I don't want to be a debbie downer but the bottom line are any of the new annoucements going to be made? Thats the thing, the big reveal and then the bigger silence and then the cancelation and then, back to square one.

A Jedi origins movie, a movie about Rey’s future, and a movie that could potentially feature the OT3 in deepfake form are what I wanted. So today was a good day for me.

Well, at bare minimum I'm assuming the Filoni film will, considering... it's Filoni. He's been a major part of Lucasfilm's storytelling side for years, and since his movie is going to be the narrative wrapup of their major TV series, that one feels inevitable. The post-IX film sounds like it's pretty close to starting production, and Mangold was apparently discussing his film with Kennedy while working on Dial of Destiny, a movie Disney seems very confident in. I'd hazard a guess that barring anything serious, they'll all be made, with the Filoni film as a 100% definite.

Seems counterintuitive, but I'm pretty confident these three will be made.

Also going to go ahead and write "this didn't age well" so a poster in 2027 won't have to.

I get it, the news is exciting, and I definitely want to see another Star Wars movie in the theater, but we got to get it made. You can't fault me because I can go down the list of movies that were revealed and its been one cancellation after the other. I know we have Disney + but to me Star Wars will always be the movies. They are supposed to be big spectacles.

What do you expect people to say in response? All we can do is hope that they get made and are successful. We don’t know anything else and we can’t influence it.

Announcing this stuff at Celebration is a bit more serious than the last big announcement, which was what, an investor's meeting?

Taking it to the public this way, some have argued, would result in even more pie in their faces if the movies aren't made.

Of course, no one can guarantee anything. At least the projects sounds pretty exciting, no?

Nearly everything is different this time. Disney recently brought back their most highly productive CEO in recent history, who made it clear that LFL's lack of direction in the film department was unacceptable. These announcements were not made as "planned projects" to a group of investors concerned about how their investment would be potentially utilized. The announcements were made on a much more public platform, directly to fans, with filmmakers and actors brought out to show that all of the proposed films are much farther along than concepts scribbled on napkins. Under the prior Disney regime, the (now cancelled) projects were intangible ideas with names of directors, whereas this time the directors were made available immediately to answer questions and share formed details about what they are working on, rather than vagueries.

I absolutely think the Filoni film happens. They have Dave Filoni at the helm, and it's got a built in audience from the Mando shows, serving as a potential conclusion for that arc. It's happening, no doubts.

The Rey film is another I fully believe happens... and I think it's the first one we actually get. It's already been in development for two years, and Daisy is contracted for it. Having an established character and Star attached to a project makes it far more likely than all the "who knows what the character is or who's in it" films they've announced the past few years.

The Dawn of the Jedi film though? I'm 50/50 on. I'm sure someday we'll have a film or show on that topic. Will it be James Mangold? -shrugs- everytime they announce these films years in advance where the director has one, or more, projects coming first... yeah I dunno about that.

Which was the best thing about these announcements. The veil of secrecy was finally lifted. We didn't get nearly this much info about the other films. I thought a Disney sniper was going to take Mangold out.

Do you guys think that all three of these new movies will be theater releases? More and more often, movies are just coming out on streaming services.

I feel like that trend is starting to reverse somewhat, as studios are starting to realize that the ROI on streaming services is limited because infinite growth models don't actually result in infinite growth.

Not holding my breath but I'd love the KOTOR/Bane time periods to be made into films. I'm not a gamer but I really enjoy the stories for these time frames that go along with the games. I think some of those characters would be bad ass in live action.

I stumbled upon this thread randomly and thought very briefly about what I would like to see made into a Star Wars movie, so my pick might not be as fully realized and detailed as some others in this thread. However, I would like to see a Star Wars movie about the soldiers on the front lines of the battlefront, but I would want it to be from the perspective of the Empire or the First Order, I wouldn't mind either one. Kinda like Battlefront 2 (2017)'s campaign. However, I wouldn't want any of the main characters to defect to the Rebellion or anywhere else. It would be great to see the ideals, morals, and perspectives of the "bad guys." A movie like this could have some great action and character moments if done well. I will also say that I love an awesome character cameo or appearance like Vader in Rogue One or Luke in Mando just as much as anyone else but for a movie like this, I wouldn't want that. I would want all the characters to be brand new. That's all I have right now.

@TsmHedorah, I'd love to see something like that also - but I think there's little chance anything like that would ever get made as a major film. Maybe if they ever allowed some "legends" type animation (a la Visions, but a movie) you might see it.

One of the best war movies I've ever seen in the german film "Stalingrad" which is made from the point of view of a group of German soldiers at the battle.

But the big question is, what is alive and what is dead from the old projects/directors?

I feel like something should be done with droids at this point. I feel like I’m getting mixed messages about how to feel about them.

To Owen they are just tools, to Poe and Luke they became friends, to Padme they can be worthy of commendation, to Wuher and Din they aren’t to be trusted, in TCW they were automotons to be cut through like butter, in one of the recent episodes of Mando they seem like they are individuals with some semblance of feelings, they are subject to memory wipes and restraining bolts, some are bounty hunters (presumably desiring money), L3-37 seeks droid liberation, and so on.

Then you have T0-B1, while not canon, is the droid that becomes a Jedi Knight.

I honestly feel like they need to do something with droids. Either make them a villains where a droid faction rises up. Or do a canonical Force sensitive character to show that they have “life” the latter need not have a film dedicated to itself, it could simply be a supporting character.

But I feel like half the time droids are objects to be owned that everyone takes for granted, while other times they seem sentient and are capable of forming bonds of friendship, which makes the aforementioned treatment problematic.

The problem is that Lucas’ saw them as things without ‘souls’ and it’s the type of ambiguity that you probably shouldn’t address unless you want the potential for your hero characters to effectively be slave owners. They’ve decided to open the can of worms now though.
