This thread should be helpful in determining which of us will be first against the wall when the revolution comes. :)

    For me:
    • American football (even though I know the long-term and debilitating effects the game has on so many of its players--in addition to the NFL's worship of the American military industrial complex)
    • Amazon Prime (despite the fact CEO Jeff Bezos is a real-life James Bond villain)
    And probably some others. :p

There's no such thing as ethical consumption under capitalism. :)

    probably old Roman Polanski movies

I don't do Woody Allen movies bc I find him immensely not funny / likable / entertaining before any of the real life stuff comes into play

Of course there is. But it can be lethal if untreated.

I still have a copy of Annie Hall but I am to lazy to pull it off the shelf and put it in my Blu ray/ dvd player.

I feel kinda guilty about Starbucks but I used to work there myself and it was no worse than any other retail job I held.

The NBA has had a rough, rough start this season.

I still use Facebook groups to check what time to meet and where on Saturday mornings

Amazon Prime > It’s been our lifeline to groceries delivery though.
Grub Hub > Same for food delivery. Our favorite restaurant doesn’t take my forms of payment so we go with what we can.

I used to feel very guilty about enjoying Italian horror films as much as I do, but I’ve since culled the more problematic content and watch for why I enjoy the movies and the actors involved.

    Prime is tops for me.

Not media related but I still hit up Chick-fil-a a couple times a year. I hate myself while shoveling the waffles fries down my gullet.

I am literally the only person I know who boycotts Amazon. I joke about it daily, my one person boycott does so much good. As the Amazon truck delivers packages to all my neighbors . But honestly I rarely used it so I have nothing to miss. And I just heard more bad Amazon press on a podcast this week.

Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis basically present the US military as way more altruistic than what they are irl.

The thread didn't specify consumption through the capitalist economy. It simply asked you what is the most problematic thing you consume. You could as easily respond about fictional stories your young relatives or friends dream up de novo. You are consuming their art but there is no exchange of goods happening and while this might occur in a country with a capitalist economy, the particular interaction between story-teller and listener needn't itself be capitalist. So pick the most problematic one of those, then.

Film wise, Roman Polanski and Woody Allen have made a number of works that I love, but I don't deny that they're both monsters.

In terms of other media, the big one is the Call of Duty franchise. Yes, it is insanely right wing military industrial complex propaganda, but the gunplay is still pretty fun.

Not only do I love John Landis's 80s output, but find him to the most engaging and delightful director interviewee (apart from Scorsese). And this is after reading Outrageous Conduct, and concluding that he is a full-blown sociopath who deserved to be hauled off to prison.
