Anakin kneeling before a very devilish looking Emperor, reminded me of any movie where a human makes a pact with the devil. They even had Palps look and sound demonic. I watch that part over and over again.

Palps's demonic face also reminded me of "mars attacks".

"Could that double as Van Helsing?

Bingo! No one else fills the shoes but Obi Wan.

Now if we could supress the temptation to go into the Wizard of OZ comparisons. We already have a Male witch.

The Magna-Guards' staffs reminded me alot of
the staffs that Sark's Guards used in Tron

Yes this movie is full of deja vu... Palpatine's transformation scene strongly reminded me of two things:

    1) Green Goblin from Spiderman, particularly just after Mace kicks his lightsaber away (his hair also reminded me of Mark Twain, lol) and "Once more the Sith will rule the galaxy!"

    2) Maybe I'm off my rocker, but for some reason Jim Carrey kept flashing in my mind during the scene, especially during "Power! Unlimited Power!!" I'm not sure why I was reminded of Jim, perhaps something from Bruce Almighty, Truman Show, or The Mask? I don't know... any thoughts??

The only line in that scene which felt like the Palpatine I remember from RotJ was "Do what must be done Lord Vader" where he has his childish accent thing... Still, McDiarmid is incredible.

not implying anything but didnt anyone notice the similarity between the buzz droids and the sentinels of the matrix?

both stick to ships and then digs holes in them to destroy them completely!

Lucas's mentor Francis Ford Coppola Directed Bram Stokers Dracula starring Gary Oldman.

I see great similarities in Sidious and Dracula from that version.

The Wardrobe, The make up, The hair, The position of the hands, The hissing of the Voice, The way Anakin bows before him just like Keanu Reeves bows before Dracula.

    It is Uncanny.

Oh and that cool little Astromech Droid reminds me alot of the one in the Original Movies.

    Its Uncanny. :)

Interesting you brought up Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula, it seems the overall impression we get of Vader now is very much like the impression Coppola was going for with his update of Dracula, there is a strong parallel, powerful warriors who lose their souls when they turn their backs on who they were, making a pact with the dark side, due to loss of love, both are scary and cold, yet sad and somewhat tortured by their past loss of love.

I really think GL did that purposely and I thought it was awesome when I saw it. The alien/man in the spacesuit watching Padme's ship first arrive there is just like the astronauts watching the ship arrive in 2001.

I knew that scene looked familiar, but I couldn't place it for the life of me!!

    Did anyone else notice this?

I just got back from seeing ROTS, for the 4th time, and I noticed this. In the scene, before Obi-Wan comes from below, riding Boga, you see a little Utapuan getting tossed off another Veractyl, and hanging on to the reign reminded me of the scene in ANH, when the Ronto gets startled by a speeder, and leans back, knocking off one Jawa, while the other Jawa hangs onto the reign, and just hangs there.

If you people noticed this, it is almost exactly the same, except different location, different beings, and different species.

Palpatine = Linda Blair + Gary Oldman as Dracula + Wicked Witch of the West. Love it.

Also Grievous revealing his four lightsabers reminded me of the Witchking and his rediculously huge mace.

I haven't looked to see if anyone else mentioned it, but the close-ups of Obi-Wan and Grievous reminded me of KILL BILL.

When Obi-wan says "I don't think so" the tight close up shots between him and Grievous immediately reminded me of The Bride VS Elle Driver close up shots before they cross swords.

To many movies, you all have seen. Hmmm... :)

Anyway, after Obi-Wan jumps onto GG's wheelbike, they immediately roll into a winding, narrow road, surrounded by cliff walls.

It made me think of the mine chase from The Temple of Doom.

It seems that pretty much anything with Grievous is turning out to be an out-and-out Indiana Jones reference! [face_laugh]

The scene where Obi-Wan is battling General Grievous while on his wheel-bike totally reminded me of the mine cart sequence in "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom." The part where Indy is fighting the thugs side-by-side in the carts.

Cool thing is, there is a recycled sound effect used in "Temple of Doom" in this very seen. Listen closely when Obi-Wan uses the Magna Guard's staff to take off the spikes on Grievous's wheel bike. It is the sound from the beginning of Temple of Doom when one of Lao Che's thugs is shooting at Indy and Willie and they're running behind the big gong. It is the sound of the bullets hitting the gong. Cool stuff.

M'um m'aloo! Can you hear me? I'll try to speak up a bit, but I can't talk too loud -- Jabba's got me trapped down here! Let me lean closer to the hole...

