Did anyone catch how storm..er the clone, yeah, clonetroopers were named? I missed it if mentioned at all...if no designation besides Commander or whatvever existed, then no emotional tie was there...also the clones must care for their own...recall Vader entering the Tantive IV after the battle in ANH, one troop is cradling his fallen partner...then stands at attention when DV comes in...maybe after duty comes the clean up. Also, there must be some sprout of free will and emotion in the armies...note in the OT when the troops stop to check out the Vader/Kenobi fight...curiosity is free will. Also in AOTC the troops seem to cover each other, a sign of concern. So I guess they go after their own wounded.

    Confirming years of wild
    rumor, Charlton Heston makes
    his Star Wars appearance as
    "Kamino Soylent Technician #1138"

On the Text Commentary, TOS says that each clonetrooper has a letter-number designation that shows up as an LED readout on the back of their helmets. It's not shown close-up but in the movie each trooper is "THX-1138" :D

That's the origin of the "TK-421"-style naming scheme, apparently.

Not in the films, but the naming designation convention seems to be like this: CT-5/501, as utilized for the TCG and Boba Fett young reader books.

So, it reads Clonetrooper # of the ### unit or whatever.

I don't think they are left to die.

Yoda himself treated the Clones with respect.

"Very good, commander. Very good indeed" (non-exact quote).

So we can see that they are, at least, as valuable as dogs.

Sure they are cannon fodder on AotC, but even Jedi died by the dozens.

They carry not much weight on SW.

"You'll pay for all the clones you killed here today, Dooku"

    "Allright, allright. How much credits?"

"Well, according to Kamino it's about XXXXXXX space credis"

"OK, I will use my Sith VISA"

Actually, when it come to the movie, we can see Jedi Knights leading platoons of clone troopers into battle, protecting them as they lead the charge.

Why am I suddenly reminded of that one Powerpuff Girls episode? The one where Him tells the girls, "The Professor will PAY!! Oh, yes, he's going to PAY!!!", unless they complete certain tasks...and then, cut to the diner:

Him standing at cash-register: <<KA-CHING!!!>> "See, I *told* you the Professor would pay! Seven-fifty, Professor!!"

"I'm never eating at this restaurant again, Him!!"

In the very first sequence in ANH, just before Vader's first entrance, one of the Stormtroopers is looking after one of his fallen comrades. As soon as Vader walks in though, he snaps to attention. As best I can tell, this is the only time a storm/clonetrooper looked after another.
