I took it as Palps sneering at a jedis weapon because ITS ALL THEY GOT.

They dont abuse the force like the sith do, so it really would seem pretty febble to him.

Look at his Mace fight compared to Yoda.

With Mace, no force powers= Sidious "defeated".(fake or not)

with Yoda, force powers= defeated Yoda, even with a light saber. Sids never lost his.

His style looks a lot slower, but it's deadly accurate. He seems to fight a lot like Dooku, so I'd guess maybe Form I or II or a combination, some really ancient kind of style.

    "i like his stabbing nature"

then you should meet my friend... he also enjoys to quickly stab and retreat. of course when he does it there are usually many beers and a somewhat large woman involved.

I felt that Palpatine's lightsaber fighting style seemed to mirror whatever opponent he happened to be fighting. When he fought Mace, his style seemed to echo Mace's own. When he fought Yoda, his style seemed to try to match Yoda's.

    "^ No mention of Mace.

Pertaining to whether Sidious is right-handed or left-handed with a lightsaber, he's ambidextrous. He's just that good. - NG
Sidious' abilities are beyond anything we've experienced. - NG
It took a really long time for Nick (Gillard) to work out Sidious' fighting style, and he has a style that's constantly changing. His style is one in which you'll never get the better of him. It is ambiguous --- he'll fight less than you and draw you in; you're a sucker if you think you're going to better him. - NG
Sidious is a master of every weapon and every style. - NG

^Nothing above suggests Palpatine's sole strength lies in manipulation. If anything, the above quotes suggest he is just as powerful in saber and force combat, as he is in manipulation.

He knows every form of light saber combat, says NG.
I noticed he did several forms during his two duels.
So every style you know about, he knows and has mastered it.

Palpatine's twisting, flying attack against the Jedi posse was his single most impressive move. The guy moved like the snake he was.

His lightsaber style is the equivalent of Drunken Style in martial arts. It's looks off and kinda sloppy but is actually the deadliest.

I think you can see the words "Bad Mutha *****" on the hilt. o_O

His form seems to favor close quarter combat. He draws you in and then fills up what space is available. Its actually more technical than the other lightsaber fighting in the other films. Drawing someone in would negate their lightsaber ability, and there is no match for his strength with the force.
Its also effective when fighting Yoda, as Yoda is small and uses the amount of space between him and his opponent to his advantage. Filling up space in that matter and fighting closely is used in all martial arts, but more so by ninjas, which makes even more sence for Palps.

About the laughing, that was great. This is a guy who has spent his entire life waiting for this moment and he was enjoying it, and on top of that, everything was coming together perfectly.

    "It's like button-smashing on a video game"

    That's exactly it!
Believe me, in a game, that's effective. You can beat anyone.

Ha! Not in Street Fighter you can't. Maybe Tekken or some other trash.

Anakin is a Form IV(4)-a form based on power
Dooku-is a Form II(2)- and classic older style based more on fencing
Obi-wan is form III(3)- a defenvise form adapted to deflect balster bolts and defense based fighting
MAce- is Form VII a very aggressive style thats the user must have great control because it is so agressive that it borders on the dark side.

Palps and Ypda seem to be a mix.

Ok, let me explain it to you :

This is just another gimmick from Palpatine
This one is pretty easy. Lets face it : Palpatine knew Annakin was coming and he let Mace win the fight intentionally. Thus, Annakin had to make a choice help Mace or Palpatine. By helping Palpatine ? he would come closer to the dark side ?it was all Palpatine?s plan.
Palpatine?s face did not burn, it was just one of he?s gimmick ?he looked helpless and old ? ?help me ?.!, I cant? take it anymore?
And when Annakin chop Mace?s arms ?again Palpatine was strong as hell !!! but now -he as a new apprentice ! get it ?
Face it guys, Mace is not that strong and he?s no Yoda !!

Which takes us back to the 2 Sith vs. Anything beats Anything argument. LAME. Palps lost. Anakin saved his ass because Palps cradled Anakin while Mace rejected him. Simple as that. Why does everybody have to read into things so stupidly. Watch the f-ing movies.

"You don't need guidance, Anakin. I've said it before, you are the most gifted jedi I have ever seen. I foresee you becoming the greatest jedi of all. Even more powerful than Master Yoda."

"In time, you will learn to use your powers. Then, you will be invincible."

    "I need your help, son."

    VS.

"No. The boy will not be trained. He is too old."

"You are on the council, but we do not grant you the rank of master."

    "I don't trust him."

Yah, that's a real brain buster. I wonder why Anakin feels a stronger allegiance to Palpatine. Encouragement vs. Discouragement. Which one would you choose? And this doesn't even bring up the fact that Palpatine wants to show Anakin a way to save Padme. That alone is a reason for Anakin to help Palps out.

Here's a question about saber fights in general.

Consider that when one swings with a lot of force they are generally committed to that direction. So when you have a saber lock, meaning you are holding back the opponnent's attack with your blade, why not just step aside and lower your blade allowing the enemy to swing full through, and then raise your blade as they continue to fumble forward.

This assumes of course that Jedi 'reflexes' don't see the trick coming. It makes sense to me, allow the enemy to impale themself on your blade.

I'm sure the jedi NEVER considered this in all their training. They could probably use a few more of your pointers.

The Fettz..... I think Anakin is actually a form V users which uses more strength and is derived from form III but deflects the blaster bolts back to the attacker...
