"No.. I call it aggressive negotiations."

The entire fireplace scene. Bleh. I feel for Hayden. He was this practically unknown actor, who's suddenly launched onto the SW platform, and then is forced to deliver IMHO, some of the worst lines in cinematic history. I can't imagine a more cruel thing to do to an actor than give him lines like: "You are in my very soul, tormenting me." "I wish I could wish.." "From the moment I met you, not a day has gone by when I haven't thought of you." "The thought of not being with you makes my stomach turn over - my mouth goes dry. I feel dizzy. I can't breathe." "I'm haunted by the kiss you should never have given me." etc He has tons of horrendous lines.. but luckily, he's such a skilled actor, that he softens their blow.

"This party's over." I've always thought that that line was hilarious.. ;)

But the worst offender, IMHO, is: "I truly.. deeply.. love you."
    Incredibly melodramatic and just hilarious.

Ok, I'll jump on it as well as say most of the fireplace scene. I felt for Hayden, though, I really did. Coming from a theatre backround myself, I know what it feels like to sometimes have to say lines you might not be fully...thrilled about!
He did a good job with what he had to work with... and besides, who the heck really knows what kinda gobbledegook spills outta your mouth when you're 19 and in love? I know I've probably said some pretty stupid things when I was younger! :)

But the "wish I could wish my feelings away" probably tops it.

There was a British movie magazine that printed a spoof of the fireplace scene, among others (it was either Empire or Total Film), and it was hilarious:

Anakin: I wish I could just wish away my feelings by wishing a wish with which one wishes!

Padme: Gee, and George had help with the script, too.

    and:

Obi-Wan (fighting with Dooku): You can DEFLECT Force lightning? I really ought to tell Luke about that someday!

But anyways...good and bad, I love it all.

Padme : "Perhaps with merely your presence, the mystery surrounding this threat will be revealed."
It just comes out so awkwardly.

    Jedi girl : "Hiyaaaa!"
Possibly the worst moment in the film.

Just about all of the fireplace scene dialogue made me cringe, especially the line where Anakin tells Padme she is in his very soul. Other than that scene though the dialogue didn't bug me that much. Sure many of the lines in AOTC were cheesy, but so are lines in plenty of other movies if you over analyze the dialogue enough.

Another line that irritates me is when Mace says to Obiwan "If the prophecy is true, then your padawan is the only one who can bring balance to the Force."

I think its the was Sam Jackson says it. He's cocky with the line and he's saying it like we know what he means by bringing "balance to the force." Its frustrating.

"Oh, you know, Master, I couldn't find a speeder I really liked, with an open cockpit... and with the right speed capabilities..."

A really minor line, but it stood out to me as being particularly badly read by Hayden. Not sure why they couldn't re-dub that one in post-production.

Also Threepio's schtick after saying "Die Jedi dogs!". It didn't make me cringe, but I thought it should've been cut.

That speeder line annoys me too now that I think about it.

The only line I cringe at is the "I don't like sand..." speech by Ani.

Miss yelling Jedi ARRRRR was not one of my favorites.

"We have Artoo with us"... blech.

    Initially I hated the fireplace scene, but it grew on me quite a bit. I have to admit I've said worse at age 19. After he told me that he wanted someone to share the sunsets with, I told a guy I wanted to help him put bologna on cars. {cringe}

"Well, shut me down!" is so bad it's good.

The fireplace scene ain't great but I justify if by reckoning that Ani probably isn't really used to chating up chicks after being cloistered away in the jedi temple half his life so that's why he's so cheesball.
But the worst line is still 'That's possible he's just returned from a border dispute on Ansion' Don't ask me why, I just have an irrational hatred with the way Sam delivers this.
In general though AOTC has some brilliant dialogue. Especially Palpatine- 'I love Democracy' and 'But who would have the courage to make such a radical amendment?'
(The exchange of expressions between Mas Ameeda and Palps here is classic)

    Padmé: I truly . . . deeply . . love you.

Cringe. Every. Single. Time. I hear it. Ya know how most lines, if you hear them enough, it just kind of glosses over, and doesn't really bother you anymore? Not that one. Cringe inducing, without fail.

The dialogue and the way she says it doesn't make me cringe, but it seems a little over the top. I just didn't belive she loved him yet, truely and deeply at that! If she was a little more conflicting with it, it might have been a little more beliveable. Like,

"I think our lives are about to be destroyed anyway." Then maybe she leans in for a kiss. He leans in. Then kissy kissy. Then maybe she does this big exale, then says "Oh, I love you Ani, ...Anakin." Then they kiss again! :)

I think that would have been a little more beliveable. Sometimes it's not in what you say that makes it the truth.

Agree. It's up there with the song in Return of the Jedi, although thankfully much shorter. I don't know why it irritates me. I guess it is because seeing a twelve year old girl trying to act smart with a lightsabre doesn't quite click on screen.

Everything else though I have no problems with.

