Obi-Wan's anticipating spending a lot of time going backwards and forwards across the galaxy chasing leads, he's just one guy on his own, so why rack up the extra resources and expenses of giving him a bigger ship he may or may not need? He's a Jedi, not a law enforcement officer. He catches the guy, alerts the local authorities and they send round a couple of cops to bung him in a cell until transport can be arranged back to Coruscant. Easy peasy.
Nope, Kamino was in a poorly charted region of space. Who knows where else his search might lead. No way he could assume help from "local cops". In the end Yoda casually says "bring him here". Of course, Yoda was just confirming the obvious. What other options were there? He was a known killer & a Senator was waiting for him to be in custody before she could come out of hiding.
Yes, because Kamino was only intended to be the first stop. Jango being there was totally unexpected and unpredictable. If he's used such a distinctive weapon, the very last place you'd expect an experienced bounty hunter/mercenary to go would be the one planet that produces those weapons, if not for Boba Jango wouldn't have been there at all. Even if Obi-Wan chases him all the way into the Outer Rim, he's pretty sure he can take the guy down and hold him long enough for someone to send help. Apart from which, if Yoda simply says ''bring him here'' and doesn't give any further advice on how, he's quite clearly assuming that Obi-Wan has the wits and the means to do just that with exactly the resources he's got, and Obi-Wan sets off to go catch the guy without requesting any kind of back-up or another, larger craft to hold him in. So a ''bigger ship'' was not at all seen as necessary by either of them, they both think that the 'one man' fighter implicitly has the means to transport one captive prisoner, just not very comfortably perhaps.
Obi-Wan fully expected to track down Jango at some point in his mission. Anakin belived he'd do it quickly. An adequete ship was necessary for Obi-Wan to arrest Jango. It wasn't seen as necessary by Lucas bcs he knew the story. That Obi-Wan failed to get him.
Obi-Wan's ship WAS adequate though. Yoda said to bring Jango in, Obi-Wan set off to do just that. Neither of them mentioned the need for another ship to do so... because they already had one. He'd turned up in it.
I must be missing something. How is a one man starfighter adequate in capturing a prisoner? It's not, but I don't blaming you for thinking it would be. Yoda & Obi-Wan acted as if it'd be fine. That's bcs Lucas wrote the scenes knowing that Obi would fail to arrest him. So he allowed it to play out as if Obi could simply bring him back with him, even though he couldn't. That's the point. It's not a huge deal but it is more lazy writing from George. He probably thought "of course Obi would take a ship that can hold a prisoner but why should I design a new ship when it won't be needed in this story?". Or perhaps Lucas just misses & doesn't think of these types of details.
Stick him in the cargo hold. Get rid of some of the junk that he used to fool the missile later on. A one man ship has one pilot, but there's plenty of other room you can stick a guy if you don't care much for his comfort. It won't be a pleasant trip for Jango but he can be brought back in Obi-Wan's ship if needed. Occam's Razor - the simplest solution is often the correct one. Obi-Wan didn't ask for another ship because he didn't need another ship, it's that simple. The Jedi thought it was going to be fine, because it would have been fine right up to the point that Jango got away - which was nothing to do with the ship Obi-Wan turned up on.
Unless he planned on slicing Jango up Darth Maul style he's not going to fit in the spare parts compartment. Edit: He'll need more than Occam's Razor to squeeze Jango into that compartment. Not possible.
Totally possible. There was enough junk in there it looked like the whole ship had been blown up when it was let out. One short Bounty hunter can be fitted in no problem.
To be fair... Yoda did say ''bring him back.'' He never actually said to do it alive.... or in one piece.
He also said "Question him, we will." This is Star Wars, not D&D - and Jedi don't have Speak With Dead - leaving aside that whole Force Ghost thing.
I could see the storage compartment being accessible from the cockpit, like on an X-Wing (at least, I assume that's how Luke got the gear for his camp out of the X-wing, rather than diving into the water and opening the X-wing's belly). Thus, Obi-Wan can open the access to the cockpit and make sure that Jango can breathe in there, even if it's a little cramped.
That's nice of him. Maybe pat him on the head occasionally too. Isn't there a Republic version of the Geneva Convention? Something about not keeping a prisoner in a glove compartment?
Darth Downunder that's his job ! he's a jedi , not a health & safety officer . jedis do this kind of stuff all the time . I don't know how you've not noticed this , it happens all the time in these films . yep , there's more people involved in the conspiracy , so how big do you want Kenobi's ship to be now ? I'll ask again - how would a bigger ship have helped Kenobi in that ^ situation there ? .
