What's up with Chewie's fur/hair in ROTJ?

In the first two SW films, Chewie's fur on the top of his head was short and slicked back. But in ROTJ, it's long and hangs down over his face. What's the deal here?

Chewie had to get a really different haircut in order to pose as the bounty hunter Snoova while infiltrating Coruscant:

In ROTJ, his hair had grown out a bit, which is why it looks so different.

Very interesting. That would explain the answer to my question, but this is an EU thing though, right? I mean, it can't be canon. The real reason would likely be that GL just changed him up a bit.

In addition, he had to look like he had put up a bit of a battle with Boushh, so he couldn't go in with his hair combed perfectly.

    This is true.

It's good to know we can always rely on Bib Fortuna, Twi'lek for these little known facts.

He was moving with the times man!

A trendy hair do was all he really could do, he wears very little in the way of clothing.

I think he looks brilliant in ROTJ

    Mon the Chewie!!

It was a living tribute to his fallen friend, Han Solo and his middle-parting ways.

Ah yes...I remember wanting that sought after middle shed.

But I seriously think Chewie just never bothered grooming it the way he did for the previous films.

Question is: Are we to assume that in EpIII his hair will be of a similar style as it was in ANH?

Not necessarily. Twenty years is a long time.

Let's not talk about Chewie in Episode 3, shall we? :)

I've seen Chewie on the Hyperspace Webcam and his hair looks exactly the same as it looked in ANH.

    It is canon.

Why is it canon? Isn't it in SOTE? That would make it EU.

Everything in the EU is canon, except Infinities.