BLEH...every line that came from Anikan's mouth was pure horror.*holds back puke* And all lines coming from Padme that had to DO with Anikan were pure horror. Basically any line about Anikan stunk. And also the mom-dying scene. *ok ok deep breaths..I can make it through this* Lordy that is a load of sod. Grrrr....especially when 'Ani' *shudders* says that 'stay with me' thing.*turning green*

"What made me cringe was Jar Jar still talking like an idiot. I don't know why they had to make him so annoying."

Aww, come on. What about "Dellow felegates!" That was a great subtle line.

I am starting to warm up more to the love scene dialogues, but I still have a problem with "If you follow your thoughts through to conclusion..." Conclusion just isn't the right word. But I can understand why Anakin says the things he does. He's never been alone with a girl before, and he's trying to get his feelings out in a way he thinks all girls would fall over for. It's poetry. You can tell that he made up that speech earlier on in the day, saving it for that night. ;)

Yea, it had some cheesy dialogue, but nothing really made me cringe. I liked Anakin's sarcasm with the whole "Oh, you know Master, I couldnt find a speeder..." It reminds me of something I would say to someone.

By today's cynical standards, all Star Wars dialogue is considered "wooden" and "cringeworthy" (quoting the buzzwords often used).

I always had this impression that fans liked Star Wars for it's corny dialogue and acting.

*shrug* I guess it's only been on the internet that I've noticed this hostile attitude toward these new films. I've been quite puzzled about it.

I've always loved the Star Wars style. I will fully admit that I thought the fireplace scene in Attack of the Clones was very well done. It was passionate and sincere. It was the first time I had the slight impression that Lucas put something a bit more personal in Star Wars. I've been deeply in love before. It felt genuine, although I haven't been in an extreme situation such as Anakin and Padmé's.

Sincerity is something that is missing from a lot of movies lately. When The Phantom Menace came around it felt like a place of comfort away from the cynicism of modern life.

I thought at least Star Wars fans would appreciate it, but I guess I was wrong.

I didn't cringe at any lines in Attack of the Clones.

I suppose that puts me into the small minority, as far as the internet opinion goes.

    Guess what? I don't care.

That seems to be the biggest misconception about Anakin's words to Padmé. Anakin is being sincere with his feelings. He isn't just trying to say something poetic to get Padmé to fall for him. I don't know why so many people seem to think this.

    Sincerity, people... sincerity....

    Jeez, where to start?

    - The whole fireplace scene

    - "I don't like sand"

    - "Seeing you alive brings warm feelings to my heart"

    - All of Threepio's puns

    - That obnoxious "YAAAA!" Jedi girl

    - The "skills with our lightsaber" line.

    - "As have you...far more beautiful I mean"

    - Everything said by Boba Fett. GOD, that kid's annoying. "Dah! Daun We heah!"

Sadly, I think even TPM had better dialogue than AOTC. If the lines were just a little better, I'd like it a lot more. (it's my least favorite of the 5)

    1. "....that creep is going to end up deep fried"

    2. Pretty much everything that came out of the robo-waitress' mouth in the diner

    3. "around the survivors a perimeter create."

    4. "to the command center...take me"

    5. "I'm just a simple man trying to make my way through the universe."

    6. Pretty much the whole fireplace scene

    7. Pretty much the whole scene before Anakin and Padme are about to be executed

Advent: I'm not saying he wasn't lying to her or trying to get her to feel for him. I'm just saying that this is the first time he's opened up to someone, and a girl no less, so he has a hard time verbally expressing his feelings for her.

Lots of teenagers do. I do, that's for sure. ;)

The speeder chase dialogue made me cringe... uggghh... "I couldn't find a speeder that I really liked, with the... bla bla bla...", "If forgot you don't like to fly" , "I'm deeply sorry, my master", "If you'll excuse me" and the 1000 times Anakin says "Master" before the nightclub entrance [face_plain] ......

    OBI-WAN: Anakin!
ANAKIN: She went into that club, Master.
OBI-WAN: Patience. Use the force, Think.
    ANAKIN: Sorry, Master.
OBI-WAN: She when in there to hide, not to run.
    ANAKIN: Yes, Master.
OBI-WAN: Next time try not to lose it.
    ANAKIN: Yes, Master.
OBI-WAN: This weapon is your life!
    ANAKIN: I try, Master.
OBI-WAN: Why do I get the feeling you are going to be the death of me?!
    ANAKIN: Don't say that Master...
    OBI-WAN: This dialogue sucks
    ANAKIN: Yes, Master
    OBI-WAN: You suck too
    ANAKIN: I'm sorry, Master
OBI-WAN: Stop repeating "master", I'm getting sick of it
    ANAKIN: I'll try, Master
    OBI-WAN: Don't do that again
    ANAKIN: What, Master?
    OBI-WAN: STOP IT!!!!
    ANAKIN: Yes, Master!
    OBI-WAN: AAARRRGGGGHHHH!!!
    ANAKIN: What's wrong, Master?

Obi-Wan takes his lightsaber & kills Anakin.

    ;)

    *dies*

    But that's all.

Well, the only piece of dialogue that just doesn't suit (because of the edits I think) is (in the Padme packing her things scenes)

    "Anakin... you've grown up!"

    ?[face_plain]
