    I present this as Evidence.

Usenet refers to the distributed online bulletin board system begun in 1979 at Duke University. Usenet users can post messages in newsgroups that can be read or contributed to by anyone with access to the Internet and special newsreader software. Over the years, the number of newsgroups has grown to the thousands, hosted all over the world and covering every conceivable topic.

Google Groups contains the world's most comprehensive archive of postings to Usenet, dating back to 1981. Google Groups eliminates the need for newsreading software and lets you search this archive in the same way you would search HTML pages on the Internet. You can also use Google Groups to post your own comments to an existing Usenet newsgroup.

google was created until 1998. therefore the usenet messages we trasnferred to google. these were so called online bulletin board system, mostly for news among the universities. they had no rights to be talking about movies, it was about news and policies. they misued the system and wasted its capacities. as we all do, coming in here to waste time talking about this crap.

conclusion? this has absolutely nothing to do with ROTS. and must be taken to the saga boards and locked appropiately. thanks.

Make sure you check out the discussion about the "gravi-sleds" on Endor.

    Priceless.

Their probably legit, after reading them, but THEY DID NOT TAKE PLACE ON THE INTERNET. Somewhere else...don't know where, but somewhere else...

    The ignorance is astounding sometimes.

"The cores forming the Internet started out in 1969 as the ARPANET, created by the United States Department of Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA). Some early research which contributed to the ARPANET included work on decentralised networks, queueing theory, and packet switching. On January 1, 1983, the ARPANET changed its core networking protocols from NCP to TCP/IP, marking the start of the Internet as we know it today."

Look at the addresses, that's a pretty good hint of the protocols.

these were so called online bulletin board system, mostly for news among the universities. they had no rights to be talking about movies, it was about news and policies. they misued the system and wasted its capacities. as we all do, coming in here to waste time talking about this crap.

    So what?

This is far too long for anyone here to read, but this guy could be half the psoters here:

These are some impressions of Return of the Jedi.

The visuals are nothing short of fantastic. I especially liked Jabba's
    floating `barge'.

Before I go further with specifics, let's hit a few general points.
SW-ANH and TESB were good enough to stand by themselves. NO WAY for this
flick. There was very little continuity of action, and contrary to
other folks who have said that Mark Hamill can't act, I feel that he had
the only believably written part in the story. The dramatic pace of the
show was very badly handled, and many important scenes weren't believable.

    Now specifics.

Jabba was ok, but there some things that weren't believable. The
glimpse after Luke destroys the Jabba's monster where some of Jabba's
folk mourn for it is not realistic. In a place such as Jabba's hall
where fear and pleasure alternate, it seems unlikely that the guards,
who might at any moment be terminated, would have had either the time
(high turnover in a place like that) or the inclination to gain
affection for the beast when they stood a chance of being a meal
for it sooner or later. And it just doesn't WORK in the film.
And the pace was wrong. The original picture of Jabba and his hall
was a little comical, but it grew frightening very quickly. From a purely
technical point of view, the comic relief should have been held awhile.
When Leia was releasing Han, she said she was ``Someone who loves you ...
a lot.'' This was not all that realistic. Think about it -- she is
trying to get him out of there. The greeting card schamltz would have
waited. And we would have seen Leia PROVE her love by enduring Jabba's
abuse. How many women would allow themselves to be raped by another
species (submitting to bestiality) in order to pull off an impossible
rescue of a man who might not love them? This should have been brought
into sharper focus. Even a remark from Han would do it.

When Leia strangles Jabba, it seems to be a little too pat, too easy.
It seemed too melodramatic, as well.

And Jabba, being apparently a lover of torture (applied to others) would
probably have carried the cat-and-mouse with Luke a little further. Next,
why did Luke wait until they were about to make him walk the plank before
fighting? After all, he could have jumped/flew out of the monsters
pit immediately. Was he just playing cat-and-mouse with Jabba? If so, his
demeanor with Jabba (``You should have bargained. I will destroy you.'')
was all wrong. Luke would almost certainly have been more coy. And this
is not acting. It is writing. Yes, acting might have saved the day.
(``-offhandedly: You SHOULD have bargained. I -gravely: WILL -quietly:
destroy you.'') But let us not fault Hamill for not being Brando.

In the opening, the introduction reads ``Little does he know that the
Empire is building a new Death Star'' or some such. OUCH! I had to
pull the corncobs out of my ribs -- and it got worse when Luke found out
AFTER rescuing Han abouth the new Death Star. That tidbit of information
was carried into the movie by an unmitigated Deus Ex Machina. If it was
important enough to rate explanation in the opening, why was it tossed
into the plot exposition with that kind of devil-may-care attitude?

