What were Tatooine and the culture of the Kumumgah like, before the Rakata invaded the planet?

And how exactly did they turn into two distinct species (Jawas and Tusken Raiders)?

We have very little information about this issue, just a few hints in Kotor and from a few panels in DOTJ.

So let's speculate.

 

The Kumumgah were as far we know an advanced race that might have been spacefaring maybe already locally, not far and wide.

When the Rakata nuked and glassed their planet before erosion turned the glass into sand again, the species had two survivor strategies: Underground and aboveground. That lead to a separate evolution of the two branches with smaller Jawas adapted to caves and glowing eyes whereas the Tusken covered their skin and tried to survive on the volatile windy surface.

 

But to evolve into two different species, the population would have needed to split and stay separate for a very long time. I strongly doubt that ten millenia plus or minus a few thousand years would have been sufficient or even realistic. And why didn't these groups contact each other and/or come together before this happened?

 

It's not with out precedent. The Kaminoans suffered a planetary catastrophe and practiced eugenics on themselves to survive. Species like the Arkanians did all sorts of genetic modifications on themselves, essentially creating new species. The Kumumgah were probably advanced enough to do something along these lines.

 

Good point. Just one problem. The Rakata glassed the planet and i believe bombed everything back into a stone age. So i guess there weren't any cities or technological installations on the planet anymore.

 

Radiation from the Rakata bombardment mutated the Kumumgah with Aurek blood type into Sandpeople and mutated Kumumgah with Besh blood type into Jawas. Something like that I'm guessing.

 

We don't know much about them except they were conquered by the Rakata and rebelled and the Rakata glassed the planet. This doesn't tell us much about the Kumumgah themselves except they were obviously dissatisfied with Rakata rule and willing to fight to overthrow them.

 

Yeah, that's why i think it would be great to speculate and make up some theories

 

I like this theory. It brings The Time Machine to mind.