Ah! This is a bit better. M'um m'aloo, everybody! This is Sagila the Jawa, Lyn Me's personal masseur. I'm really sorry that I haven't been able to make my voice heard on the boards recently. No big loss, I guess. Long story short: Jabba got a little tired of Lyn Me, as he gets tired of all of his dancers, and when he threw her into the dungeon, he threw me down, too. A real pain in the juuno, I'll tell you -- I'm trapped down here in the gloom all day with nothing to do except massage a beautiful woman, again and again and again. (We used to have a chess set, but somehow Lyn Me managed to eat three of the black pawns and a white bishop. Don't ask me how.)

Anyway, samani everybody! I'll try to get back on the bantha, as they say, but I can?t make any promises...

So why post now? I mean, besides the fact that I'm only now getting the opportunity to do so? Well, I finally got the chance to see Revenge of the Sith the other day (some Gamorrean guards were watching it, so on my tiptoes I peeked out through the keyhole of the cell) and when I saw this thread I simply had to bring up a point that I hadn?t seen mentioned too much elsewhere:

Revenge of the Sith is greatly influenced by old horror movies!

O.K., maybe that?s not too revolutionary. In fact, a lot of people have evidently noticed that. Still, I'd like to offer my impressions, specifically on characters. I might be wrong here and there -- I'm definitely wrong here and there -- but I think that there are some comparisons that need to be made...

Darth Sidious = Victor Frankenstein, Dracula, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

I admit that Darth Sidious is genuinely evil, unlike many versions of Dr. Frankenstein, but he does "create" Darth Vader in the iconic scene near the end of the film. And as for Dracula... well, it's not as strong as the Frankenstein connection, but I certainly see it there, and it seems that others in this thread do as well. And the Palpatine / Darth Sidious relationship is similar to the relationship between Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (except in this case, of course, Dr. Jekyll is also evil).

    Count Dooku = Dracula

He's a count. Indeed, he's a "Count D." He's played by Christopher Lee, who played Dracula quite famously. He meets his demise through decapitation; fans of vampire movies will acknowledge that vampires are often killed through decapitation rather than through the (perhaps now more famous) staking.

General Grievous = Igor (or, if you prefer, "Ygor")

They both carry out the dirty work for Dr. Frankenstein. They both walk with a hunch. They both suffer from ailments (Ygor in Son of Frankenstein from a broken neck, for example, and General Grievous from coughing fits). They both speak with thick accents (O.K., General Grievous sounds Laotian to me, not Hungarian, but you get the point). They're both tougher and smarter than they let on.

    Tion Medon = The Mummy

Plo_Koen mentioned Nosferatu above, and I agree that that movie could very well be an inspiration. Tion Medon is ratlike in many ways, for example. I was thinking the Mummy, however. Take a look -- his collar even resembles an Egyptian mummy's headdress.

    The Wookies = Wolfmen

Reaching? Maybe... but they are similar, nyeta?

    and, of course

    Darth Vader = Frankenstein?s Monster

I won?t go into details here; the relationship is obvious.

    And as for...

Oh, poodoo! Lyn Me's just woken up, and she wants yet another massage. Ugh. All right... talk to you later... taa baa and ubanya!

Grievous vs. Obi Wan = Indy fights / mine cart - I definately thought of that on first viewing

Yoda's departure / E.T.'s departure - got that one - bit naf and uneccessary I thought

R2 electrocuting S Battle Droid and being kicked over - Mos Eisley special edition 'droid knocks down scout droid' scene (can't remember names) - again, very bad idea this 'comedy'

2001 / Polis Massa - got that one too

+ numerous Ray Harryhausen nods (Boga, Grievous)

close ups of Obi Wan's and Grievous's eyes during fight - not sure which film but new for SW shots

new shot for SW - zoom from long shot of ship into window to see occupants (crash landing on Coruscant)

I thought a lot of the swooping, vertigo inducing 'scenic' shots were very LOTR + some of the long shots of battlefields too

Something seemed very familiar about the shot of the clone troopers feet stopping, right before they kill Ki Ai Mundi. I am not sure where i have seen this though. Any ideas?

I don't know if this is what you had in mind, but that scene reminds me of a scene in "Doctor Zhivago", where Pasha is in a trench and the hated commander was trying to get the troops to follow him, and no one was going to do that. But Pasha gets up and says, "Come on, men," and the troops follow him. Of course, Pasha doesn't get shot in the back by the troops.

    * Mace's strut/walk on his way to Palpatine's office reminded me of Pulp fiction when Jules and Vince do the job at the start.

    * The atmospherics of the opera scene reminded me of the masquerade scene in Eyes wide Shut - that eerie music.

    * Not only did Yoda's excape craft remind me of ET, but it also reminded me of DR. Evil's space craft in Austin Powers.

    * Kashyyk location reminded me of the film 'the beach.'

    * The birth scene room reminded me of the infirmary from the first Alien film.
