If there's already a thread for this, please show me where to go.
But for Halloween and other Star Wars related things, I'd like to be Qui-Gon. I can get the robe made, I just need to find a tunic. Does anyone know a good pattern or a good online place to get a realistic one?
I don't have alot of money, so maybe around/under $40-$60???
    Thanks and God bless!

The pattern for the tunic is very similar to a common bathrobe pattern. If you or someone else can sew the tunic, just pick up a bathrobe pattern ($7-$14 or so...maybe less). The modifications would be making it the proper length, and perhaps lengthening and/or widening the sleeves.

For the fabric, go with something like crinkle cotton (cotton gauze), "linen look" cotton/poly blend... I usually just look for what's on sale, what's cheap, and pay particular attention to the weave: look for stuff with nice texture (visible weave).

I did my lighter tunic from crinkle cotton...it was on sale for $1/yard. VERY cheap...

For Qui Gon (of course i can't sew), I'd use a Karate uniform shirt, thin material brown sweatpants, and I'd make the tabbard from an oversized t-shirt, preferably light tan or off-white. On the t-shirt, simply cut the v-neck out, the sleeves off, and the sides off. Then, cut a line straight down the front. Hopefully, that would meet your budget, look decent (h*lluv alot better than Rubie's), and be quick and easy. The real challenge is finding boots and a belt to go with the costume. Then, if you go all out, making or buying a saber can be either painstaking or expensive. Try keeping an eye out on eBay for sabers or robes, if you need one. Good luck, and don't get discouraged! ;)

I used Simplicity pattern #8311. I made both the inner and outer tunic w/ one slightly smaller than the other, so it'd fit underneath.

I used muslin, which is light enough to layer, and it's cheap - about $1.50 a yd when I bought it.

If you're using layers, i.e. tabbards, 2 tunics, obi, etc...then it's great. I wore mine around for three days at CII and it wasn't too hot.

Yeah, I went to Wal-mart today with my aunt and I got a pattern! Tell me if y'all think this pattern would be good.
type 5840 and then click on the picture! :D
It's the tunic looking thing and one of the robes (we're going to alter it and use different material of course :D )
    Thanks for all the help!
And I don't know what kind of material to use for the tunic!
What are some good materials for robes again?
    Thanks for everything y'all!
    God bless!

Yes, I have that pattern and it has it's problems. Bought it for 99 cents today to use in my Jedi costuming class at Cons as an example of how to modify a pattern.

The first issue is whether you are making Jedi garb to wear at Star Wars events and conventions or whether you're making a halloween costume.

If the former, then I think there are better patterns than this one. This one has it's problems: First is the dickey/fake under-tunic thing. Now, if all you want is a halloween costume, than this is just fine...cooler, less fabric, but not accurate.

But they couldn't make it correct or they'd be in trouble with George.

The over tunic pattern is the least problematic. Actually, now that I look at the pattern pieces, I don't like it either. One side of the tunic is straight and the other side is cut wide enough to cross over. I think they should be symetrical.

If you want clothes then the undertunic should be a modified version of the overtunic. It is shorter and the sleeves are longer and tighter....they should be tight enough and long enough to ruck (bunch) up around your wrists.

Use the tabard pattern but alter it to make them two separate, and longer, pieces.

The robe has problems, too: not the least of which is that it's two pieces. The hood is too small and it should attach to the robe body. The sleeves aren't big enough either.

I recommend McCall's 2940 for the tunic. Or the Simplicity one mentioned in a post above. I have used them both.

I recommend using the method on Amber's site (URL in my post above) to modify a standard cloak pattern. The design is by WilliQueen. Use her measurements for the hood.

If that's too difficult, I think it would be easier to modify a halloween wizard's robe pattern than to try to modify the one in Simplicity 5840. The modification needed to wizard's robe is to make the sleeves and hood larger.

If you haven't bought the fabric yet, Phoenix textiles has lots of linen and linen/cotton blends for a reasonable price. I only use linen for my Jedi tunics.
