What would have happened if Luke Skywalker (in ROTJ) told Vader "what about the name Padme?"

Every time I look at that scene, I instinctively say "what about the name Padme?" after Anakin/Vader says what he says.

I seriously am wondering what would happen.

What do you think George Lucas would say if someone asked him that???

Yeah,I think Obi-Wan or the Lars should have told Luke about Padme,i think it could be a "shatterpoint" for Vader to turn away from the darkside.

Well, I don't think, within the SW Universe, Luke didn't know who or wat his mother's name was during ROTJ.

But say Obi-Wan did tell Luke about Padme. And luke was to bring it up to Vader. I think it might send him in some sort of rage. Palpatine might have told him all these years " You killed Padme in your anger" and " If only you hadn't choked her to death my appentice, she would still be here" That he was responsible for the death of padme, and as a result, Vader could have menally kicked himself for allowing himself to kill his wife.

I think if Luke had mentioned Padme on the bridge, then Vader would have taken their duel aboard the Death Star much more seriously... maybe even subconsciouly aiming to "punish" his son for such an audacity as to mention that heartbreaking part of his life... and maybe would have been satisfied with cutting off more of his appendages.

It occurs to me that Vader himself was remembering Padme as he looked between Luke and the Emperor. Vader's inner dialogue: "Palpatine said I killed Padme, yet here is her son; she believed in me, as he does; how could he have been born if I killed her on Mustafar? Perhaps the Emperor has been lying to me all along...", etc.

I believe Padme's name, uttered by Luke in the right context, would have softened Vader all the more, and allowed the spark of Anakin still left in him to emerge all the sooner.

Anakin would become more emotional than he had been for many years. He would kill a bunch more people. But, in the end, I think he would have turned back to the light anyway. If Luke gave him a bunch of treatment "Would Padme have wanted you to kill all these people? You killed her, though. It doesn't matter to you, father", etc., Vader would have gone crazy and then gone into a strange state of mind, where he comes back to the light, but something would happen where he dies.

Or, a song about how killing is bad and the Force is all there is to life.

No not really because Anakin did a Jedi-Mind-Trick on the Naboo Holyman after he performed the wedding, saying that "nobody is to know about this marriage and/or wedding ceremony".

Ontop of that, Padme and Anakin didn't even give their real names. They gave them false names, which they obtained from a Naboo Legend that Padme knew about.

(Read the Star Wars Databank and read this link also: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Wedding_of_Anakin_Skywalker_and_Padm%C3%A9_Amidala . information about Anakin and Padme's wedding appears in the Star Wars Databank, like I said, but the link I gave you has more complete information)

By the way, you might want to read this too: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Maxiron_Agolerga (that's the Naboo Holyman who married Padme and Anakin, and in that article it also explains alot about how he performed the wedding and what happened after it)

My information comes from the ROTS novel, which was line-edited by Lucas. If other EU has overlooked this, I think that other EU should be disregarded.

    Please.

You do realize that would render the marriage invalid, don't you?

That's what I'm starting to think.

I also notice that part of the emotional reason why Anakin desperately wanted to find a way to save Padme FROM death, was because she was carrying his yet-unborn "child" (they didn't know it was twins they were having), and, (well obviously), he wanted to see his baby born...

I mean you can even see him when he's like "our baby, is a blessing...."

no it wouldn't. the Naboo Holyman still had the authority to perform legal marriages, even if people had forgotten that they had the ability to do that still.

as it does with everything, it eventually became "customary" to get married "through the government", whereas this method was done in years past / eons past.

Padme just never forgot that guy still had that ability.

and considering how it was "wrong" for a Jedi to be married (with how the Jedi Code was written during that time, she and Anakin had to take every opportunity of secrecy that they could)

So, Wookiepedia noticed the reference in the ROTS novel, but apparently missed the context - Stover's explanation that Palpatine's obvious ties to Naboo were the source of his knowledge about the wedding. Whatever. Wookiepedia is, after all, simply Wookiepedia, and nothing more.

Vader had more than twenty years time to come to terms with Padmes death. He has accepted the cold hard truth as much as he expects others to do the same (Luke). He isn't a person of sentimentality, he's a person who's always looking to the future. I don't think he still loves her or cares about her fate.
You people are overly romantic and want him to show this soft side. :p

Padme only has one effect on him. She reminds him constantly how untrustworthy people are and that betrayal lurks at every corner, as in his pov she and Kenobi betrayed him. Vader has certainly drawn his conclusions out of this...

Now, he'd still get angry at Luke because the statement would be a blatant attempt to manipulate him. He'd stare at Luke, breathing and then might say something along the lines "She deserved her death. As will you if you continue to tread this path." in a menacing voice.

That said, I'd just love to read a love story about Vader and some other girl. That would be totally awesome. [face_laugh]
