Hope I spelled that right, my computer says I didn't.
Anyway, what is a vergence, he says he found it around Anakin?

The same as what Mace Windu calls a "shatterpoint," I would guess.

    Basically an anomaly I think.

Not really. A shatterpoint is a critical point upon which everything is held. In a physical object, smashing the shatterpoint will destroy the entire object, in more metaphysical terms a shatterpoint is an important junction on which future events hang in the balance.

By vergence, Qui-Gon was speaking of the singularly powerful convergence of the Force on Anakin. It's like a way of saying the Force has come together to form, bind and surround this one thing. Basically, it's just a fancy way of saying Anakin has an unheard of connection to the Force.

It's a mystical way of saying "ZOMG this kid is POWERFUL!"

vergence: A measure of the convergence or divergence of a pair of light rays, defined as the reciprocal of the distance between a point of reference and the point at which the rays intersect.

converge: 1a. To tend toward or approach an intersecting point: lines that converge.
    b. To come together from different directions; meet.
    2. To tend toward or achieve union or a common conclusion or result.

I think Qui-Gon meant convergence. The Force is the lines that are coming together, meeting at an intersecting point, which is Anakin.

The fact that Mace Windu, played by Samuel L. Jackson, uses this term (in the EU), is, presumably, a nod to one of Jackson's earlier film roles: Elijah Price in M. Night Shyamalan's "Unbreakable".

Vergence... a measure; a way of measuring.

I think he meant vergence. [face_peace]

The measurement is Qui-Gon taking Anakin's blood sample to measure his midichlorians, but I don't see how you can "encounter" a measurement or a way of measuring. They already knew what midichlorians were and how to measure them.

    plus:

    YODA: A vergence, you say?

I think Yoda would know if he meant a simple midichlorian count.

    MACE: Located around a person?

    Mace says it right here.

QUI-GON: A boy... his cells have the highest concentration of midi-chlorians I have seen in a life form.

Qui-Gon refers to the (con)vergence as a boy, and that the midichlorian count is the measurement.

    I think he meant convergence.

Regardless, it's just a fancy way of stating the importance of Anakin.
