He'd surely still be with us if not for that. He also doesn't seem to have been as prolific an extra as, say, Lang or even Batsoni, but I've attached a few of the images that I've been able to verify as being of him:

Also, have any of you considered the idea of the sixth advisor being Tony Castleton?

Just saw your response. Of course I've considered it, as myself and another Dignitary fan were the ones that came up with it. How we came to the conclusion is that Castleton has been listed in the Making of book, but not under any specified role. Looking through all of the other parts doesn't reveal anyone that resembles him based upon all of his other appearances. There is, however, a close enough resemblance between him and the indistinct images of the 6th Dignitary. So while we can't confirm that he did portray the 6th Dignitary, we also can't rule out the possibility, and no other extras known to have been in ROTJ seem to match as well as he does. It's a leap, but it's a plausible leap.

Interesting. The ROTJ Making of book is so far the only one I have no access to. I know it also confirmed Stuart Fox was Jad Bean. I wonder what other little-known personages are mentioned in that book.
