I have an experiment I would like somebody on the JC to try so I don't ruin my own coffee maker.

I think I posted this notion somewhere around these parts a few weeks ago but I forget. Anyways for those of you who do not understand coffee or coffee maker machines, what you do is pour a bunch of water in there and it boils or something and then drips through this ground up coffee in a filter thingamajig, and then the water gets coffee-fied and drips down into the what do ya call it, the jar thing that holds the coffee.

Well I got to thinking, what would happen if instead of water you were to put in like Dr. Pepper or juice or iced tea or something and what sort of tasting beverage that might create.

I would try it myself, but you see I'm the only one here at home who drinks coffee and I only have the one coffee maker, and if I ruin it I don't feel like buying a new one, and since nobody else likes coffee they surely won't buy a new one. I am kind of concerned what might happen to soda when it gets heated, there's a lot of nonsense in soda. I do not want to impart permanent nonsense chemicals into the coffee filter that will ruin all future coffee, you see?

So somebody please do this and tell me the results, or feel free to theorize on what might happen.

    Princess Tina,
While I applaud you for your familiarity with such largely outdated internet fads as the exploding Diet Coke & Mentos trick, I am still left wondering: What have they to do with a thread about putting various (non-combustible) liquids in a coffee machine?

    Funny response:

    Poop!

    Unfunny response:

Depending on the liquid, you could easily muck up your coffee maker, since the liquids you are asking about have different chemical properties (like boiling ranges; which might overheat your coffee maker), and are ridiculously sticky, so they would likely gum up the interior.

I'm pretty sure you can safely run vinegar through a coffee machine. People do this to dissolve any mineral residue that has built up inside due to their thoroughly nasty tap water. I would not recommend drinking the resulting vinegar-and-mineral-sludge coffee, however. You could substitute it for that 4:45 p.m. burned-and-boiled-down-to-syrup coffee that you find in the breakroom at work, though. Just as an experiment, to see if anyone notices the difference.

Better yet, you could try running Everclear through your coffee maker. If half the volatile compounds boiled off during the brewing process, you would then be left with a perfectly respectable 90-proof cup of coffee. Due to Everclear's . . . purity, no worthless flavorings, additives, or non-toxic substances would remain inside your machine.

It could possibly burst into flame, however. 'Cause Everclear's like drinkable kerosene.

Why would you drink coffee in the first place.

Shoot, fair enough. Instead of coffee, pour the powder of 1,000 pixie stix into the filter of your machine. Then add the Everclear.

People would pay for that, I tell you.

Try putting in Vodka. I hear that's how they make Kahlua.

    Everclear never ends well.
Srsly. 9 out of 10 times it ends with your agreement to God that you'll never drink again if he makes the puking stop. And as a bonus you'll stop masturbating and attend church every Sunday.

The reason I did not list various types of liquor in my original post is because, although I may not have much common sense or awareness of chemicals, I know it is probably a bad idea to put potentially flammable liquid into a machine designed for heating liquid. So stop suggesting this! I'm sure when they make Irish Coffee they don't do it that way.

I am more concerned with the originally listed beverages, however that Quix has said science to me which is disappointing. Nevertheless, somebody should surely try it and see what happens.

Well, you don't have to make a full pot of anything to see if it works...up to the 2 Line should tell you all you need to know without blowing up your machine.

Anyway, I like my coffee black, but I would try milk thru coffee, or maybe milk thru cocoa mix...pot of hot chocolate would be sorta cool I suppose.

Ever boiled milk on a stove? When that nasty skin forms on top? Now put that in your coffee machine...

I have not boiled milk before...and only really drink skim milk, so the skin problem didn't cross my mind. :p