Well his mission was to find & catch one bounty hunter. So that's what he needed to allow for. As Yoda said, until Jango is caught Padme would have to stay in hiding.
You act like this is Obi-wan's first dance. What makes you think that he and Qui-gon or Anakin haven't been down this road before? That they haven't dealt with assassins and bounty hunters who were just like Jango? So this whole time Obi-wan's been an active field Jedi, he's never once had to tango with assassins and bounty hunters? That's very specious reasoning. Yes, Obi-wan can and has already profiled Jango. A bounty hunter like Jango wouldn't have made a condition with that Kaminoans to have an unaltered clone that would serve as his son, if he was mentally unstable and would be willing to kill him. Nor would Jango be hired to carry out his task if he was mentally unstable. Jango may be cold blooded, but he's not heartless. Problem, this assumes that any ally would come to his aide. Much less know that he's not in control of Slave I, which would be in hyperspace before they would show up. To date, hyperspace has shown to be not the same as warp space in "Star Trek", where we see starships actively pursue each other. And not just that, but they would still show up regardless of taking Slave I or not. Obi-wan can force the landing ramp down by either using his Lightsaber or the Force. Also, this assumes that Boba would believe that Obi-wan wouldn't kill Jango. Not to mention that Obi-wan could probably use a mind trick to get Boba to lower the ramp. We don't know how strong willed Boba is at this point in time.
The real reason is that Obi-Wan arresting Jango and going back to Coruscant would be a whole lot less cool than the battle in the rain and all the shenanigans on Geonosis that were a direct consequence of Jango's escape. What size ship Obi-Wan did or didn't have is entirely besides the point - he would have failed anyway and any viewer should have realised as much given this was only about halfway through the movie...
What does that matter when he was planning his mission & choosing his ship back on Coruscant?? You saying he thought "This bounty hunter with the poison darts & jetpack is bound to have a ship I can steal with enough room for him. If it has any booby traps or tracking devices I'm sure my experience will mean I'll be able to find them. Off I go traveling across the galaxy relying on these assumptions" He did?? Back on Coruscant he profiled him...based on what? You've been watching too much CSI. All irrelevant. What matters is that Obi-Wan left to catch & stop a bounty hunter. The Jedi arrest, they don't execute. So to arrest & bring him back to face justice for murder he needed a ship to lock him up in. It's that simple. So he's going to ask Jango nicely to stand where he is while he goes & hacks at Slave 1 with a lightsaber? Why can't Boba just take off immediately & destroy the Jedi starfighter? If Obi-Wan could easily mind control Boba he would have in the movie. He wouldn't have let him fire the ship's blasters at him. He wouldn't have let his father board the ship. You're just making things up at random now. None of which addresses the absurdity of Obi-Wan's original decision to go off to find & arrest someone with a tiny one-man ship. Exactly. It's a decision from the writer based on story hindsight. Lucas knew Obi-Wan failed & that a more appropriate ship wasn't needed.
I still say if Obi Wan did capture Jango, he would still contact the old folks home and they would arrange the appropriate transport. Btw Yoda was not a happy camper when he told Obi Wan to bring Jango (calling even himself "blind". Obi Wan answered appropriately that he will report back first. Now this is Jedi business, go back to your drinks. MJ
Easier to take the appropriate transport in the first place. Though it'd be amusing to see Obi-Wan & Jango standing around for hours or days waiting for a ride. Wonder what they'd chat about.
No need to chat. Obi Wan will know how to deal with the Kaminoans (remember "that's why I here"?) to keep Jango at Tipoca city till the appropriate transport arrives. Yoda even tells Mace they're going to keep the Senate unawares, about the "plot". Things can be kept hush hush (as I said earlier). But since Jango escaped, matters got more complicated and urgent. MJ
Obi-Wan had known the Kaminoans for 5 minutes. Trusting them is a big risk, esp since they knew Jango for far longer. He could have allies among them. In any case, Obi-Wan needed to allow for not having anywhere to store Jango when he arrested him, back when he chose his ship.
No. The Kaminoans trust the Jedi as Obi Wan showed up. Obi Wan has been more than polite with the Kaminoans even when he was leaving "I won't forget and thank you". After all the Kaminoans are not the recruiters of Jango but Tyranus (it is corroborated with Taun We present). I think you are underestimating the Jedi as far the story goes. From the meeting with the Lama Su, the Kaminoans had no qualms even when Obi Wan seemed surprised about a Clone Army. The Kaminoans trust the Council. MJ
