Ireland was before I'd ever been to the PNW, but I'd also go greener on Ireland still

My cousin in Armagh works a shillelagh farm. It's like visiting Middle Earth.

Funny how I'm always attracted to green places. Guess it's true what they say. The grass is always greener....

I grew up and lived in New England my entire life, but oddly enough, don't really identify with this area. At least I don't think I do. The local culture seems to be only interested in its 5 sports teams - the Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins, Celtics, and lastly, but most importantly, Dunkin Donuts.

And I don't really care about any of them. I hate the cold. Don't ski. I don't find myself fitting in with the New England Conservatives here, or the blue color Trumpies, or even the out of touch fake-ish liberals for that matter either. Many people here are actually traditionalists, despite whatever party they align with.

I'm not sure what it is frankly. And weirdly, when strangers first meet me, some assume I'm from Europe, or just "someplace else". And I can't wait to move.

I'm usually also regarded as someone who "must be from somewhere in Europe" - and that started long before my accent started drifting towards Scottish....

Born and raised in North Carolina and lived here all my life except for five years in Virginia. I love my state’s sports (you only think you understand Tobacco Road rivalries if you haven’t lived here) and geography, but the weather is overrated—once you leave the mountains, the best I can say about it is that it’s better than Florida. Which is also the best I can say about the politics—for now. I love being in Charlotte because it is easy to find people who think like me, and my local representatives usually vote according to my values. But Charlotte also has a lot of transplants from the Northeast and blue areas of the Midwest. So I don’t know what that says about what regions I identify with.

Born and raised in London, an amazing city that I barely identify with at all, these days, though I love to visit.

My mum's side are Irish beef and dairy farmers, and I moved to a small village in Kent for 18 years as pastoral is me all over. My dad's side are village folk from Ireland also. I identify deeply with rural UK and Ireland in general. I moved to Scilly in January, and despite struggling with accommodation I love these little islands more than I can say. About 90% of my food comes from the islands and neighbouring Cornwall now, which is brilliant. Scilly is like nowhere else in the UK: sub-tropical, crime-free, stunningly beautiful and peaceful beyond words.

I also have a deep affiliation with Sub-Saharan Africa. If I believed in reincarnation, I'd probably convince myself that my recent past lives were spent there.

Also France: the country that has sussed diet better than anywhere; I just seem to make lots of French friends.

I spent 15 years living in Australia and found it as alien a place to live the day I left, as the day I arrived.

Born in Norrland -- Västerbotten province to be specific-- and I still speak with a thick northern accent, but have lived down south in Värmland for fifteen years. I probably identify more with Värmland at this point if I'm being honest, as I've lived here for most of my adult life, but I'm still a northerner at heart.

I didn't see these options in the poll though.

I’m a citizen of Italy and the US - born in the latter but to parents born in the former, and have spent a good part of my life in both places. I live in Italy now and have also lived in the UK.

For now, that places me in the “Other Europe” category. I’m really proud of being an Other European. We have the best cannoli here.
These same people are often quite condescending when talking to people that don’t speak English…anyway. I once saw a Karen go on a proper rant when a waiter in a small Italian town didn’t speak English well enough to understand her complicated request. When she told him he should learn better English, he asked her “How is your Italian?” She didn’t like that.

Columbia, South Carolina USA. For better and for worse.

Born in Maryland right outside DC, almost all of my (known) lineage is from England, with a pinch of German. (I can trace my ancestry back to 1200 in the Midlands of England!) My family moved to the Carolinas when I was at an early age. I count Carolina Beach, NC (just outside Wilmington) as my childhood hometown, but I've lived in Columbia, SC the vast majority of my life.

The politics down here sucks, and it's disquieting seeing gun shop ads (and gun shops) here in the suburbs. Downtown Columbia is a nice blue pocket in an otherwise very red state, however. Weather-wise, it's too hot and humid down here for my liking (though the winters are nice and mild). The beaches are pretty but overcrowded with tourists during peak season. Much like AF83's post about North Carolina, the mountains are where it's at down here, though there are fewer of them here than in our northern counterpart. Caesars Head State Park is literally my favorite place in the entire country--you can see for miles around, and on clear days, you can see into different states.

The one thing both Duke and UNC fans can agree on unequivocally, now and forever.

As an American who lives in the Deep South, the few times I've traveled to Britain or continental Europe, I have been inwardly giddy whenever someone guesses I'm Canadian. :p

Similar boat. Have I spent more time in the States? Yes. Do I feel at home there? No. I doubt I'll still have my American citizenship 10 years from now.

I'm not sure I identify with it much, but-- and this may come as a shock to people-- I've lived in the United States of America for my entire life.