In the big scene -- the scene with the Emperor -- the Wrath of the Emperor
is badly handled. He jumps up and gets VERY physical, throwing sparks
all over the place to zap Luke. Why? He does these things with his mind.
It would have been far better if he sat with his eye closed as the sparks
engulfed Luke -- and as Luke resisted by clearing his mind of hatred.
And, just as the Emperor is about to overcome Luke, just as all his
energy and conciousness are focused on Luke's destruction, Vader smites
the Emperor with Luke's light sabre and they both are engulfed in a
blaze of glorious purple (not blue, please) sparks.

Wow, brings back memories. I have boxes full of cassette tapes of programs I wrote for the TI-994A. Some I wrote, others I copied from Games Magazine.

    I was 13 btw.

Some of the responses here have been surprisingly negative. However, I am glad many of you have decided to enjoy those posts like I have. They are certainly legit. Anyone my age knows by the references (i.e. Dungeons and Dragons) that they are legit.

This is a GREAT DAY, and our last chance to be this excited. ENJOY IT!! Don't waste it. I am 33, and told my wife that I was sad that my daughter is only 17-months old, because I wish I could share this with her.

I'm not an expert by any means but this is definitely some BS. I don't see how that kind of technology of a message board was around in 83. It wasn't until 5-6 years ago that style started to become obsolete. Besides, I don't see how someone would have that saved for 22 years. Whether the internet was even around in 83 was another story too.

But it was weird to see posts that supposedly occured the day I was born.

And I thought I was bad for still having a C64 in the garage. Also have a (non-working) Lisa.

And if these are fake, someone must have spent WEEKS writing all that... and has a pretty good memory. I remember discussions like that.

Sure it belongs in the Saga boards, however, there is a guy predicting what the general story for the PT will be...how Anakin is seduced by the Darkside and was unable to say no. This happens in ROTS...thus this being the very first ROTS spoiler.

Was that the TI hobbyist mag that came with a new program printed out in the centerfold every month? That was how I learned pretty much anything worthwhile. I really wish I'd stuck with it. But as fate had it, I discovered punk rock and beer and girls right around that time, and my life was ruined. =)

I seem to remember an article which appeared on the net last summer...
Something about Linda Ronstadt inspiring George Lucas to want to do
another one. Steven Spielberg's name was also mentioned. I haven't
heard anything about it since. Anyone know something out there?

    Now that is just funny...hehe

After wrapping up work on INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM, director
Steven Spielberg and producer Frank Marshall began scouting locations for the
next installment of George Lucas' STAR WARS saga, which Spielberg will direct.
Filming begins this September in Hollywood, a shift from the series' tradi-
tional production base at London's Pinewood Studios. Lucasfilm producer Howard
Kazanjian is said to have insisted on the move for the film, to be titled either
THE OLD REPUBLIC or THE CLONE WARS. Effects will feature ILM's version of the
kind of computer-animated spaceships developed first by rival expert John Whit-
ney, Jr., on view now in Universal's THE LAST STARFIGHTER.
Lucas was widely quoted when RETURN OF THE JEDI was released last year that
he would swear off involvement with the series to take a much-needed rest. Rock
star Linda Ronstadt is said to have rekindled Lucas' interest in STAR WARS. The
couple has been linked romantically in the press. Ronstadt starred in Univer-
sal's version of THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE last year. When asked whether Ronstadt
would appear in the new STAR WARS film or provide songs, sources close to Lucas-
film smiled broadly, but kept mum.

Even back then they bad info...this is great stuff...

"Saw RotJ last night and have to admit I was *extremely* disappointed. Lots
of good stuff, but too much silliness. This may sound strange, but I felt
it to be much less 'real' than the first too. my credibility is willing to
be stretched pretty far, but not that far"

It's so strange to read stuff like this. I was 10 when RotJ came out in theaters and I remember "loving" the film.

It really gives me a new perspective on the "over 25 crowd" vs. the "under 25 crowd" argument floating around recently.

    ...sigh...okay, I'm 32...but I still feel like I'm in the "under 25" whenever I watch a Star Wars flick.

And now, on the verge of "the end of the saga", I can't help but be overwhelmed by nostalgia. And these old newsgroup posts are a poignant look at what the end of that saga was like and how it compares to the present.

I, for one, am happy to spend a few minutes looking backwards while I'm looking forward to tomorrow night.
