I see that starwarsagent is talking out of his fire breating arse again. I was going to quote all of his ignorance but instead I will just mention that the Internet most assuredly did exist in 1983.

Colleges, military bases, and government facilities were all connected. ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network) went live in 1969. That was the beginning of what we now know as the Internet. E-mail was first created in 1972, followed by FTP in 1973. In 1974 the network was officially called the Internet.

The World Wide Web came to life in 1991 due to the design of hypertext and in 1993 we finally saw a graphical browser named Mosaic (which would become Netscape).

By the way, starwarsagent (I laugh everytime I think of that name because I remember when you first used it and tried to tell people you were an actual agent for people working on Star Wars), an Intranet is just an internal network. It can act and look very much like the Internet except that it does not/should not provide access from the Internet.

Yes, I know my stuff, chump. One of my engineering professors was actually part of the ARPANET team.

It's incredible to see how ignorant can people be.
Just because you're young and you don't have ever heard about Spectrums or C64's, just because you don't remember when Ronald Reagan was the president and the Soviets were 'bad', just because jou don't remember that Michael Jackson was once black...
DON'T PRETEND THAT IT NEVER HAPPENED!
The same goes for the older that have NO KNOWLEDGE of technology and just pretend that Internet started a few years ago.
These old message boards are INTERNET, they were created using the very same protocols we use today to post here.
    And they are amazing!

I love when you call me kid, starwarsagent/Homeless Jedi, because it reveals your limitations in an argument. You like to jump into things without checking your facts. You are so sure that you are right (because the voices inside your head tell you that you are) so you never even bother to do the slightest bit of research.

So, call me "kid" as much as you want. You only reveal your own level of maturity and mentality.

Hey, how is your ex-girlfriend Natalie Portman doing? [face_laugh]

Maybe George just scoured these Newsgroup archives to help write ROTS?

    Plot hole! :)

    HA!

"Your other hope is SPEILBERG?!?!? The man has no story sense \\and// none
of the feeling for when an effect will work that Lucas has (can you name any
scene in any of Speilberg's work that carries the immediate impact of the
    opening shot in SW IV? (Don't talk to me about "Closet Cases of the Nerd Kind";
the mother ship is just an oversized and unbelievable Xmas tree ornament which
we never see in a way that gives it scale.) "

    Don't be such a hypocrite! :p

Didn't YOU talk about this A LOT on page 1?

Why can't I talk about it?

Are you saying this now, because you were wrong, and thus you don't like it?

    ...

Anyway, nevermind, what's the topic here then?

Ok, so GL thinks it was the reason there was No negative reactions. Was he wrong on that?

BTW, SWA is really trolling here. [face_plain]

I LOVE this thread, some Mod may disagree, but I think it's relevant cuz GL thinks people only bash now. So we have a relation to ROTS here...

    Was GL right?
    Was Critics right?

What did people thought about Epiosde III back then?

To me, this topic FITS ROTS it's something to look back to more than 20 years ago what fans thought the prequels are gonna be like!

I am gonna post this elsewhere, now Thanks for the info, djslybri!!! :D

I don't know about 1983, but I remember BBS's from the late 80's very well. (Look at my bio.) They served a fairly small amount of people, you had to dial the BBS system directly, there were no local servers, so unless you wanted to pay some serious long distance, you used a BBS in your area. Therefore, everyone you were posting with were from your area code.

They did have SOME graphics by the early 90s, but very primitive, just keyboard characters and stuff, line drawings and such. I remember playing an online game called total war, it was basically RISK. It had a very crudely drawn map, and you played with another user. Back then, most people weren't online everyday, or for very long, so usually it would take weeks or even months to play ONE game. I'd take my turn on Monday, then maybe log in on Thurs and maybe my opponent would have taken his turn by then. Very fun, state of the art stuff back then.

I remember getting to know a girl from a high school a couple of towns over when I was 17, I met her a couple of months later at Sears where she worked and we even dated for a while. First " Internet Romance ", maybe? ;)

So, basically yeah, I'm sure there was a FORM of the internet back then, but it wasn't CALLED the internet and it was definitely NOT worldwide. On the BBS's, the most foreign person I remember ever talking to was from Mexico, and I was in New York. I was taking Spanish in High School at the time, so he was pretty handy.

I remeber my buddy telling me about the pictures he could get (download, before the term was coined, back in the late 80s). Those were the dark times for being a fan. Back in the day, when the prequels were just a dream, when west end games was the only reference material that seemed conclusive. Before Heir to the Empire. I bet alot of you people couldn't even walk by then much less have been born. He got Vader in binary code (1s and 0s) that he could print. Also naked ladys. I feel really old (and drunk). I hope you guys enjoy ROTS. So long, you all have been amusing.

Yep, I remember printing stuff in binary. It only actually looked like a picture when you stood far away!!! And it took like ALL day to download.

For those of you still in diapers at the time, they looked like this:

    OO
    I I
    OO
    I
    I

    Etc, etc.

Yes, you actually DOWNLOADED pictures made like that and they were cool!

    Holocron_Collector,

Internet exists since 1969, It wasnt available to home users though till the early 90s.

But yeah, BBS-ing was a lot of fun. I remember downloading hundreds of messages everynight with my 2.4Kbits modem:)

    Thanks for this.

My favorite is the one guy bashing ROTJ on page 2, saying that the other two films stood on their own and ripping apart little details...goes to show you that there will always be an incontent Star Wars fan somewhere.
