Yes. I remember when it was first revealed and it just sounded…perfect.

I totally get, and respect Lucas's drive for innovation, and lots of movies have advanced what he started in lots of films/ways we like in other movies to this day. So I get the move to digital, but it just doesn't look as good. TPM was his last film movie, hence why its the best-looking of the PT films.

Digital didn't look as good at the time. It looked kinda cheap. Today, however, there are lots of great filmmakers who film digitally and it looks phenomenal. All of Villeneuve's films, for example. Greg Fraser shot Rogue One with digital cameras and it's the best-looking Star Wars film from a cinematography standpoint. And even Malick has moved to digital. George was bleeding-edge at the time, and that's why the prequels post-TPM often look like prototypes. He used the last two films to experiment with his tech. Just as Peter Jackson did with the Hobbit. I applaud the technological innovation, but it didn't make for the best-looking films. ROTS, in my view, is the ugliest of all.

    ROTS
Best score, best action, and best emotional moments of the prequel trilogy. I like a lot of the ways it connects the dots to the original trilogy.

Yeah, that whole, 'they walked, so you can run,' is true here. Now digital can look great depending on the director/cinematographer, but yeah it was rough when George was leading the way. I don't know, I think AOTC might be uglier than ROTS, but it's a coin toss. Each have things I think are better than the other, and visa versa.

Revenge of the Sith is the best on a technical level but I have a certain fondness for TPM that sometimes makes it take the spot.

In my opinion, ROTS is the best and most tragic chapter of the PT. I've come to love AOTC so much, that it's actually my most viewed PT movie :) There are not many moments I remember from TPM, as it's my least viewed SW movie.

The Phantom Menace. To me it is a masterpiece, and the most operatic of the Prequels. I can tolerate Jar Jar because of Lord Maul.

Revenge of the Sith is the darkest entry and worth savoring.

Revenge of the Sith is my favourite and for a long time I watched it religiously and despite the occasional misstep it resonates the most with me out of the entire Lucas saga. I enjoy all three prequels and although I can recognise that TPM and AOTC could have been better in particular areas, I can also recognise that they're much better films than their detractors will ever acknowledge. The writing is really thought provoking.

For example, the enslavement of the Skywalker's and Padmé's disgust at the ineffectiveness of the Republic's anti-slavery laws in TPM ties into the moral and legal contradiction of the Republic relying on a slave army to fight against the Separatists in AOTC and ROTS. None of our heroes question, even briefly, the implications that are raised.

Then there's the warning in AOTC about the abuse of science and nature to create an army of genetically modified human beings who lack free will and exist to fight and die. They're expendable because they can be mass-produced on a Fordist level and are not drawn from the Republic's communities. These themes went largely ignored by critics who were more interested in deriding Lucas' usage of CGI.

The Clone Wars series does deal with the bonds the Jedi form with Clone Troopers and addresses to extent the moral paradox as we see clones become sentient and have distinct personalities.
However, your points still stand. I would add that Anakin exchanges one slavery to the Hutts and Watto for the slavery of the Jedi Order and all their rules. The trafficking of souls is happening in many spheres, the Jedi, The Republic with the Clones, and more. What is great is GL handles it in a less preachy way, allowing it to speak for itself in the middle of a war.

I'll have to check it out. :)

An additional observation that I should've added in my previous post is that the Kamino scenes are particularly disturbing when you realise that what passes for the Clones' brief childhood is essentially the beginning of basic training and it's a subtle statement on our real world child soldiers.

In fact, it bore correlations with a film from the 80s that was based on true events in which schoolchildren spend their gym class in physical preparation for participating in their country's war.

That's a good point. We can see pattern of slavery throughout Anakin's life because come to think of it, he later exchanges those forms of servitude to one involving Palpatine and the Sith.

    Agreed. :)

Those scenes of the children clones with headsets on also brings to mind how the youth of nations are being plugged in now, and trained for war with highly realistic war video games like Call of Duty; in fact the US Army admits their simulators are exactly like the Call of Duty Games.
We also see the same with the Jedi Younglings and Yoda, being trained in the lasersword. The claims Jedi aren’t soldiers by Master Windu is laughable.

Anakin indeed is a slave to Palpatine, “You don’t know the power of the dark side, I must obey my Master.” If Vader had slayed Palpatine as is the way of the Sith, then he’d be free and could rule.

Revenge of the Sith. My second favourite Star Wars movie, after Star Wars (1977). I consider Revenge of the Sith a masterpiece of Star Wars.

Definetly revenge of the Sith, which is also my favorite star wars movie. It connects the prequels and the clone wars to the rest of the movies. Its also objectively the most important movie in the series to the overall story, i mean, order 66 happened, the empire was established, and anakin turned to the dark side. It was also much better written then TPM and AOTC, and overall felt like a better quality film.

Objectively I'd say Revenge of the Sith is the best prequel considering that it's literally a masterpiece (i think we all agree on that) but my personal favorite is TPM because i LOVE seeing how the galaxy is supposed to work outside of wars and the empire and all that. I love seeing how the structure of the Jedi order is supposed to be and how the Senate is supposed to run and all that. Also, Naboo is literally beautiful and so is Coruscant. The story is meaningful but it's also one of the more lighthearted star wars movies in my opinion and it's very like, emotionally satisfying to watch? I am also just very fond of Qui-Gon and little Anakin, they're two of my favorite characters in star wars ever. AND THE MAUL/QUI-GON/OBI-WAN FIGHT? imo most well choreographed fight in all of star wars it's so amazing to watch. It's fascinating in pretty much every way, as well as endearing, satisfying, lighthearted, and funny. Basically perfect in my opinion.

ALSO PADAWAN OBI-WAN ????? forget my entire paragraph that's reason enough.

AotC. It's got a little of everything: adventure, romance, camp, comedy, mystery, tragedy... all these different elements coming into play and foreshadowing what's to come.

ROTS is the best film but the most creative and novel material is in TPM.

Really, almost everything that's truly memorable or iconic about the prequels is in TPM.

    - The insanely cool Maul

    - The gorgeous silver royal starship that should have been the trilogy's version of the MF but somehow never got used again

    - Jar Jar

    - Gunga City

    - Podracing

It's not as strong of a film as ROTS, but visually it's the best and it has more memorable and iconic material.

Didn't we see it in the opening of AOTC where it gets blown up? And another version is what takes Padme and Anakin to Tatooine, and Geonosis in that same film. Then it's in ROS when Padme goes to Mustafar, and later what Obi-Wan takes Padme to Polis Massa.

But agree, such a pretty ship. Glad they re-introduced Nubian starships in a Disney + series. Which means models of it!
